  • nirvana-lithium

  • i really hope you make a lot of money for doing this or doing whatever you do.

  • So helium cannot have more than two electrons or else the electrons that are already there will neutralize the charge?

  • Off topic, can you make a video on how to graph inverse trig functions.

  • you are truly gifted. thank you so much!

  • I think it's cool that he knows Evanescence:)))

  • wow thanks i have been trying to get this for a week and you did it in 13 min.thank you any suggestions for a video on more basic concepts

  • the planet with a rocket booster; electron nucleus analogy, reminds me of invader zim piloting the planet mars....

  • Sal, Sal.. You are so Sal... you are the Salest and you are the Sal.

    You FUCKING ROCK SAL!!!!!!

  • woops... haha rock on man this is greeaatt!!!

  • This guy deserves a noble award in teaching!

  • For the last 30 years or so, scientists have been using femtosecond lasers to look at molecules and atoms. A femtosecond is one millionth of one billionth of a second, so it makes it 1,000 times slower than an attosecond. It is easy to track the movement of molecules and atoms when femtosecond lasers are used.

Scientists helped drive this technology forward by developing attosecond lasers, which are benefitting diverse studies in natural sciences including the study outlined here.

  • @khanacademy aren't the electrons in the smaller orbitals/ orbitals near the nucleus having more energy???

u said the exact opposite and i read it the other way round in many books!!! just asking!!! hope u can help me!!!

  • omg, be my ap chem teacher

  • @threeeyedninja What does AP mean?

  • @JakeJohnRogers it stands for advanced placement. pretty much an introductory college level course that you can get college credit in if you do well on the AP test in may

  • @threeeyedninja Okay thanks, heh, only 14 here. I guess I don't have to worry about stuff like that for a long time.

  • @JakeJohnRogers well AP is for high school students. I took an ap class when I was a sophomore and im in 4 this year so youll be in them soon enough

  • You should get your own TV channel. You are so good at what you do!

  • "Lithium" by Nirvana > "Lithium" by Evanescence even though I've never heard it

  • @grands1am WTF is Evanescence?

  • @Maafa1619 ?

  • i have to watch this for homework and already know it. so boring.

  • I'm not sure if this was said or not yet, but I don't believe Mr. Khan (?) is correct in saying that the 1s orbital density is greatest near the nucleus. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember learning that that orbital is spherical (as the video says), but that if one were to take a cross-section of it, the density would peak at a certain radius around the nucleus.

  • ok just to get things straight, are orbitals the same thing as energy shells or levels?

  • Im still a biwt confused about the 1s1 part. Have a test on that tomorrow.

  • i love you. thank you. sooooo much!!! for 2 weeks we've been "learning" this but my teacher doesnt teach it very well!!!!! again THANK YOU

  • cuz of u im passing chemistry.. THANK U

  • I have to watch this for honors chem

  • Oh that's the uncertainty principal! It certainly was a fundamental uncertainty principal to me. I swear. That whole idea makes me go mad sometimes. Sometimes, randomness is just there and unpredictable.

  • I'm a foreign student studding in a language i've learned for roughly 6 months,I never understand what is being taught in class but thanks to you and God who made me discover you,i do xtremly well in class.Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i thought you only taught maths. Silly me.

  • You ended this video at 1337 on purpose didn't you?

  • Yeah it's an Evanescence song, but it was Nirvana song before that :)

  • Thx to people like @iorixs is that I say F*CK RELIGION

    Damn fanatism

Thanks to god Im an atheist

  • @andrestorp

Want to share a baby sandwich?

  • mind = blown

  • I love you Khan.

  • Thanks Sal. I was always confused about the electron configuration stuff (1s1, 2s2, etc.) And now it makes sense.

  • I aced my exam cause of you. Thanks Khan!!!!!!

  • rocket boost!

  • ?????????????? love the digital etch-a-scetch

  • 12 teachers who watched this video envy sal!!

