im creating teams now on NHL 12 ; theres a lot of useless features like creating your "home and away" goalie gear... the logos dont match the team names and i cant pick what city i want my team to be based from; only pre set cities .. this needs a lot of improvement . NHL13 better not disappoint.
I wish they had college teams in the NHL games especially because they have all the europe teams so why not college? You did a great job on the logos and making the jerseys, if someone from EA saw this man they would (or should) give you a call to help. Great job.

Jonathan Toews was the cover athlete for NHL 11 and is the player model when in the Create-a-Team mode. Regardless of what jersey design you're making, the rotating player model is always Toews. There's no way to change this. I did put him on my North Dakota created team...
EA should hire you to work on the NCAA department for nhl 13 haha, you did a really good job on every team. Watching this makes me wanna make them all and create the players and start a season but I'm too lazy to do all that lol, how long did it take you to make all these?
Thanks for the kind words. I wish EA would contact me, I'd gladly take the job for free. Anyways, each team took about 45 minutes to create (15 minutes doing the jerseys, logos, city name, etc and 30 minutes doing the rosters).
I didn't buy NHL 12 because they didn't do anything new in the Create-a-Team department and didn't improve the game enough to warrant me spending another $60. I'm still using NHL 11 but will probably do the NCAA teams again next year.
Sorry, all I have is the video. I suppose you could pause the video at each team and then do a print screen (?) to save the images to your CPU.
BTW, the way I did the jerseys for teams was to go to Google Images and simply type in searches like "Vermont Catamounts hockey jersey" and I'd get exact jersey designs that I could attempt to replicate at close as possible to real life. Because of the limited logo designs in the game's create-a-team mode, I couldn't match every team...
I like the unies nice job I've created some of my own but they look almost exactly the same. Idk if this is a feature on NHL 11 but there is the option to customize a player on the rosters and for the hel mets they have ones with a caged facemask so I have all my college teams with those helmets.
I was limited to 30 teams created. Otherwise I would have added Air Force. Problem with creating Air Force is they just don't have enough alumni in the NHL or AHL yet as their program hasn't been around long enough. Same for RIT.
I think the Vancouver canucks logo would work better for the Nanooks but still awesome job! Love the Fighting Sioux unis, reminds me of the old school jerseys.
Wish I could have used Jeff Lerg as backup goalie for MSU but he's not in the game since he's in the ECHL. I just used a generic goalie from the Canadian juniors as my backup, as Ryan Miller was the only former Spartan to be in the game.
As for your other question, the PS3 version of the game doesn't have any kind of roster sharing options, either online or offline. Sony has really cracked down on file sharing since the hacking incidents earlier this year. It sucks!
this is really cool and i would like to see college teams in the game or just a college hockey game completely cause some of the arenas in college hockey are extremely special and there are some intense rivalries like; UM-MSU, Minny-Madtown, and BU-BC. I thik it would be fun and give a new feel for the EA NHL franchise..............and GO BLUE!!!!!!!!!!!
i think adding a teambuilder feature like ncaa12 and roster sharing would be sweet...i made my highschool football team in ncaa12 and if nhl made teambuilder...i could make my hs hockey team to..that would be kick ass
Respectfully disagree. Adding the Canadian Hockey League didn't ruin the game. Having the AHL hasn't ruined the game. And having all of the European Elite Leagues hasn't ruined the game. The NCAA style of hockey is very similar to the Canadian Junior Leagues. They have already added those players and teams. Adding the NCAA teams would only add another "pipeline" to the NHL.
The bottomline is more sales and more money for EA Sports. Adding NCAA Hockey could only help...
@john1842msu I agree! I've been wanting this for a while! If you can start in the CHL, why not start in college? Zach Parise and a boatload of other players did! The NCAA won't allow player licensing, but the names of players could be added manually (like with the football and basketball games), and it would be easier because we are talking what, maybe 64 teams (as compared to 120 in football)?

