I don't know if I prefer Clapton's pink suit in Knebworth or this association of purple and green. Even the guitar is in association with the suit. By the way, it's the only time I see EC play this green strat. Do you think he played it just to have it with the shirt ?
Anyway, even with this odd looking suit, EC stil got perfect class.
Great television show i used to record and watch after coming home from a gig...sadly it disappeared into television's mediocrity that is what it is today..luckily i have recordings of many of these shows
@seizetheday49 me too baby... me too... Thank God in heaven above, for these men and their willingness to share their talents with us, the unwashed masses...............
fuck me ive loveed robert cray all my life and he is my favorite guitarist but eric clapton kicked his ass at the end just to let him know whos the daddy very brilliant still love rob though eric clapton stop stealing the limelight we all know your a freak
@sqwalker13 yeah i know what you mean but overall cray played with sooooo much feeling and right on point, eric was just randomly hitting notes at light speed from 15-20 th fret or something. crays performance here is WAAAAY better in my eyes, i think eric should've let him play longer at the end and not interrupt him in the end because that solo of cray is probably the best and most creative solo I've heard in a long time
Thankyou so much for this post. I come to my computer and play this one everytime life gets wierd. And then it all starts to make sense....and then it gets wierd, and then .....
asif u'd even care that eric solo was only 30 seconds long, this is one of the greatest songs in all time robert cray does solo's in this song.... why would that ever cross you mind!??
This was an easy 25 years ago, 2 of the best their is.....Clapton has been a Cray fan for many years, a mentor early on, anyone who isn't moved by this music, is 1/2 dead
@secretmarksman that television show used to have the guests do little funny bits during commercial breaks..i used to watch it every week..they even had Miles Davis joke about his raspy voice during one of the breaks!!
hard to believe clapton used to lack confidence in his singing but OMG these two.............axemeisters extraordinaire and the likes of which not commonly seen.
These two guitar players and singers are really really good. I can hardly believe I'm going to see Clapton for the second time next year. Let's hope he will make it. At my first Clapton concert, I also saw Robert Cray...there were 70.000 people there...every one of them was singing along with "Right Next Door" incredible feeling...and when "Layla" came along...everybody was dancing. There is no such thing as an Eric Clapton concert. Well...maybe Pink Floyd could top that!
Yes but Clapton was at it before Jimi. Check out the interviews from the Cream live at the Royal Albert Hall film. There is a section when Eric is talking about the Wah Wah and he has a smoke down the headstock of his 'Fool' SG, about 3 years before Isle Of White...
Great guitar solos - but it touches me to see Don Alias on percussion in this clip. He appears on three albums of my dear friend Barbara Dennerlein and he went too early in 2006.
call me a dope but on this nite in the mid 80's, while going thru tv channels i ran across the late night show "Night Music" this particular show,& this is how i happened 2 learn about Eric, better late than never.
Its me, Steve from the gay site. Why are you avoiding me? I thought we had a nice night together. I was hoping to do it again, you were sooo tight. Anyway, Cray and Clapton are awesome together, just like you and I. Kisses.
Talk about two great artists and a great song. Unfortunately, I have never seen Clapton live, but I can tell you Robert Cray is one of the best, cleanest sounding shows you will ever see. Incredible and most always in a small venue where you can get as close as you want. I'm a white boy from chicago and he let me "discover" the blues. It is now and always will be my favorite style and I have been playing 13 years now.
cray has the best phrasing ever, always plays clean, always plays really creative solos. shame about erics haircut though.shocker. no wonder he cant ever get laid. er, hang on a minute..
For everyone saying that Clapton isn't doing anything difficult or isn't putting emotion into this song, I just want to point out that there has to be a main guitar, they can't both lead, and since Eric is singing and putting his feeling into that (which is friggin' hard to do playing blues and the timing on this song is funky) it just makes more sense to give Robert the creative lead on guitar. Clapton puts plenty of emotion into his solos, here just isn't the place.
@kwithawhat@everyone that you're talking to, this song doesn't have its soul in the lead; yes cray and clapton do let rip a few times and set the stage on fire, but the soul is in those opening chords
Eric Clapton is without a doubt a legend ,for what he did with cream ,but here he s just relying on guitar phrases and standard licks he s played before while robert is displaying the true blues spirit by letting the moment feed what is coming out of his amp Great ,well done.
well i'd say that most people would fall short if compared to cray on 'feel'. But while many of claptons more recent performances are stale, hes considered a legend for very good reason. Would half of us be guitarists today without him? Check the US crossroads benefit concert he did, and the version of old love there. nuts.Gets a deserved standing ovation halfway through the song (type in 'old love 1999'). Cray's a bit of a one off.... Hes very consistent in the emotion he puts into songs too.
the harmony between the souls, it is hard to find such good combination with same two instruments going hand to hand this well... Magnitude of sound...
Watching/listening to Clapton is like watching a brain surgeon operate. He has no soul, just cold perfection.Give me the heart and soul of Cray any day of the week.I have seen them both live many times too,so feel qualified to post my honest opinion.
definitely not. clapton is known for all the soul he puts into his solos. he has amazing feel for the music. well that is just my opinion, but i think it applies for many others.