  • I love you

  • Your model of an electron like a planet or a rocket (after time 3:00) is rather confused. I've stopped translating this video.

  • My AP chem teacher made 12 accounts.

    Lol jk XD

  • Thank you so much for the benefit you are to many by making and posting these helpful videos

  • The graphics/drawings are horrible. His weak attempt to show the variation in probability (density) vried out for a good picture with shading to show the areas of highest probability.

  • 11 people are failure TEACHERS!! :D

  • heizenburg just said that you cant tell where and how fast its going at the same time

  • Nirvana Made an awesome song Called LITHIUM too :D !

  • Evanescence Lithium FTW! 11:25

  • Hey Sal! Studying for the MCAT. Your videos are helping me remember my sciences from 10 years ago! Thanks so much!

  • @chomie3

    Good luck!!!

  • This is so amazing! I'm going to share this with my class!

  • I think I need to marry you. You saved my behind on my last two exams. Or you can have my first born...ya, take my first born, gotta warn you though, hes kind of a pain. :)

  • lol 11:16 ... "Fascinating."

  • I love chemistry... (but not Speling) I want to be a chemist, i know most elements

  • what is this... is it a computer program...

  • unbelieveble

  • but noone has ever seen a planet revolve around a star because stars have never been resolved in a telescope to be anything more than a point of light. only on star trek do planets revolve around stars

  • @iorixs What about the earth?

  • @matthewdcross i kinda doubt that too

  • @iorixs ....are you really trying to correct this guy?? this is his JOB you know.

  • @iorixs ....are you really trying to correct this guy?? your the one who spelled "no one" wrong. This is his JOB.

  • @monkeyman134nickw ok "no one"

  • @iorixs

Do you know what a star is?

  • @CurlJerry65 no one really knows what a star is since no telescope has ever resolved anything more than a point of light and nobody has flown out there to verify that stars are spheres of hydrogen or whatever. no telescope has resolved a star to be a sphere. no one has seen surface features on a star, it is assumption and fraudulent science to assume that stars are suns. there is a lot of fraud and deception in the way "nature" is presented to us in the media and in schools.

  • Comment removed

  • @iorixs

Its called Spectroscopy. We can tell what an object's composition is by looking at its emission spectrum. Since stars match the sun, it is plausible that they are also "suns". Of course you have a point, the universe is so vast and we have yet to understand even a small part of it. It could be something else, but since they are so very much alike, they are most likely all stars

  • @Curl i doubt that the universe is vast. i have really come to suspect that the model of the universe as it is presented in modern science is a fraud. there are many absurd claims which bring it under suspicion. the earth has a molten iron core - why is there no heat radiating from the ground, in the coldness of space that heat would have dissipated long ago if the earth is really billions of years old. the moon causes tides, the earth's gravity cancels out the moon's at some point between them

  • @iorixs lol You put a smile on my face with that post of your about modern science being a fraud. The funny is though I kinda suspect somethings are frauds also. maybe not as much things as you do.lol but non the less I do like certain things like Moon tides I am Suspicious of.

  • @i if the moon is not responsible for causing tides then there is no cause and effect.it seems like the tides just happen without a cause and this is of course unacceptable to secular philosophy. the modern model of the size and structure of the universe and our place in it is conveyed only in scifi. science fiction - false perception. Science is an enterprise that builds and organizes knowledge/Fiction is any form of narrative which deals, in part or in whole, with events that are not factual

  • @iorixs

On 'why is there no heat from the ground' = Have you heard of geothermal heating or lava?

  • @StickyMusiq not enough heat. if the core of the earth is molten iron there would be a lot more heat radiating from the ground than the occasional hot spring. and if the earth was really billions of years old that heat would have all radiated out into space and there would be no molten iron core. modern "science" is a pack of lies for the most part

  • @iorixs

And planets don't revolve around stars, its actually the mass of the star that warps the space around it. making them appear to revolve around the sun, even though they've been going in a straight line. Well, thats what Einstein said anyway.

