This was pretty much the last hurrah of the Weis era. I know there was a big winning streak after the loss to Michigan (one week after the PSU rout), and it included two classic comebacks, but - this was the last time anyone could really tell themselves Weis was the guy. The Michigan debacle, the MSU and UCLA escapes, the LSU debacle, then 2007, etc. So, this was a nice performance anyway. They played hard.

Amazingly, I'm both a Penn State and Notre Dame fan. Penn State is my top team, while Notre Dame is my second favorite. Only time I cheer against the Irish is when they play my beloved Nittany Lions. Good luck Notre Dame in 2009, I'd love to see the Irish go to a BCS bowl and win it. Use the momentum of destroying Hawaii (who isn't as bad as some people say they were, they went 12-1 the year before) to vault yourself into a BCS bowl. Or at the very least, a good non-BCS bowl.

Why dont we? We won our conference and beat Ohio State in Columbus and were a FG away from an undefeated season. We earned our shot there. We just got beat by quite possibly and in my opinion the best team in the land. @JB5GoIrish As a fan of both schools (Penn State and Notre Dame), 2009 was doubly frustrating for me because of all the close losses in a year full of "what could have been". PSU lost two stubborn defensive battles against Iowa and Ohio State, with the best win being over LSU. Notre Dame came painfully close to winning so many games it drove me crazy, but worst of all, doesn't go to a bowl despite being 6-6 and better than the 2008 team that destroyed Hawaii.

2005 was played in Ann Arbor, so the zebras managed to add some time to the clock and rule an out of bounds catch in bounds. 2006 was in Beaver Stadium, but against the best Michigan team in years, still we never once were out of that game. 2007, well, there's no excuse for that. We played like shit and deserved to lose to Illinois and Michigan thanks to Austin "Butterfingers" Scott. 2008 is in Beaver Stadium, a great PSU team against a depleted Michigan team. Results should be in our favor.
