@RoundularMan Monsterquest, I think. They had a historian guy talking about the novel and author, and he told about the original ending at the end of the episode. They were trying to find out if white sperm whales could really be as aggressive as in Moby Dick.It turns out Sperm Whales are kinda aggressive, and since a white sperm whale doesn't blend in with it's surroundings as much as regular sperm whales, it makes it more vulnerable to predators and would have to be more aggressive to survive.

@PyroGothNerd Thanks. I'll look into this. I know the book is based on the true life story of the sinking of the Essex whale ship. It was hit twice by a big bull sperm whale. But it was a regular one. Making it white was all Melville's idea. I've seen only one documentary that showed a white sperm whale and it was a baby. It had never been filmed and they wondered if it would stay white into adulthood. I never saw a follow up on it though and so wish I had recorded it.

Wow. Hilarious. Herman Melville could never have imagined that someone in the twenty-first century would so drastically change the ending of his book.

I wonder if I'll ever be able to read Moby Dick at all, what with all the re-edits of it. Someone else on Youtube very cleverly edited the Gregory Peck version of Moby Dick and Das Boot together into a storyline that made sense.

@AvatarYoda Heh, yeah. I'm a big fan of the book and it's an awesome story. I love the two movies too despite them changing stuff around and leaving so much out. I've always imagined Ahab turning into a nice guy if he just got his whale in the end. But this was something fun to do. I saw the one with Das Boot. It was incredible.

Thank you. I'm new at this editing thing but it's a lot of fun. I've watched the original 1956 movie too and it's a very good movie as well.  In the Patrick Stewart film Gregory Peck makes a cameo as the preacher and gives a rousing sermon. It as a nice little nod they gave to the original film.