  • @iorixs What are you saying? what about the planets in OUR solar system you fucktard? we've observed all of them orbiting around the Sun.

  • @qriffiN i seriously doubt that that is true you gummy bear. i think copernicanism and darwinism is a major scam against humanity to bring it low under the humiliating domination of evil

  • @iorixs please fucking tell me you're kidding.

  • @qriffiN Never he cried, never shall it ye get me alive ye rotten hound of the burnie crew. no im not kidding. humanity has been radically bamboozled

  • @iorixs I can't see how heliocentrism or evolution is a "scam" because it's not like people are being swindled out of their money because of it. I also can't see how they're evil in any way, they're just conclusions based on observations that humanity has made and tested over time in effort to gain a better understanding of our world. If you think understanding our world is evil, then I honestly have no words for you. Go ahead and believe what you want, but don't meddle in others' affairs.

  • @ just assume that the bible is right and that God created the world 6000 yrs ago. that the sun orbits the earth etc and the universe is small and God is near. to manage to convince people that the there is no God and that we are just the consequence of random chance causes us to degenerate. life has little meaning, live for the moment, do what you want, there is no accountability, get yer yah yahs out and party. basically people allow themselves to be corrupted. this would be satan's work

  • @iorixs That's assuming that the bible is right and that God created the world 6000 years ago. None of the observations we've made in this world that we've tested and tested until we proved it right beyond a reasonable doubt actually support that claim. And why would a "God" care what we humans do? Why would that be his business?

  • @ whose observations? the people you take to be objective are deliberate liars. if the north american continent was 100s of millions of yrs old then the mississipi drainage basin should have been washed out to sea long ago. every year tons of sediment gets washed into the gulf of mexico but sedimentology is forced to conclude that this hasnt been happening for more than a few thousand yrs. "scientists" are for the most part liars and have an anti-theistic agenda - they serve evil

  • @TehTy3 God will punish those who delight in the suffering and humiliation of the innocent. there are many people who torment small children. they are thrilled by the power they have over innocent victims when they tie them to satanic altars and torture them. they imagine themselves to be highly superior with their conniving malice, their manipulative arrogance and greed. God will bring evil to justice and humiliate the arrogant. your attitude towards God is a direct consequence of atheist dogma

  • @iorixs I don't like to torture children, so I have no clue what the fuck you're talking about, but if you seriously believe that atheism promotes that type of thing, you honestly have no idea what it's about. I don't see a God anywhere, nor has he spoke to me ever and doesn't provide any explanation for any natural event better than science can prove. Also, you do realize drainage basins are restored by rainfall and snowmelt right? Learn some basic science before trying to disprove it.

  • @ if the "sphere of the stars" rotates above the earth once every 24 hrs and the sun orbits the earth etc then you would not be able to tell the difference b/w that model of the universe vs the one that is popularly promoted. if the world spins at 1018 miles per hour equatorial speed the atmosphere and oceans would be in turmoil. put a glass on the desk and the water just sits there perfectly quiet. to me it looks like the earth is not revolving at all. there are lots of other holes too

  • @iorixs So the Earth spins at 1080mph, but do you understand the concept of inertia? Once we accelerate to that speed, we no longer notice it. Just like in a car, you don't feel like you're moving until the car changes speed. That's why the oceans and atmosphere aren't in turmoil all the time. That's not a hole, that's just you either not knowing about a basic principle of science or just ignoring it so you can find "holes" in the theory.

