If you ever had surgery , when they put you to sleep in a hospital , you don't feel anything . Also, dont forget the Texas supreme court decision [1997(?)] in response to a prisoner suit for human rights infringement that "being raped and beaten (by other prisoners) is part of the punishment". As for pain as a deterrent, it doesnt work very well.

If people plan ahead, they think they'll get away with it; if not, they kill in the heat of passion. Either way, not much thought given to consequences. This is why it has been abolished. Do you think the people feel pain they kill if their being shot, if their being choked, if their being beaten or if their being stabbed to death... The answer is Yes... so why have pitty if their last moments are painful? ... @chewbacca1010 From what I understand lethal injection puts you to sleep first , then the other injections kill you . If you ever had surgery , when they put you to sleep in a hospital , you don't feel anything . I have no clue how the body reacts in surgery but when put to sleep for surgery , you feel absolutely nothing . Not the same with the electric chair . Legalize the electric chair in just one state and watch all the killer's or most go to the other state's that use lethal injection .

Capital punishment doesn't dissuade people from being criminals, and if you are really concerned for punishment, you'd prefer that hardcore criminals spend their days in a double max, where they sleep with one eye open and a shank under their pillow, for fear of being raped or killed.
Killing them, compared to that, seems almost humane.

That 10% may decide not to kill ( in a situation ) in fear of the pain of the electric chair .The double max thing sounds like a pretty good option but I never heard of double max .I read there's only light, medium and max .And do you really think there's a prison where you got to sleep with one eye open and a shank under the pillow , I mean , as long as you ain't got no shit going on with anyone ?

@1955woodsmin That idea is not new. The French had "Devil's island" the Portuguese "Tarrafal".For conditions of "devil's island" get the film "papilon" with D. hoffman and S. McQueen. Vaguely accurate. Also, dont forget the Texas supreme court decision [1997(?)] in response to a prisoner suit for human rights infringement that "being raped and beaten (by other prisoners) is part of the punishment". As for pain as a deterrent, it doesnt work very well.

@1955woodsmin And any death penalty doesn't dissuade people from committing crime because most people aren't thinking of the consequences at the time. Murder is either premeditated or not. If people plan ahead, they think they'll get away with it; if not, they kill in the heat of passion. Either way, not much thought given to consequences. This is why it has been abolished. It doesn't work as a deterrent.

And second, once they were caught they wouldn't be able to kill anyone because they would be in prison, you fucking idiot. Thus fulfilling the first half of that equation. Try using your brain for a change.

@1955woodsmin And I can only really speak for what I've read about Canadian prisons here, but it is generally accepted that in maximum security pens, a person is killed roughly each week, due to infighting and whatnot, so yeah, I'd day it is a pretty paranoid place. Sounds punishing to me.

I say we make prison like it was back in the old day. Whats the biggest reason most criminals commit a crime? Money!! and not having to earn it through hard work. There should be no tv, no a/c, no luxaries in prison. Make them farm for their own food. Make it a 12 hour heavy labor job, the one thing they were trying to avoid while free. Make freedom the easier life than the prison life. No reacreation time. Who gives a damn about their rights!!!

How would YOU feel if after the execution evidence was provided that proved their innocence? OK, I'm sure, because a guilty person was also put to death. But for anyone that commits a violent crime an eye for an eye might be a good way to stop those who kill or harm a child in any way if this was the case. I say yes to an eye for eye as punishment in certain crimes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think it would certainly detour any other ones who might think of doing the same crime not to do so if an eye for eye as punishment was enacted. God Bless All.

It won't bring back the victims, but it will insure they won't be able to kill again.
Many people convicted of murder have been released and considered rehabilitated, yet have gone on to kill again.. in 1964 Ed Kemper killed his grandmother "just to see what a dead person looked like" he then shot his grandfather.. he was released in 1969 and by 1972 he was on a killing spree and went on to kill 8 women...He is one of many released killers who go on to kill again.

So explain to me how you are so certain of this. Have you ever spoken to anyone who was knocked out (but survived) an accidental electrocution? I've known several. All of them said the same thing: An instantaneous "pow" for a split second and then blackout. The brain cannot withstand that kind of voltage, and the brain would have to function normally for it to interpret pain. A seizure does much the same thing except on an understandably far lesser scale. C'mon you know this.

It took over 8 minutes to kill this guy and he said, "It would have been easier if they used an ax." The method has been entirely disposed of throughout the US as "cruel and unusual punishment." They hit you with an initial high voltage burst to knock you out -- then they put you on full current to cook ya. You don't feel it tho. You're knocked out by the initial higher voltage zonk .. then they cook ya. You're too hot to touch initially. Takes about half an hour to cool off FYI. I'm surprised you don't see steam blasting out of their ear-canals. You'd probably witness this if they kept the juice on. Train whistle blasting out of your ears. Warden would need ear-protection.

She was a "victim" of electrocution??? What about her husband - was he not a victim too? The first blast of current would have rendered her unconscious in a fraction of a second; any movements thereafter would have been involuntary muscle-contraction which would not have known about, She had a far quicker and more painless death than he would have had.,,

I was electrocuted by accident and I swear that I never felt a thing.
I was standing there and then I was waking up...that's it.
I cannot remember any sensation of pain or discomfort.
I don't know how long I was out cold.
I never knew what hit me.
I fully recovered and never felt any after effects (except a slight headache).
