I just built one of these in Australia. Baited it with bread and for two days, nothing. Then I get up today and it has two sparrows in it. thanks for sharing your design.
Just built a sparrow trap following this video. My doesn't look pretty since I did it with scrap wood. If it works, maybe I'll get some decent wood and build a pretty one!
why dont u build them and sell them for people to buy and maybe build bigger ones for magpies or pigeons? because i have a pigeons and i want to get rid of them but do not have to material to build it.

thanks mate iv built my first trap and it works great i only catch doves with it but i get 2 a day my chooks have just wreaked it and pulled all the fencing wire out but im watching it again and im going to build another =) thumbs up
They are prolific and aggressive birds that thrive at the expense of small native birds.
Purple martins and other birds like blue birds (and any bird using a nest box) can be kicked out of their nest, babies and all, or left in pieces by these nasty critters.
They can form a nest colony in your attic or near where you eat and piles of their droppings, feathers, mites and other stuff can cause great harm and make you sick.
Thanks - I know it needs a cage etc, but this is just the mechanism. As I said I tried this cause I cant seem to make an elevator that well. Im in the 'all into the garbage and start again' stage. I should just buy one and be done with it!
@kennnmoran - I like your mechanism very much. Way to think out of the box!!! The cans are economical but I would also test with some hardware cloth cylinders. I think the repeating sparrow trap is a great idea but it needs improvements such as yours. Nice job.
@biodot88 Thanks, Im honoured! I havent go it going yet, too many other projects and renovating the house. The guys with the elevators are way in front of me at the moment, but Ill get there
This trap works really well with the sturdy pvc lift. The trap got some house sparrows, but mostly contained song birds and some greyish finch, what should be put in the bait to catch mainly house sparrows? I placed sunflower seeds and a bit of bird feed that are for parakeets. What should be there to get mainly house sparrows? Thanks again.
@sandpiper22 look, i have hundrets of sparrows in my yard that eat my chickens food, and i still have millions of mosquitos, so think twice before gathering sparrows in your yard, they eat my pea plants too, they are a disaster
Thanks for the video i made one with my dad but unfortunley i only caught one on the first day. Can anybody message me with advice on how to set it and what position to also?
could you please remember me how long are the 3 basic piecies of wood?...18*16 ?
