  • If you actually want to know the history -

The negotiations failed when Levesque and Trudeau got into a fight, and Trudeau threatened to hold a national referndum on the issue. Which Levesque agreed to. But CHretien would not support 'another' referendum in Quebec which he felt would break-apart the country. SO he, with Romanow and McMurtry drew up an agreement they felt would be acceptable to all!

  • And now the separatists will complain because they don't know the history!

  • The only reason Chretien had to do a back-room deal was because Levesque "WALKED OUT" of the negotiations. Then Chretien, Romanow (and co) had to come up with a deal that would be acceptable to all, or leave our Constitution in London. Levesque wasn't there to be consulted, he had already returned to QC. S. 33 was put in the Constitution specifically as a concession to Quebec!

  • People need to remember the 'Night of the Long Knives'.

Truedau and Chretien betrayed Quebec that night, and in the process all of Canada.

We are still living with the consequences today in the form of serial minority governments courtesy of the separatist Bloc.

  • @liberty4canada If Quebec wanted to be part of the agreement, they shouldn't have walked out of the negotiations.

  • @Kingphilosophy Quebec didn't walk out of negotiations, they weren't invited. There was an agreement in principle, but then Chretien invited the 9 other premiers to a secret meeting in the middle of the night in the kitchen of a Montreal Hotel. Hence "Night of the Long Knives" and the "Kitchen Accord". This is the reason Quebec has never signed the constitution.