  • @TehTyg13 but if you go around a corner you notice it. on a merry go round you notice it, there are other nutty claims too. like the earth has a molten iron core. why dont i feel any heat radiating from the ground and why didnt the earth cool down in the icy cold of space in 4 billion years so that there should be no heat. or this idea about 200 ton dinosaurs. a population of such creatures would ruin the country side. rocky mountains are millions of yrs old then why are they so jagged

  • @iorixs The earth doesn't have a molten iron core. It's solid iron. Also, if you were to dig down a couple hundred feet, you would feel heat radiating from the ground. That's what geothermal energy is, and they use it a lot of places to heat houses, though it's a bit expensive. Also, since when would heavy dinosaurs shape the earth? We have things like tanks, entire buildings built on the soil that are much heavier, why don't those ruin the countryside? And the Earth has cooled down, quite a bit

  • @Te no ecosystem would be able to support a breeding population of 200 ton dinos. they say the core of the earth is 9800 degrees F which is above the melting point(2300F) of iron yet there is no heat radiating from the ground in all directions. evolution is a similar hoax. the idea that a long series of random events can result in all living things and their intricate coexistence. i guess we are supposed to suspend our ability to think for ourselves and just do as we are told (surrender to evil)

  • @iorixs its not random, its change through adaptation out of necessity, we didn't randomly evolve we adapted and improved. and doing as we are told is religion

  • @Dem640 nonsense. there is no way that all living things and the properties of inanimate matter came together to create people, the food they eat and the ability they have to enjoy it

  • @iorixs But thats not what im saying happend. Of course people spawning from nothing is rediculos, but evolution from a single cell is far from rediculos

  • @Dem640 no one has ever witnessed this evolution from a single cell to a human being. it is speculation and not science. science is boiling water at 100C and observing and repeating it. evolutionary theory is meant to disrupt people's cogntive awareness of the divine by introducing them to a universe that has no creator and a life that has no meaning. this ensures that people will corrupt themselves with horror and obscenity and this is what has happened - they worship and commit evil

  • @iorixs no one has ever proved god either but we've seen adaptations in our existence of modern science so there is significant evidence. As well as finding many links between monkeys and man, I'm not saying its proved anything all I'm saying is that by researching this area we are closer to the answer then if we all just accepted religion as viable so listen now no one worships and corrupts except religious people. No one said life has no meaning, you have a life, the meaning is to live it.

  • @Dem640 many people testify to their experiences of God. this is the whole thread of the bible and the quran and other revelations that have come into the world, you dont have to take their word for it but should you accept the assertions of secular materialist doctrine presented as object knowledge or science? no one has witnessed life evolve but many people take it on faith. from my exp. this secular materialism is simply anti-theist rebellion. the forces of evil conspiring against God

  • @iorixs Thats retarded

  • @iorixs What you're noticing when the car goes around the bend is the acceleration, the change in speed and direction. The Earth's rotational speed is changing so slightly that we don't even notice it, fractions of a mile per hour.

  • @TehTyg13 on a merry go round you feel the effects of the rotation, you can see it in a glass of water yet the oceans show no such effect. the earth doesnt rotate, secular sciences are anti-theistic corruption which lead to the degradation of humanity and its enslavement to evil

  • Very instructional video! We’re using it as part of a free online course in Chemistry. This and other courses are still in development. We’re looking for interested learners to give us feedback - email freeonlinecourses2011 at gmail dot com for more information.

  • Hey sal!! Can you pretty please please do some videos on the Pauli exclusion principle, hunds law and converting units from wavelength to frequencies!!!!! It would be very much appreciated I've looked everywhere and I'm still so confused I always watch ur videos to get it right back to front and I really really would appreciate it since you make every concept so very easy!!!!! I hope you can do it soon it'll help me so much for first yr uni chem! Thank you all the way from Australia!!!!xxxxxxx

  • Ur kind of boring... no affence!!!! :-/ And u dont draw and write so neatly.

  • @jackiealex64 you mean offence

  • Im not sure if I like the video or not...ur kind of boring... no affence!!! :-/

  • WHY CANT YOU BE MY CHEMISTRY TEACHER!!?!?!?!?

  • 5.23 Why not an energy bubble? That expands or retracts based upon its energy?

