I loved and still do love this series a lot more, the series is way longer way more detailed and interesting than the movie, obviously pace is way slower, but despite the bright colors the animation is far superior to the movie, the characters become very easy to relate to with time and have great development, none of this in the movie.
consider it a remake, watch the entire thing, you'll like it.
Though I do appreciate the character designs being varied, I feel like the studio behind this is trying to make everything too cutesy and bright when the story is anything but either of those things. If I watched the entire season of this series, something tells me every episode would just be a water-down version of Watership Down.

To be honest, I remember watching this show and enjoying it. I just watched the movie a few days ago, and I think for small children, you should introduce them to the show first, and then as they grow more mature have them read the book/watch the movie. (Of course, maturity doesn't necessarily come with age.) Because I would think that the book would be too in depth for an immature child, and the movie could give them nightmares.

i think that this version is good as it is more suitable for kids and then when they are adults and know the story then they can watch the original which has a lot of blood and sad/scary scenes in it which may not be suitable for young kids........

Some things are different and it does dummy down the tale a bit, but It's a good way to introduce the younger kids to the book/movie. I think this is an okay idea.
The Author who came up with Watership Down also came up with many other stories about the rabbits. Other than the re-creation of the story, I have no problem with it. I do, however, kind of wished they'd picked up the tales AFTER the movie had ended, but before Hazen died.

@mumble9 well the original story is a little gruesome for kids but at the end of the day it is a story about little bunnies. Also blackberry is a girl to make up for the lack of female characters and to appeal to both genders.

i think that this version is good as it is more suitable for kids and then when they are adults and know the story then they can watch the original which has a lot of blood and sad/scary scenes in it which may not be suitable for young kids........

i personally like the older version more as well, but actually i wouldn't compare them with each other in the first place.
i liked both versions as a child, and this one is just a softer disneyfied version, BUT neither is it cheesy nor don't i really see a reason to hate it. it's drawn nicely and it's a pretty series (series!) in its way as well.
there is a lot of series out there that are worse, yet less critisized since they aren't based on a book that already had another famous movie for it.

Some things are different and it does dummy down the tale a bit, but It's a good way to introduce the younger kids to the book/movie. I think this is an okay idea.

The Author who came up with Watership Down also came up with many other stories about the rabbits. Other than the re-creation of the story, I have no problem with it. I do, however, kind of wished they'd picked up the tales AFTER the movie had ended, but before Hazen died.

@MrThePsychologist basically the rabbit Fiver had a bad vision about their original warren. so he and some others left it. after many adventures they make it to the Watership Downs. there they become friends w/ the gull and realize there are no females. so after more adventures they get does (females) but only after they nearly die
