This bullshit about the public debt needs to stop. Surpluses just mean you're hoarding and money that is not spent is useless. What you should really be focussing on is reducing the external debt and issues that actually matter.
Good on you Wyatt ! It's a pity that some young people refuse to listen to the truth about Labor .
Labor Governments , since the Whitlam years has been bringing this country down . The current Labor / Green Government is out to bring this country even further down . People have to realise what Labor is doing is not good for Australia .
Your life has been short. Germany is not going so hot. You seem big on toys. As Treasurer Curly Howard, unlike Paul Keating never delivered a surplus. Nice how your lot never learned that a nation has to spend its way back to prosperity. You would rather see people go hungry than run a deficit.
Blah Blah Blah......another politician reading someone else's script given to them. Doesn't matter which side of the fence they come from, they're all in it for themselves and will ultimately enjoy a generous retirement package funded by us tax payers!!
At the end of the day, Australia need a balance of Liberal and Labor, Libs to save the money, Labor to spend it... have the Libs in power too long and you've got a rich government but a lacking infrastructure, have Labor in power too long and you'll have nice infrastructure but a massive debt.
I'm sorry but I can't take anyone seriously who is part of the liberal party, who are against gay marriage, climate change and refugees saying labor is stuck in the past.
On top of that it would be stupid to have a budget surplus coming out of the GFC.
Spending is the way to drive the economy forward at the current point of time.
@TheMclaggin besides, spending is necessary in the wake of any right wing government, as they drain the public purse in other ways and leave hospitals, schools and other essential public services in a parlous state due to their privations and neglect. It is the nature of the conservative/liberal/republican agenda.
i think delivering a surplus is over rated. especially when we can barely afford a decent medical system or cops. libs especially love delivering a surplus because it is very rarely that their rich friends had to put in for it
Wyatt! Hide the microphone champ. It's the 21st century dude. I can't take u seriously with that thang poking in my face! It is amazing u are where u are at your age but dang! At least act a lil bit gen y mate ;-)
Come on Wyatt - your picture of a "typical Labour Voter" from Yesteryear is Me!! The Hippy - and I STILL Look Like That Today!!!
Only problem is I am an Evangelical Christian Zionist that deplores Socialism, Communism and the Left Lunatic Liberals in general! I am a True Conservative and believe Jesus Christ is whom we serve!!
We need you in our New Party young man!! I will be in touch!
You are dead right Wyatt our country does deserve better. Our elderly even more so.
Labor doesnt want the added cost of housing those who have spent their life building this country to what it is today. Quite a few even went to war for our freedom yet try and get building approval to have a granny flat so as we can look after our own. This would alleviate cost to our country even if it the residence was a relocatable and only for insitue for their duration. Would love to hear your ideas.
so refreshing to hear someone of 21 years of age deliver a a powerful message like this. The proof is in the pudding and the benchmark has been set - Labor = a screwed economy. We have clowns running the country. Bring on the next election and lets get some real professionals back to running a tight ship - that actually has surplus rather than introducing new taxes and screwing our honest working aussies in the rear to pay for Labors mismanagement and poor policy and decision making ability
Spot on! Can the Libs put this on prime time tv? Unfortunately there are still a lot of rusted on labor voters who actually think Juliar and co are ok.
Glad to see someone my age in Parliament concerned about the reckless spending Labor governments have made in the past, present and of course the future.
Wayne Swan was correct in his last statement "our record stands in stark constrast to those opposite". It certain does - $47.857B deficit this year v $17.3B surplus in the last full year of the Howard government!
@lewisms79 lol. Simply comparing the budgets of two political parties, but doing so in different years with different events and situations, is very misleading and not a very good comparison.
It is ironic that you should choose technology and the internet as an example. The explosion of information technology will mean we need a significant increase in low latency high bandwidth internet. The coalition proposed at the last election to deliver this on wireless spectrum that doesn't exist with no serious alternative plan.
@thincle6626 Well, the NBN Cable thign isn't going to work either. Remember the Snowy Mountain Project. They couldn't drill the pipes through the mountains, could they? So how will they install cable?
LABOR is all about SPENDING other peoples STOLEN money on their welfare / criminal / unionised labor mates. Most Labor pollies have never successfully run a business, unless it was feeding off government handouts - government contracts.
@MrBelly01 - Absolutely agree with an early election.... bring it on and lets send the labor/green union packing once and for all. Everyone I know who voted labor/ greens in the last election have said they won't make the same mistake next time. Your days are numbered Ju-liar and Mr Swan.
What happened in 1990? Wasn't there a surplus under Hawke?

@TheMclaggin What economy? WE HAVE NONE!
:o
And FYI, the ALP is against Gay Marriage too, the LNP is against the PEOPLE SMUGGLERS, not the refugees and are also acknowledging climate change.

dont forget dont they say were moving forward..how can u move forward over a moutain of debt that grows day by day.... AAA+ Wyatt

Right after a GFC I wouldn't be expecting or wanting a surplus. Spending is the way to get our economy back on track.
I also find it rather humorous that the conservative party is accusing the leftist party of lack of change.