  • You sir, are epic win. You make people feel smart again by explaining things is a way that they can actually understand. THANK YOU haha

  • OMG he listens to Evanescence. FWT!

  • Oh yea could you use darker colors on pictures that have a white background?

  • Thank you so much!

  • i love you

  • Y'know it's amazing that our brain fills in so much space.

  • You're my hero!!

  • What a fantastic video.

Im really struggling to understand the wierd shapes an the concept of it all.

so hoping these vids will help.

Your very easy to listen to, helps me understand.

I don't have a tutor to explain so trying to understand it all myself.

    Cheers!!

  • @missrachel84 good for you!!!!!!!!! :D

  • Pluck off. ha.

Anyway, this is amazing. Thank you Thank you Thank YOU

  • Your explanation of Hydrogen 1S is wrong. It is spherical. However it is in fact a shell which encloses a central nucleus. It is impossible for it to have highest density in the center. If it did then the electron should collapse into the nucleus! Just as 2S would be a shell around 1S, 1S is a shell around the nucleus which has a finite volume in space since even a single proton has a sizable mass and a measurable radii

  • @totallyfreeenergy is this true sal?

  • @totallyfreeenergy I too reacted similarily (I had to pause the video when he said it and check the comments).

Still this is an amazing channel recapping the collected high-school/lower collage study of chemistry (including physical chemistry).

  • kkkkkkkhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnnnn

  • Yeah these videos are something else, great work I am so happy I found these.

  • And Lithium is an Evanescence song :)

  • I have been looking for an on line video education for a wile, this is perfect.I am a home school student so your website is a perfect resource.Thank you so much.Aloha from Hawaii

  • thanx man.

  • This could have taken less than 2 minutes if you didn't explain everything 10 times.

  • @TirianB... nice comment (he/she said sarcastically)

  • Thank you so much for making these videos.

  • chemistry is a volatile subject.i really hate it

  • I'm actually cracking up here because after all these years of not really being able to see the big picture (not being a science major...), Sal has made it completely lucid. Rock star!!

  • @valzer84 I have a BS in Biochemistry and Sal elucidated it for me too

  • You sir win the internet.

  • Asian ladies for dating # lushfmlk.info #

  • Hello I love this video but I'm french speaking person there is a word I don't understand at

8:02 "plug off" what does it mean i'm not sure to understand it

  • @blackchat5500

He said "pluck off" which means "remove"

  • @MrJas1991 thanx a lot Mr Jas :)

  • hay kahn academy, just wanted you to know that my science teacher started playing your videos in class. nice job (:

  • come to union high school we need you!!!! p.s its nirvana

  • Comment removed

  • @Hyalgan10 i love how you dont mean anything you squirt-licker

  • @Hyalgan10 This is grade ten material - I studies this when I was in grade ten too... 2nd week. It is heavy stuff but still very learnable. :-)

  • This is really some pretty advanced material -- if it makes sense to you, thank your chem teacher -- without the foundation you learned from him/her, this would make no sense at all!

  • My chem lecturer looks like peter griffin. And my chem lecturer is a woman. Your videos are far less distracting (:

  • My Chemistry lecturer is so boring and trieeesss to be funny, it doesn't work. THIS however, makes chemistry interesting and EASY! :)

  • Orbitals!!!!!!!!! yay!

  • i like you ..

  • Lithium is used for depression. There are also hot springs with large amounts of lithium in them that will make people very euphoric after sitting in them for awhile. The more you know

  • hahaha this is kind of funny. But i really like the way of explaining it !

  • woah, I get it. You make chemistry an understandable and learnable language for me. thank you so much.

  • Bohr is boring.

  • meaning... by all that space in between the atom. if you could make them release their grip for a set period of time ... then maybe you could walk through a wall of rock that behaves like water :D

  • Suddenly walking though walls doesn't seem so stupid now :P
