I like 90% of the stuff you guys post on here, but I have to say, this just straight doesn't make sense. In the begining, you show passing into mount.... EVERYTHING a grappler knows is to prevent this, to get mount on a good grappler take A LOT of effort and skill, personally, if a guy tried to pass my guard like you showed in this video he would get a VICIOUS heel hook which results in a popped ankle, ripped knee, and dislocated hip.
Fair say... not everyone (dispite wat they think) is a pro-grappler though, and alot of them when caught off/spit in their eyes etc forget all that shit. Do you guys Really think everything we do is posted on youtube?? this is ONE drill.. I didntsay it was the be all to end all, the focus is on the striking anyways with beginners deonstrating. Everyone tends to sit here on youtube and pick out the one fault there could Possibly be in a 'technique'.. I dont see the point. Each 2 their own I guess
No doubt, I just think that "approach with caution" is appropriate. Just cause a guy is on his back, doesn't mean he is at a disadvantage. Anyway man, I'm a fan of your work, come to Canada sometime, and let me know when you do!
Collapse your weight onto their body and land a strike to the body with an elbow or knee. This will shock their system and give you an advantage to the neck region. As your adrenal glands work your body and brain, you'll be able to work punches as you've well described.
As a grappler, clinching and tying up your opponent up is what stops effective striking. We train grappling 6 days a week and against striking of all kinds. Its very difficult to strike effectively on the ground when clinched and tied up. We train not to give strikers space. When mounted we clinch and escape to top position, From the mount we will also clinch, control, strike and submit. As a grappler we train against good strikers, as a striker train against someone who is a good grappler.
Love the approach mate, agree with it fully and have a VERY similar out look. SIlat has the same *No gaps* theory in grappling..Anyways, I like what you said.
in a street fight against an avid street fighter it would be tough to say I have fought in the streets alot, and most poeple try not even dare go to the ground. usually others jump into it to foot stomp or if its one on one there's eye gouges strikes to the groin hair grabbing biting etc. some many scenarios into this.
but preparation is a small step for any sport or street fighter from a striking and grappling backround. the most important to me is act before being acted upon
@CaiRemnant : Noticed your comment. I disagree. I think that most people don't know how to defend against a strong grappler and as a result, they get taken down. To defend against a grappler, you in essence need to become one in order to understand the concepts. You can't defend against or counter what you don't understand.
I agree with you to a point there and that tactic is seen in nearly ALL military training; Understanding the enemy, enemy weapons, capabilities & impacting factors.. However, in my experience although I do agree with you.. I train to not be cocky but again not too concerned with what they may do but what they are doing and that should already be copn it from me! Sit tjhere pondering and you have already lost. Be assertive and aggressive and your odds are better regardless the situation.
arent these things what people do on instincts but when faced with the actual thing the whole aspect change.. when you were mounted and you still continued on punching you will be at an disadvantage cause your mounted attacker will have more reach and your hips are trapped to throw effective punches meanwhile your attacker will pound away. in my opinion you should reposition yourself first before resuming your strikes
Are you kidding me? Have you ever seen a real fight? Most out when tackled out grappled, I dont care about positions in this type of training if my hands are free they are beating the SHIT out of him, thats my ONLY concern, I wont stop till they drop. People say a good grappler will wrap you up if you strike on your back... Only if you let him! Keep it RAW!;-)
yea this black kid at school got mounted and he resumed striking back and forth with the white kid when he realized his punches wasnt affecting the guy on top and the guy on top just kept punching and so turned his back and got punched even more. he lost obviously.. but all i'm saying you should atleast bump him off.
You should really defend youself when faced with down pounding wild punches
When Ortiz held the title in his pretty much four year run he was great at posturing up and smashing through the guard. Like the striking from the floor...
Just thought I'd say... You're fucking scary.

Can you spare some thoughts regards taking out the grappler in the act of the take down.
Many seem far too compliant with taking the fight to the floor, which is precisely where the sports grappler wants you to be.
I have my own thoughts on this, and as a fighter that is much more comfortable on my feet than on my back I am interested to find out yours.

if its self defense and there arent any rules such as in the cage, simply drop all of your weight onto their spine with an elbow..
