Yeah, they now have many McDonald's restaurants over there (even in small towns-- I distinctly remember one in Vitre, cute medieval town in Brittany and shook my head). Also Starbuck's. I know things are supposed to change to keep up with evolving demands, but along with it comes increases in obesity, heart disease and type 2 diabetes mellitus (with all of the head to tow complications of that disorder).
A man I worked with flew to Athens to visit his parents, and the first thing he noticed from the window of his airplane was Wendy's. Time to buy stock in Slim-Fast.
The outside cafes that Paris is famous for are losing customers to fast-food restaurants. These cafes were forms of relaxation and now it seems that everyone is in a rush, so they go for meals that are quick and expedient.
... and this is such a shame. Culture down the drain! Besides Slim Fast, I recommend all pharmaceutical companies and medical tech firms hat produce things that diabetics need-- drugs, glucose meters, test strips and the like! We are ruining our own species. That coupled with stress from "fast paced living" and we won't have the life span that my grandparents had (early 90's).
There are some products that require trained expertise to demonstrate that drug stores can't provide. Say, for example, when hypertension goes so far that we must wear compression socks.
Did you know that one single Wendy's hamburger carries 1,100 calories? One Hot Pocket contains 3,550 ml of sodium! We are indeed unwittingly killing ourselves, slowly but sure.
Yeah, I work with diabetes 2 diabetics all the time. It used to be the disease affecting late middle age. Now we see it in kids. Cause?weight gain way too fast & the body just can't handle it! I was responsible for doing scoliosis screenings on 8th grade boys. Can't tell you the #of these kids now who are 200 lbs+ at that age!And acanthosis nigricans present (sign that their body is becoming resistant to its own insulin, so on their way to getting diabetes). Had a 5th grade girl who was 308 lb
I know some kids who are growing up on Coke, chips, fries, and doughnuts. The problem with diabetes or prediabetes at that tender age is that because they're so young, they feel invincible. Obesity can be a psychological problem as well. Hey, wait a minute! I'm telling you something you already know!
Actually, I loved this one for artistic value. I love how the spoonfuls of mousse and chocolate because the cake decorations. I think I'm safe because I also hesitate to cut a well decorated cake. It looks so pretty! (But I'll get on the scales tomorrow just to make sure!)
