Sesame Street - Cat and telephone

The look on the cat's face and his demeanour when he answers the phone - blasé and sounding bored. After the initial

chase when he has that look of "oh boy! A mouse!" Those pre-PC times were so simple and innocent. These days a cartoon like that wouldn't even make it past the censors - for whatever vague, stupid PC rationale they could come up with?!

Also, notice after he swallows it, that the initial ring isn't really muted - like it's still in his mouth...then it's muted, like it's suddenly in his stomach...then it's REALLY muted, like it's even farther down the digestive tract?

I wonder if that audio progression was deliberate, or just accidental?

A couple things that get me...

The phone comes out of a standard cartoon mouse hole, and deliberately wakes up the cat, then takes off. Why a mouse hole? What's the phone's motive? Just stirring s**t up...? And what's its method of propulsion??

The cat, okay, its predatory instincts are engaged by what appears to be fleeing prey. But the cat is smart enough to IDENTIFY it as a telephone, not a mouse...even answers it in proper fashion....and STILL eats it?

I think this was really good scince alot of 4 or 5 year old kids would say "telephone" just like that. These clips are made by doctors.

True, but I've never seen a cat eat a telephone. Don't know how it could even if it wanted to. Maybe if it unplugged the phone the poor cat wouldn't shake like that?

It is highly improbable that a cat could consume a telephone in one bite although it may be interesting to see the cat attempt the aforementioned feat.

Been waiting YEARS for this one! It really makes no sense at all, the telephone running around and the cat acting like it's a mouse, but that's what's so fun about it! My mother never thought it was funny, the cat swallowing the phone and then shaking like that, but that was the best part--it was IMPOSSIBLE!