Yeah, Miami of Ohio's jersey was tough to do. There's no way in NHL 11 to get an 'M' in there, so I had to settle for a "Hawk(?)" I've been trying to get as many people as possible to encourage EA Sports to give us the option of BLOCK LETTERING as a logo choice next year. If they did that, most of these jerseys would have been that much better.

Agreed 100% (except for being a U-M fan). What they should do for cities is give us a choice of all 50 states, the 50 state capitals, all Canadian provinces and capitals, and then also list the 100 largest cities in North America, i.e. Miami, Denver, San Francisco, etc. Also do it for Europe (Paris, London, Rome).
Then they need to go out of their way to make sure to list each and every nickname that comes to mind. Lions, Tigers, and Bears, oh my! GIVE US MORE CHOICES, EA!
I've been saying for awhile now that for NHL 12, they need to give us the option of all 50 states, the 50 state capitals, and the 200-250 most populated North American cities...
For nicknames, they need to dig deep and give us about 500 more common nicknames (i.e. Cowboys, Lions, Bears, etc).
Finally, for logos, how cool would it be to have the option of adding BLOCK LETTERING for a logo?
Since EA Sports doesn't allow us to type in our own names, I had to go with the closest match I could find in the city list and also for the nickname list. I ended up choosing "Portland Grizzlies" for the Maine BlackBears. In my wishlist for next year, I included the hope that the game producers give us for city/state names and also many more nickname choices. Ideally, they'd simply let us type in our own team names :)
@john1842msu I wish they would remove the creat a team from the game, and just make it possible to download a team you create on the Internet. Just like in NCAA Football 11 and FIFA 11.

nice work bro but my questin to you is well see me and my buddie tried making the CHL (Central Hockey Leauge) on nhl 11 for the 360 and after we made 8 teams it stoped adding our created players to free agency so we could make anymore teams and advise here? thanks
I didn't create any CAPs for my rosters. All players I added to the created NCAA teams were already in the game. I used the alumni players of each NCAA school to fill in the rosters. There is a limit of 30 teams you can create, and I know there's a limit to the number of created players you can add too. Apparently you reached that limit!

I agree w/ the need for better logos, block lettering, and alternate jerseys. It would be nice if you could create jerseys for Be A GM Mode too. Different jersey designs would be nice too, I don't like the Reebok designs.
You've got to edit the UAF Nanooks out and put in the UAA Seawolves, better team, more unique unis.

I hope you're right about college hockey being in NHL 12 (for sure...) but I'm not 100% confident. I know EA Sports wants to do it but the NCAA has a reputation for being pretty greedy. I'm worried that the NCAA would kill the deal by asking for 50% of profits or something ridiculous like that. My expectations for the implementation of the NCAA teams is tempered by the reality that it would be tough to fit in with the other pro leagues.
@john1842msu I gotta agree with you on that. We(the fans) have been trying for years to get the NCAA more involved. But now since the Frozen Four is getting more publicity the past two years, It might be a good idea for them to join in with EA sports.
Another thing that EA should add for NHL12, It'd be great to see block lettering and/or the ability to post script letters on the jersey fronts. Uploading logos from the internet would be a great addition, also.
Good idea and that would be fantastic if they did that. But... there would always be people who abused that privilege and uploaded inappropriate images from the internet. Maybe if EA Sports allowed us to upload images/logos from the internet for offline play only...

