I think the number one problem with the economy is that we have forgotten how to be an industrial nation and have become traders. I just threw away an old tire and was amazed to notice it was made in Korea. We have millions of unemployed people that could be making things. If we can't make it here we should do without. The problem with economic computations/philosophies such as absolute and comparative advantage is that small things like free competition, full employment, etc are factors in who has what advantage. I think the number one problem with the economy is that we have forgotten how to be an industrial nation and have become traders. I just threw away an old tire and was amazed to notice it was made in Korea. We have millions of unemployed people that could be making things. If we can't make it here we should do without. The problem with economic computations/philosophies such as absolute and comparative advantage is that small things like free competition, full employment, etc are factors in who has what advantage. This is an employment issue and we can't employ Americans when the goods we use are made in China, Korea and other places whose primary interest is themselves. We need to get selfish ourselves and make it here. Its not a level playing field when countries that subsidize production are in the mix.
