what kind of problems can a new hard drive fix? i think my friends computer got a virus from a thumb drive, the computer doesnt turn on anymore the screen just comes up blank and nothing happens. would a new hard drive fix that? please help??
No. You need to find out the exact reason why the computer won't boot, then go from there. You would need to re-install Windows if you don't care about losing all your data.
by any chance do u know the replacement part number for the HD? I have acquired the same laptop - hard drive. The comp looks good though. Still has protective films on. I would really appreciate someone telling this info.
That was so easy I could just cry. I've got an HP DV5t and the hard drive's no longer recognized when it boots up. It was making funny noises but I managed to copy everything off of it before it died.
Indeed. I've been using Western Digital brand HDD's...and I copy and delete loads of data to them daily...and no failures. I trust Western Digital. Yes, also why I love HP Pavilions so much..hard drive, and memory chips are a cinch to gain access to. Any other laptop, you have to dismantle 90% of it to even get to the memory. lol
Why do the batteries look different? I ask because I suspect someone switched my hard drive with another. The second one you install looks like mine I have in it now and it does not work at all. Screen is black, and the buttons light up, fan runs, but nothing more than that.
Is it possible there's a BIOS limitation to hard disk size? I tried to replace my 160GB hard disk with a 500GB seagate 5400rpm one and it gives me a black screen upon boot, and after turning on/off about 5 to 10 times it boots normally. It works fine thereafter, but I would like to boot it instantly
Did you keep the little adaptor plug when you took the old HDD out? Just be carful with that 750GB...I've got a 500GB and it gets awfully hot after awhile. I could make some crappy smores just by sitting them on top of my computer...lol
Easy. You will need a 2.5" SATA Hard Drive to USB 2.0 Adapter Cable. (or whatever type your hard drive is. If you've got a Pavilion, it's most likely SATA)
(VERY important: Make sure the USB cable has 2 USB plugs one one end. You will need to plug the 2 USB plugs to both USB slots on your computer. A hard drive uses too much power to be running off just 1 usb cord, and that is why most of them don't work right. I've got one myself, and it works just fine.
hi can you tell me what kind of connector de hard drive uses i have a usb to ide to sata but none of this are the same do you know the name thank you
Dude, I cannot thank you so much.....i accidentally spilled water on my laptop and some of it went in my hard drive and i didn't figure out how to take it out. Thank you again! and i subbed for you to show my appreciation :)
Removed the hard drive out of the laptop is simple but how do you remove the metal tray that keeping the hard drive fit inside the laptop? There's 4 screws (2 on each side) on the tray attached through the hard drive. I have try to remove those screws but it seen to be screw in so tight that is impossible to remove.
Yes, there should be some screws that go through the left and right side of the tray, and into the drive. They were no trouble on mine. Try harder! ;-) You can use a small power drill if you have one, it will give some extra "oomph" to torque the screws out. Just be careful not to break your HDD, or you truly will be SCREWED. xD Good luck!
@SeberHusky Well, actually I just realize another issue on the SATA connector on my default HP HD is extended out so it could reach my Sata port on my laptop, most laptop HD I found SATA is not extended out or unless they extendable that I am not aware of. I almost purchase Seagate Momentus XT as upgrade of my old Fujitsu HD which I don't think is possible.
My hp pavilion fell apart the hinge broke the DVD was not reconised so sent it back for repair. They said it's not worth fixing but they sent the hardsrive back to me. My questin is will I have to buy the same computer to use this old hard drive or will any hp or other computer work on it
It should work on whatever computer you want, but you will have to see if you need some kind of adapter that plugs on to the end of the hard drive (if you want to put it inside the laptop).
OR, you can get a "USB 2.0 Hard Disk Drive Enclosure", and use the hard drive externally (outside the laptop).
EDIT: The one I replaced that is shown in this video, however, (with the black tape on it), was a 250 GB Western Digital Scorpio, that I pulled from my old dead dv6748us. I then bought the 500 GB drive as an upgrade.
ok, thanks - so I can replace the old hard drive with another hard drive (with same specifications) of any branch - preferably a cheaper one than the HP one :)
Yes. Any 2.5 inch SATA drive should work. Whatever disk size you want (100GB, 200, 450, 500, etc.). Make sure you save that little removable adaptor plug that was on your old hard drive, you will need it when you put the new hard drive in.
I was trying to buy one for me but i was confused about SATA and SATAII. does DV6000 support SATAII? May be it's a naive question*(%(%$%$__(**... Thanks.
I got 2 laptops of HP Pavilion ze2000 i know ehere the hard drive is and i wonder if i replace the hard drive on 1 pc and its the same hard drive ( looks like) i need to reinstall it then?
So you ae saying you have two laptops with the same hard drive, and you are wanting to know if a hard drive from laptop 1 will work in laptop 2? Correct?
Well, you would still have to reinstall your OS onto the hard drive you are putting in. Just because they look the same, does not mean they are the same on the inside. I tried doing this to my two Pavillions. It did not work, all I kept getting was the BlueScreen. So, to answer your question; yes, you would have to re-install your OS onto it.
@ogmonkey27 and..."Hard Disk 2" is your main hard drive I think. There is obviously no room in a laptop for two hard drives. That number on the end probably refers to a certain sector on it or something...
Also, the HP "Recovery" drive is just a separate section (or "partition") of your main hard drive.
That message means that failure of your hard disk is imminent. If you have any data you want off of there, copy it somewhere ASAP, then buy a replacement internal HDD. A new hard drive should probably fix it....
When you get a new hard drive, you will be looking for a 5200 RPM 2.5-inch SATA drive of any size you wish. Anything under 1 T(era)B(yte).

The HP Spare number is 462355-001. I just replaced mine as well. I, too, went with the Western Digital. $99 from newegg.com for the 320 gb. Not bad.

Not every Pavilion in the 6000 series is an exact clone. Mine is a 6235nr. My previous one was a 6748us.
I don't know what you could have done, other than maybe your motherboard crapped out.
Mine had those same symptoms when it died from overheating.