Every thing you said in this video is so true! Creating teams is my favorite part of the game and I think if they expanded it that it would be a lot more fun.
The logos you see in the video are all included in the game as part of the Create-a-Team feature. Some are NHL logos and some are minor league hockey, CHL, or Euro League logos. I am trying to encourage EA Sports to add even more logos next year, as well as the option to use BLOCK LETTERING as a logo option.
Awesome job on the jerseys! It's a shame Clarkson's real logo isn't there....because our knight is so much cooler than that! I definitely agree about block lettering- The away jersey do NOT have a logo on it! It needs the block "CLARKSON" across the front! I made them in my NHL11, but I used the Calgary C, because on the ~04-08 jerseys the logo was "CU"...Going along with that theme, home and away jerseys should be able to be different- different style, name font, and logo.
Thanks for the compliment! I'm glad you also posted the comment about being allowed different logo designs for home and away. My idea is that they should allow for an alternate 3rd jersey. This is the best way to get a block lettering logo included. Several teams use different logos for home and away, many of them with block lettering instead of an actual logo.
@john1842msu, this was two Arena Football League all star teams by the way; i'm going to do all star teams for AF2 later; but I guess the whole all star teams thing can work with any sport's game.
@john1842msu One thing i'm curious about; how did you do the cities on the college teams? The most recent game I have is NHL 08(for PS2; I would get NHL 11 except for one thing: they don't make it for PS2 :(
Anywho, on the NHL 08 game they have a list of cities you can choose from in Create A Team, so the possibilities for teams to create are pretty limited.
It's the same with NHL 11 unfortunately. I just had to name my teams with the closest thing available. Some of them work out great. Minnesota is still Minnesota, Ohio State is Columbus, Wisconsin is Madison. But for others I had to be creative. I think for North Dakota I used North Bay, MSU is Grand Rapids, Michigan is Flint. Just use whatever city will help you remember which team is which I guess. Whether you base it on geography or what city's name sounds the closest...

@john1842msu Kind of on the same subject, but I just popped in my PS2 copy of Arena Football Road To Glory and created two all star teams to stage an All Star game; for the two teams cities I just did Philadelphia and Los Angeles and it worked pretty well, so I guess for the college teams it can work pretty well too.
Awesome! I have NHL 08 for PS2, so I might have to try this with my game; of course you could not only do this with NHL games, but you could concievably do it with Minor League and Junior teams in the NHL games as well.
Plus you could do this with minor league and college teams in any NFL, NBA and Major League Baseball game too; Arena Football and MLS, i'm not sure.
I've tried doing alumni rosters for Madden NFL. There's always a couple teams you can mostly fill out, but it's hard. The Team Builder is great, allows for some really great looking uniforms, but because there's so many NCAA football programs and only 32 NFL teams, it's hard to fill out a 53 man roster or whatever it is.
For my beloved MSU Spartans, I usually can fill out the starting 22 with actual former Spartans, but many of the remaining spots are not Spartans.
@john1842msu True; using some of the bench guys and lesser named players on NBA and NHL teams, and to a lesser extent NFL and Major League baseball teams you could create CFL, UFL, or USFL teams, or you could create NBDL, CBA, or other minor league basketball or hockey teams.

I don't know any way to get you formulas per say. I would just pause the video while you're making jerseys. Blowing it up to full screen would probably help too. I used jersey design #1 or 2 I think for almost all teams since it's the only one with a horizontal stripe across the bottom of the jersey. I don't know why they only have one design like that...
As for the color schemes, the custom color palette isn't all that great. I'd just save various colors from NHL teams...

I actually did consider using the Panthers or the other Wildcat logo for New Hampshire but since their jersey just has "UNH" scripted across the front, I decided on the old North Stars logo. Plus I had already used the "Panther/Wildcat" for Vermont & Northern Michigan. As for Notre Dame, I thought that the logo I chose sort of resembled the Fighting Leprechaun logo, so I went with that over the 'N'.

Yeah, Miami of Ohio's jersey was tough to do. There's no way in NHL 11 to get an 'M' in there, so I had to settle for a "Hawk(?)" I've been trying to get as many people as possible to encourage EA Sports to give us the option of BLOCK LETTERING as a logo choice next year. If they did that, most of these jerseys would have been that much better.
Everyone thumbs up this comment if you want more city choices, nickname choices, and logo options for the Create-a-Team in NHL 12...

They really should put the NCAA roster on NHL 12. If they do make it they should also put cities.I am a fan of the Michigan Wolverines and when making my team they dident have Michigan as a chose of were they are from. Any way nice good on the jerseys bro!!!

