I wouldn't say choppers are stupid, but to become a good chopper you need both good offensive and defensive skills. Sometimes chopping just suits a players style but still chopping has got it's flaws.
Beautiful! The off+ power of Schlager and the rich Korean history of defense++ from Joo-See Hyuk. It was amazing to see the outcome of this match. A come from behind victory for the Korean. Defense won out. However, you have to give Schlager credit for some unbelievable winners. What killed him? The unforced errors... You must realize that when someone chops against topspin loops it combines the spin every time. The spin levels of the ball are unsurpassed at these kinds of matches!!
@trocknorat Schlager is just getting old and outclass by most of the Top Players nowadays. After his injury years ago he wasn't able to get back in his prime when he was a WTTC champion. During his prime he has no problem with defensive players. Lets not forget that his teammate is a defensive player Chen Weixing.
@hello520111 Yeah, I know... Who cares that in 2003 they played each other in the final of WORLD TT Championship, right? Joo only beat Ma Lin on his way to the final, and Schlager beat Wang Liqin, no big deal. After all, what have THEY done to be at the top of YOUR list :)
People like Joo Se Hyuk and Werner Schlager, as well as anyone who ever played in this tournament, are great players. And it doesn't matter who won this time. Both of them have done enough winning in their time
at first Schlager really knows how to fight a chopper he knows where to hit the ball.. but sooner joo se hyuk knew that he`s counter attacks can beat schlager.. really nice
joo is a good player cuz he waits for the perfect moment to strike. he can also afford to do that since his defense is godly. choppers arent stupid.. whoever said that
Is it just me or did Joo not play as well as he normally does?? I watched a few of his other matches (esp. the one against Wang Liqin) and he seemed a lot more accurate/quick in those.
@RandomStuffLookAts Grass D.TecS et Tenergy 64 ??? U_u this gay is my hero !! I have a raquette twice slower than Joo and can't control the ball like him ... amazing!
If Schlager could just block a few of Joo's offensive attacks, he'd have pulled of a win very easily. Notice how Schlager only starte losing when Joo started attacking.
very disappointed to see Schlager lost this one. His physical conditioning and quickness were not there to help him beat Joo. HIs forehand "loop to loop" was not impressive. I guess the father of time is getting the best of him. Hats off to Joo Se Hyuk!
i'm pretty sure that if you were to play him, you would lose 11-0 in less than 5 minutes, be unable to return any of his serves, and certainly not be able to return his chops.
Just because you can beat choppers that are like ranked 1300 in the US doesn't mean the rest of the choppers in the world suck like them.
@AngelDevil444 Interesting... I wonder if he would even bother with chops against the likes of us. He does have a very proficient topspin loop after all.
@AngelDevil444 u don't compare joo se hyuk to attackers who can beat 1300 rated choppers. u compare him to the top ten in the world. the chinese can defeat joo in their sleep. how far has chopping got him against the strongest attackers in the world? the argument saying he would beat him 11-0 fails as well. is this saying that you can't criticize a restaurant's food if you can't cook it? no, you can eat somewhere else. and in this case, eating somewhere else is saying that chopping is stupid.
though a very good player, Schlager is funny to watch :) He searches something in the air above his incorrect serve..very serious face...he definitely needs to brake the ice...hahah
Looks like Schlager was either betrayed by his lack of conditioning or had a mental glitch. While he was playing a short-long game, while going right into the body, he was dominating. Then, it looks like Joo Se Hyuk either wore him down or he lost his concentration and started deviating from his game plan. Still, the first 2 games were textbook examples of dealing with a chopper, regardless of the final result.
@TRaTSeRiF totally agree..the first two games were amazing.. mid of third he seems to have lost his concentration a bit I guess as he was approaching a quick easy win.. but i have to admit that joo did an excellent job turning the match from 2-0 to 2-3.
@TRaTSeRiF not so. it was the course of the match that led to the outcome. joo was looking to move into more offensive attacks. in the beginning schlager was varying the weight and spin of his shots not because of the short-long. joo was starting to get adjust by chopping lighter spin and attacking more often. that's why schlager started going for heavier topspin. because schlager's technique is more oriented towards counter topspin, he started getting worn down by the backspin late match
Schlager has never been a very fast player, when joo began to attack , Schlager began to lose some points. Schlager has a great technique , but a lazy footjob.
Schlager was on FIRE!!! He decided to win right up from his serves, just amazing! His BH topspin was pretty powerful :D Its a shame he gave such and advantage in the last set, still 9-11 almost one of the greatest comebacks :P
besides his serves, which are a charm, he plays an extremely powerful forehand, which i haven't seen from him in a very long time. he always seemed to play rather controlled, but he's on fire here:)
apart from that, joo almost guarantees a very observer-friendly match.
Why does Joo play with a different technique and with lower consistency in the Asia vs Europe cups? Look at 2009 and now this year.. I can't work it out
Что ж ты Вернер слил так сет?! А как хорошо начал как в учебнике по защите...
