@lindamaez think of it that way;the one with black hair has very short hair while the girl with blonde hair has them very long.To me it seems like the one with short hair is the younger side of the girl that thinks everything is right as long as you do everything for the other person. However the girl with long hair represents her older self, showing that she's been through so many things, that she ended up thinking that doing things only for herself is the right thing to do
The White 'I' wants and doesn't give. The Red 'U' gives and doesn't want. Both are happy as they are, however they are incomplete. They are both part of the girl, and if you look you will see male versions that belong to the boy at the end. Unless Red and White come together the girl and boy can't truly love each other, but when the girl's Red and White combine cards at the end and the 'I' and 'U' become a complete heart it shows that she really does love him not just herself.
The PV is complicated, but here's what I made out : The couple demanded love from each other, and that love is never a true one, and that in turn causes HURT from EGOSELFISHNESS. So they learn that true love had to be nurtured — Money (chips) can't buy it and nor can you gamble for it. You have to earn it.
I saw this at AOD a convention held in San Francisco with my sister. I went last weekend it was awesome the girl sang this song live and there was a Hatsune mIku concert for free :3 Gumi even performed. :3
So I get the base story. But what's with the bears? Are they like symbols for each half of the girl and because they're abused is that like showing how she hates herself for the mistakes she's made?
@BloodyWolf51 I think the bears repersent their inner struggle, Like when your feelings are hurt but you don't show it. That's why the bears have the band aids and when the girls admit to themselves that they are hurting they get the same wounds.
what do the bears represent in this? both the girls and the bears have the same wounds, and when they both reach for the bears, they are shocked with pain?
@mangaxotaku I think it signifies pain the both types of loves go through... The ego (I) is always loving it self and always put others second, therefore alienating them... Making the Ego alone.... While as the Selfish one (U) Just does everything for the person... And nothing for the self... Therefore could lead to being abused, and taken advantaged of... At least... that's what I think anyways...
@AnimeKittyNyah Well one was a boy in the beginning too. The rest is told from the girl's PoV where one represents the girl (and the self/I) and the other the boy (the ego/we) and whether she truly loves him or is only doing it for herself. At the end she has made her choice.
At least that is my impression, but it's up to you.
@kankuro876 The song is about the girl in a relationship. She was thinking about how to do with it.
To be EGO (When she gives her love for the boy, he should give her respect like a present, money) or SELFISH (The boy should give love for her, so she'll give boy her respect.)
Well, In the end. She just realized that Love it's giving to and also received from the lover. Not to be only one-side. :)
@rabbitgirl939 No, Seishin means that you see the boy leave from an opposite door and, behind him, are his two alteregos. They were also the people who gave out and collected the chips in the girls world. That was their give or take.
@MikoDraw www1 .axfc .net/uploader/Ne/so/122837 Remove any spacings. Password is "ego" without the quotation marks. It's all in japanese, but it's easy to determine what is what.
White = "I". She puts forward the card and gets all the chips in return. Red = "U". She puts gets all the chips taken away.
Also notice the colouring of the guys. The one who gives the "I" girl the chips has the "U" colouring and vice versa. The guy had been going through the same thing in the same place.
The song is called "Egoselfish" - a combination of I (Ego) and U (Selfish). "Your happiness means my happiness" can be considered a type of selfishness if you think about it.
am I the only one who noticed that the two guys at the end, behind the closing door, were the dealers who gave and took the chips from the girls when they were at their own tables? Everything seems come full circle.
@SylaDay I'd give my left arm too...(because I really need my right one Dx) Anyways~ I wonder if they really might make a boy one? :3 Cuz that would be...Too good for words! <3
Also, just noticed. But at 0:12, you can see what each "girl" stands for. The blonde (the one that looks most like the girlfriend) is the girl that wishes to love for herself, as the "I" symbol is hers on the card. The dark haired girl (the one that has the same colored hair as the boyfriend) represents the desire to love for one's partner, and has the "U" symbol for herself. I'm sure if the boyfriend has his version of the song, it would be switched around. Very clever, DECO~ Very clever. <3
@G0ldenButterfly Well actually the hair seems to more like the the girl In white has the hair COLOR, and the girl in red has the same haircut as the main girl. The girl in white seems to be like that Stereotypical girl who thinks of only herself so she dyes her hair. (and the fact that if you dye your hair in Japan people think you're a delinquent."
The girl in the beginning is confronted by two issues; should she love for herself or love for her partner? The two girls represent these idealogies and are fighting each other to prove which one is better. In the end, they come to the conclusion that both of their idealogies are right and wrong; and that a relationship should be about the happiness of both parties, not one or the other. In the end, the girl comes to this conclusion, and it's hinted that the boy was struggling with this as well.
@G0ldenButterfly In the end, the card in the girl's pocket is never shown, but more then likely it would've said "I & U" or just "I Love U" which represents the combination of idealogies and the idea that couples should seek the happiness for both parties and that there is never a "white and black" decision. Anyway, great song, and another fabulous product of Marina and Deco*27! <3
I am guessing that the red and white girls were the girl at the ends personallity. like she wanted to give all of her love to him but also wanted the same. She didn't know what to choose.
O my God, I LOVE LOVE LOVE DECO*27 <3 And is this marina as in the Seiyuu for Iwasawa Angel Beats marina?!?!? Because I love her! This is the most amazing song ever XD
What I think is that since all three songs are about the same characters, after Long-Distance Long Affair, do they want to give up what they want for each other or live for themselves, given up the relationship? In the end, both of them decide to pick the relationship instead of themselves because they realize the relationship IS them, and they ARE the relationship.
The ending feels a bit ambiguous for me...As many others, I think the main girl who appears at the end is troubled whether she should live for herself or the person she loves...There are two specific cards: one with "I" (for self) and one with "U" (for her partner). The lyrics ask if you will go with your "egoselfishness"? Meaning will you choose yourself or your partner? At the end the girl walks out w/ one card in her left breast pocket...and the card floats up & starts to flip to the front
@TammyDayo (cont.) but we don't get to see what's on the other side of the card..."U" or "I"? So we don't know what she chose...but as self-contradictory as I am xD;; I sort of think the video is also saying that we should balance it out like at 3:13 "let them be good friends" yet the end asks if our "egoselfishness" will allow us to do so? OuO;;
The genius of DECO*27's songs is the multiple reference points that it gives the interpreter. There are so many interpretations with different points of view that any answer is correct provided that it had a full grasp of the symbolism used. Postmodernism in its fullest.
from my own experience, i think the song is about... god, it's hard to explain!.. well, i've always had this feeling in life about how selfish humans are, when you look at it with a naked eye. instead of LOVING a person, you could be LOVING YOURSELF, and think subconsciously that you deserve that person because you love yourself that much.
(aka Egoselfish) ie: if you see a cute guy, you think "i want to be his girlfriend" but really you're saying "a deserve it to myself to have a guy like him"
As a translation note, apparently "tako" can mean "callus." Thus, "ego or tako" would be "ego or callus." I believe this makes much more sense than "ego or octopus," as it relates to the theme of "I or U".
I had to reach for a dictionary though, as my mind also went to "octopus" first.
please tell me who is this? i just clicked on this link and now i love whoever is singing so please! tell me more about this song and it's mystery singer! I BEG YOU
I'm thinking the two girls represent give and take in a relationship.
The white dressed one is take (you can see she recieves all the tokens from the boy) and the red one is give (all hers are given to the boy). The main main girl might be having trouble balancing or getting the two to even out becasue love is a give/take thing, it can't be one sided. Also at the end I'm fairly certain the boy went through the same as he came out of a similar door with similar characters.
@fuzzybeanful That would make sense with the boys as well, because in the poker chip part, the boys are opposite the girls; the red boy gives all his chips to the white girl, and the white boy takes all the chips from the red girl. The boys in this scene are the same ones seen through the other door at the end, no?
@fuzzybeanful And I thought that everything in the PV was just to be cool. When I tried to understand, I completely failed... Even the timing of the lyrics matches up with your theory, at the "I'm doing this all for you; I'm doing this all for me" part. Thanks for explaining!
You can see in the end in the other door (the Boy's door) you have two boys, I think the redheaded girl and the blond boy represents the girl, and the brunette girl and boy represents the boy. I think it is that 8D
OMFG I GET IT Now!! So the girl in the beginning is doubting if she loves her boyfriend or not and he is thinking the same thing so they are" transported to this world witch tells them the story of what I think are two friends, we see what happens in the world the girl was transported to but not the guy's so they were both selfish (A.k.a that's what the boy and girl were being) and ended up hurting each other, they never talked to each other again, until they saw each other somewhere, and they
I feel like it's about the boy and the girl as a couple, and the decision they have to make at one point: Do I want to live for myself or live for the person I love, and they realize that at that point, they love/know each other so well, they might as well be the same person, so it wouldn't make a difference :)
Beautiful Song *O* ! <3