Agreed 100% (except for being a U-M fan). What they should do for cities is give us a choice of all 50 states, the 50 state capitals, all Canadian provinces and capitals, and then also list the 100 largest cities in North America, i.e. Miami, Denver, San Francisco, etc. Also do it for Europe (Paris, London, Rome).
Then they need to go out of their way to make sure to list each and every nickname that comes to mind. Lions, Tigers, and Bears, oh my! GIVE US MORE CHOICES, EA!

I've been saying for awhile now that for NHL 12, they need to give us the option of all 50 states, the 50 state capitals, and the 200-250 most populated North American cities...
For nicknames, they need to dig deep and give us about 500 more common nicknames (i.e. Cowboys, Lions, Bears, etc).
Finally, for logos, how cool would it be to have the option of adding BLOCK LETTERING for a logo?

Since EA Sports doesn't allow us to type in our own names, I had to go with the closest match I could find in the city list and also for the nickname list. I ended up choosing "Portland Grizzlies" for the Maine BlackBears. In my wishlist for next year, I included the hope that the game producers give us for city/state names and also many more nickname choices. Ideally, they'd simply let us type in our own team names :)

nice work bro but my questin to you is well see me and my buddie tried making the CHL (Central Hockey Leauge) on nhl 11 for the 360 and after we made 8 teams it stoped adding our created players to free agency so we could make anymore teams and advise here? thanks

I didn't create any CAPs for my rosters. All players I added to the created NCAA teams were already in the game. I used the alumni players of each NCAA school to fill in the rosters. There is a limit of 30 teams you can create, and I know there's a limit to the number of created players you can add too. Apparently you reached that limit!

Next year I'm planning on doing this again for NHL 12, under 2 conditions...
1) the real NCAA teams aren't included already (I'm praying they will be)
2) the developers add in an online roster sharing option (like NCAA Football) so that I can share my work with everyone.
If I do alumni rosters again next year, I'll take requests :)

@john1842msu Someone was saying the same thing for #2 with NHL legends teams they created, like the old North Stars, Jets, Whalers, etc. I hope they add college too though.
I agree w/ the need for better logos, block lettering, and alternate jerseys. It would be nice if you could create jerseys for Be A GM Mode too. Different jersey designs would be nice too, I don't like the Reebok designs.
You've got to edit the UAF Nanooks out and put in the UAA Seawolves, better team, more unique unis.

College hockey will be on NHL 12 for sure! there's a ton of fans out there, they just need to make a league and arenas, and let us play seasons with them in bap and stuff like that, great video man! thanks for adding the broncos! we came so close this year!

I hope you're right about college hockey being in NHL 12 (for sure...) but I'm not 100% confident. I know EA Sports wants to do it but the NCAA has a reputation for being pretty greedy. I'm worried that the NCAA would kill the deal by asking for 50% of profits or something ridiculous like that. My expectations for the implementation of the NCAA teams is tempered by the reality that it would be tough to fit in with the other pro leagues.
As for WMU, congrats on a great season!

@john1842msu I gotta agree with you on that. We(the fans) have been trying for years to get the NCAA more involved. But now since the Frozen Four is getting more publicity the past two years, It might be a good idea for them to join in with EA sports.
Another thing that EA should add for NHL12, It'd be great to see block lettering and/or the ability to post script letters on the jersey fronts. Uploading logos from the internet would be a great addition, also.

The logos you see in the video are all included in the game as part of the Create-a-Team feature. Some are NHL logos and some are minor league hockey, CHL, or Euro League logos. I am trying to encourage EA Sports to add even more logos next year, as well as the option to use BLOCK LETTERING as a logo option.

Awesome job on the jerseys! It's a shame Clarkson's real logo isn't there....because our knight is so much cooler than that! I definitely agree about block lettering- The away jersey do NOT have a logo on it! It needs the block "CLARKSON" across the front! I made them in my NHL11, but I used the Calgary C, because on the ~04-08 jerseys the logo was "CU"...Going along with that theme, home and away jerseys should be able to be different- different style, name font, and logo.

