All of you are right! It's an overheat problem. The only way to fix it is to remove the old dry thermal paste on the GPU & CPU and apply some new thermal paste so it won't overheat. search for some youtube videos on how to disassemble the ps3 & how to add thermal paste on the GPU & CPU. I didn't make a video how I did it and to show proof it works but it's the truth. Thumbs up if it worked for u and to show everyone else :)
I find how to fix this problem .I have remake the same method to repair ylod of Ps3 ( thermal gun , and thermal past ) except that i put less past thermal than before . And The PS3 IS ON . but i have a new problem now , my ps3 slim shut down after one or two minutes =(
@Kacem36100 in my experience yes, i cut out a thin piece of aluminium shim and put it between the gpu and heatsink. theres no harm in also putting a metal shim inbetween the gpu aswell
@philhalo66 thermal paste doesnt put downward pressure so problem wont go away, i used aluminium shims with ic diamond thermal paste, the shim is when put pressure down on the gpu
@philhalo66 mate i feflowed correctly twice followwing the advice of an electrical engineer, if you understand what YLOD is then you would realise that the solder joints will never be as strong as they were previously, yes reflow worked, but only for 2 weeks ps3 only died on me when i left it on for 6hours straight, with shims, no problems at all
@OM3ALE Dude. It's a risk free thing.I did spam it on another vide similar to this just to help out the people having this problem. It don't cost a thing...noob
this can also be from not enough pressure onto the cpu or gpu from the heatsinks using a shim between the proccesor and heatsink will give it that extra push down pressure it needs and your problem will be solved just make sure u use something that will let the heat travel through it to the heatsink above
So looks like Im not the only one with this problem lol.. IDK about any of you but mine does the whole matrix screen too but thats when I get it turned on. Most the time I turn it on and it runs but it acts as if I dont have it hooked up to my TV. So after I let it sit for days an try it agin its starts up fine I start playing a game thats when fate takes over lol. I say this cause it will ether run for 10mins or less and the matrix screen happens or goes blk or I play for an hour.
this can be repaireed real easy with a properly done reflow with a heatgun and some no clean flux only working on the cpu n gpu mine works a treat for years after doing this and giving it decent thermal paste al in all my repair cost £5 and 20 mins of my time lol so worth doing hope this helps anyone who's looking cheers edd
@flamethrower510 But it doesn't seem to be the same kind of problem... And according to my research around 56% of all 360's produced had the RROD defect which is caused by a bad encapsulation of the main hardwares... Certainly a much more dangerous defect.. No doubt why Microsoft launched many different versions of the 360 mobo.
My PS3 did this last May. I just sold it the other day for $50 bucks on craigslist. I was tired of looking at it just sitting there not being able to use it. So I got rid of it. I'd rather buy a new 160 gig slim for $299 than to spend $190 to repair a 3 year old problematic PS3.
only just happened a day ago wit me, i turned it on 5 mins ago it worked, i then spawn in cod with an m16, fire a burst it glitchs, i crash it turn it back on and the screen has gone fuzzy!!??
i have a different problem, when i play OBLIVION or FALLOUT it freezes ALOT. usually when my fan starts going really fast(which doesnt take long btw). sometimes i get these weird graphic glitches like lines that go into the sky or i get rectangular black spots in the game, when i shut off and re-load its all good, but minutes later it happens again
mine did that but it gave me a black screen , wont read hdmi, or connect with my dualshock 3, but it turns on though, O.. and it not a reflow problem either, i've cooked mine about 14 times already, this is sumthing different , ANYONE know any ideas ? other than buying a slim,
this happend to me to i just called sony and tehy said that i just have to bring it to them to fix it it will coast $150 to fix im just going to buy a new 1 instead
your system has been getting hot, this is a symtom of that and will probably need reflow, same thing happen to me and had to reflow it and now its working fine
Ok, this happened to me too and no one seems to have an answer for what is causing this or more importantly what you have to do to fix it. If you did fix the problem please share what you did. Thanks.
ok the reason why this happens is cuz the GPU or CPU has detached its self from the motherboard it is a common problem that is growing between the older model PS3s it can be fixed in 2 ways "Reflowing" which is more of a temp fix and "Reballing" which is more permanent yet not definite look thru my channel and my favorites for reballing and reflowing videos they can help if u want to take that rout or just send ur PS3 to sony and theyll fix it for 150$+
and from what ive been seeing online sony only reflows the system but idk if thats entirely true i mean its sony why would they only temp fix a problem?....
In New Zealand I sent my PS3 to Fixtronics in Auckland. They fixed it the first time, cost me around $350 NZ, So 5 months down the track the screen freezes, lines and colours pop up, my consoles fans run faster, and shes pushing out alot of heat!! So I rang Fixtronics they handed me off to Playstation Customer Care, and they say to me that because I payed like $350 NZ for repairs the consoles still under New Warrenty!! So they gave me a Ref Number and I sent my PS3 back to get fixed for free.
hey dude your ps3 gpu must be repair by a process call reballing try to find someone that gives that service and your ps3 will work again with a better performance mi ps3 had the same problem and my uncle fix it with a reballing machine the proces just consist in exchange the weld for another lead solder which give better conductivity and durability to you gpu and cpu hope my comment works regards
Put thermal paste on the CPU that should prevent anymore white fuzzy screens

It's definitely overheated and\or broken video card part of PS3 showing out on your screen.
If you don't know how to clean the "insides" of the PS3,please go to nearest service center, they should help :3
