The difference between a horse and a cow is that a horse serves you through it's entire life and interacts directly with a human. Intelligent enough to bond and were former pets. Another thing you can do is instead of buying your next horse from a breeder (part of the problem) buy your next horse from a horse rescue. You can also offer a rescue horse a temporary home.
You can find rescues near you by searching '(your state) horse rescue'
Initially someone has the money for a horse,what they lack is devotion to the horse. If you own a horse,keep it, if you can't be responsible for the horse its entire life then don't own one in the first place.
I don't agree with slaughter, but I also don't agree with seeing starving unwanted horses either. Not everybody can save every horse. What gets me is that the experience before the slaughter, should be much better and more kind. Although I and many other people would love to save all the horses in the world it is impossible. I would love to have a horse or even fifty horses, but I don't have the place or the money. What really needs to be stopped is overbreeding.

I fear we will never end horse slaughter worldwide...it simply isn't reasonable...but we can monitor it and make sure the animals are dispatched in better ways than this.

I just had a horse put down. She was shot, at home, It was really sad to watch, then her body has gone for meat, so she can live on.

What can be done? One thing you can do is support your local horse rescue with gifts, money, your time or raising awareness. Another thing you can do is instead of buying your next horse from a breeder (part of the problem) buy your next horse from a horse rescue. You can also offer a rescue horse a temporary home.
You can find rescues near you by searching '(your state) horse rescue'

I don't agree with slaughter, but I also don't agree with seeing starving unwanted horses either. Not everybody can save every horse. What gets me is that the experience before the slaughter, should be much better and more kind. Although I and many other people would love to save all the horses in the world it is impossible. I would love to have a horse or even fifty horses, but I don't have the place or the money. What really needs to be stopped is overbreeding.

I told my mom that they really should get rid of the slaughterhouse. I hated seeing just horse MEAT. we need to stop them. The only reason horses are going to the slaughterhouse, is because the are being "mean" "rude" and "they don't listen". THAT'S BECAUSE THEY'RE SCARED. They just need some more practice-the reason they kick, is because the people are scaring them, the horses are scared, they don't know what your going to do. Um just so you know, God put all animal here to serve a purpose - to serve man, I feel when an animal outlives it usefulness as a work animal then maybe these horses are continuing to serve their purpose to man as food. They are keeping people from going hungry. You can't tell me that if you were hungry and all you had was horse you wouldn't eat it. I own a horse, and if it came down to me or the horse - I would have to chose me.

I saw one like yours on a channel called Horse and Country about a journey to the Slaughter house and I always cry at it.