Thanks for the compliment! I'm glad you also posted the comment about being allowed different logo designs for home and away. My idea is that they should allow for an alternate 3rd jersey. This is the best way to get a block lettering logo included. Several teams use different logos for home and away, many of them with block lettering instead of an actual logo.

@john1842msu One thing i'm curious about; how did you do the cities on the college teams? The most recent game I have is NHL 08(for PS2; I would get NHL 11 except for one thing: they don't make it for PS2 :(
Anywho, on the NHL 08 game they have a list of cities you can choose from in Create A Team, so the possibilities for teams to create are pretty limited.

It's the same with NHL 11 unfortunately. I just had to name my teams with the closest thing available. Some of them work out great. Minnesota is still Minnesota, Ohio State is Columbus, Wisconsin is Madison. But for others I had to be creative. I think for North Dakota I used North Bay, MSU is Grand Rapids, Michigan is Flint. Just use whatever city will help you remember which team is which I guess. Whether you base it on geography or what city's name sounds the closest...

@john1842msu Makes sense; by the way, on the cities thing, it must be hard sometimes to figure out which cities can represent which teams if you have only a certain number of cities to pick from.
But I think it will work out pretty easy; I guess you could do the same things for minor league hockey teams too; by the way, how did you do the city names as far as team names go, I know you can do the cities for geography or whatever like Columbus for Ohio State, but how about the team names?

@john1842msu Kind of on the same subject, but I just popped in my PS2 copy of Arena Football Road To Glory and created two all star teams to stage an All Star game; for the two teams cities I just did Philadelphia and Los Angeles and it worked pretty well, so I guess for the college teams it can work pretty well too.

Awesome! I have NHL 08 for PS2, so I might have to try this with my game; of course you could not only do this with NHL games, but you could concievably do it with Minor League and Junior teams in the NHL games as well.
Plus you could do this with minor league and college teams in any NFL, NBA and Major League Baseball game too; Arena Football and MLS, i'm not sure.

I've tried doing alumni rosters for Madden NFL. There's always a couple teams you can mostly fill out, but it's hard. The Team Builder is great, allows for some really great looking uniforms, but because there's so many NCAA football programs and only 32 NFL teams, it's hard to fill out a 53 man roster or whatever it is.
For my beloved MSU Spartans, I usually can fill out the starting 22 with actual former Spartans, but many of the remaining spots are not Spartans.

@john1842msu True; using some of the bench guys and lesser named players on NBA and NHL teams, and to a lesser extent NFL and Major League baseball teams you could create CFL, UFL, or USFL teams, or you could create NBDL, CBA, or other minor league basketball or hockey teams.

I don't know any way to get you formulas per say. I would just pause the video while you're making jerseys. Blowing it up to full screen would probably help too. I used jersey design #1 or 2 I think for almost all teams since it's the only one with a horizontal stripe across the bottom of the jersey. I don't know why they only have one design like that...
As for the color schemes, the custom color palette isn't all that great. I'd just save various colors from NHL teams...

i also created my own college teams in NHL 11 but i just used alot of european league teams jerseys (FYI) one team i believe in the swedish league has jerseys like Stanford would if they had a hockey team lol

Also the Bu jerseys are easier with the alternates

I actually did consider using the Panthers or the other Wildcat logo for New Hampshire but since their jersey just has "UNH" scripted across the front, I decided on the old North Stars logo. Plus I had already used the "Panther/Wildcat" for Vermont & Northern Michigan. As for Notre Dame, I thought that the logo I chose sort of resembled the Fighting Leprechaun logo, so I went with that over the 'N'.

I went ahead and added the instructions for generating your own NCAA Hockey alumni rosters to the video's instructions.
There's no way for me to actually "share" the roster file with you guys because of Sony's crackdown on file sharing. Sorry about that. Hopefully EA Sports will add their own roster sharing feature to the online mode next year...