(aka Egoselfish) ie: if you see a cute guy, you think "i want to be his girlfriend" but really you're saying "a deserve it to myself to have a guy like him"

"Ai to ai" If I'm not mistaken, that means "Love and love" not "love and self". ??
leDiachan 2 months ago
@leDiachan It's supposed to be a bilingual joke, Not "Ai to Ai" (Love and Love.) But "Ai to I." (Love and myself)

At the end when it doesn't show the card, I think it's to show that they now chose whether or not they will take the love or return it.

Also at the end I'm fairly certain the boy went through the same as he came out of a similar door with similar characters.
fuzzybeanful 2 months ago 145
@fuzzybeanful thanks!!!! That explaination helped a lot!
NightnareViolinist 2 months ago
@fuzzybeanful That would make sense with the boys as well, because in the poker chip part, the boys are opposite the girls; the red boy gives all his chips to the white girl, and the white boy takes all the chips from the red girl. The boys in this scene are the same ones seen through the other door at the end, no?
AxelSoda 1 month ago
@fuzzybeanful And I thought that everything in the PV was just to be cool. When I tried to understand, I completely failed... Even the timing of the lyrics matches up with your theory, at the "I'm doing this all for you; I'm doing this all for me" part. Thanks for explaining!

You can see in the end in the other door (the Boy's door) you have two boys, I think the redheaded girl and the blond boy represents the girl, and the brunette girl and boy represents the boy. I think it is that 8D

LilyFan9503 2 months ago
