This in my opinion was and always will be the greatest live solo ever recorded, and you did a FANTASTIC job on it. I love watching this video, props to you!
Very sweet! Clapton's playing on Crossroads was a major reason why I wanted to learn to play guitar. You've captured everything that makes this one of the great rock solos!
ive only been playing guitar a few years but this is defs the most memorable solo from clapton for me and is definately something i aspire to playing! did you learn this all by ear?
Thanks, maloy2222. This is one of those that I learned from the tab YEARS ago. But when it came time to relearn it, I used what I remembered and my ears. I'm thankful you like it, and I really appreciate the message.
When you learn these or practice them, what do you use as backing tracks. The actual recording, or do they sell backing tracks without the solo in them?
I've listened to this over 100 times. Just can't get enough of this. Everyone should have a nice breakfast then listen to this video to Start the new Day!! Love your very clear bending "virbrato" It's really hard to follow the chord progression from 0:17 thru 0:19 What notes are you playing for those 2 seconds? That would really help me alot.
Maybe you could do a slow version of those 2 seconds. At the 0:18 mark, you look like you were "strumming" several notes at once, and NOT single notes.
Hey Man, I'm so sorry I missed this comment. I apologize for not answering your question. . .I just never got this message in my inbox.
Basically what I'm doing there is barring the 3rd, 4th, and later 5th strings at the 17th fret with my index finger. Then I'm alternating notes with my ring finger on the 19th fret on the fourth string and later 5th string. You're right, I am sort of raking the strings with an "up-up-down" pattern between those double and triple stops. Hope that helps!
Absolutely Fabulous !!! That's a nice guitar where you can "dig into" the string, and really stretch those strings when bending. Just wondering if the fretboard is concave or not. If the fretboards was flat , it would be hard to really pull up on the strings for bending.
Good job on this one - you play it really well. This is my favourite solo of all time and I've been trying to perfect it for years - not quite there yet but getting close!!
Yeah, Clapton's vibrato in his early years was just stunning. I've been trying to nail the 'hand off the neck' vibrato technique for ages and I still can't quite get it.
That is awesome - very accurate cover. How long have you been playing and how long did it take you to learn that solo? Some parts are just so hard to learn! lol
Thank you! I've been playing 16 years, but I learned this solo probably 10-12 years ago or so. It's one of those things that I learned, played for a while, then forgot. And over the years, I'd re-learn it every once in a while, then repeat that process again. I figured when I re-learned it this last time, that I should go ahead and record it before I forgot it again!
Great job! I am using you video to learn...What kind of guitar? I am using a PRS SE and the neck is so thick near these frets it is very difficult. Also what string gauge do you use. Thanks! Amazing rendition!
I was scrolling down after the last vid and came to this one. 5 stars !!! kick ass tone and playing ! you nailed that live version dude ! The QR simply kicks ass and I now have somne serious gas for this thing. by summers end it will be mine !!!
Awesome, rrguitar1. The Quick Rod can do anything, as far as I'm concerned. You will definitely be a happy man! One reason I do these videos is to show the versatility of the McNaught, the Quick Rod, and the Wagner pickups. Thanks so much for the comment, and best of luck to you with your Quick Rod!!!
Thanks, Bud! And I totally agree. . .the first solo in this song, while nicely melodic, is a veritable "set up" to the second solo, which is definitely more aggressive. Glad you picked up on that, and thanks for the comment!

Thank you for your reply. The "Sound" of your guitar is just perfect. This is the best copy of any solo on UTube. No doubt about it.

Thank you. The fretboard radius is 12 inches, so it's actually pretty flat.
The stainless steel frets really make things nice for bending.

Thanks, Man. You know, this solo is really actually tricky! All the bends and vibrato have to be just right. Clapton was really onto something!

Thank you very much. The guitar is a McNaught V5 tuned to standard, and the string gauges are 9-46 (GHS GBCL, "custom lights").
