The opposition portion of this video is truncated. Not only will Prop 9 duplicate victim rights already extant (restitution is already required, etc.), it will also set CA law against the US Constitution. Prop 9 takes away the right to a lawyer and a speedy parole hearing against fed law. 9 will not just cost millions in add'l incarceration costs-it will cost millions in legal battles which CA will ultimately lose because the US Constitution ALWAYS trumps state law. VOTE NO ON 9.
Prop 9 would force CA to hold on to inmates for longer than necessary before even considering granting parole. It wouldn't matter how much less of a threat an inmate might have become in the meantime. That will cost hudreds of millions. Currently, parolees facing a return to prison have the right to counsel to test the case against them. Prop 9 seeks to take counsel away from all but a few at such hearings. Let's not borrow or go into more debt to do the wrong thing. Vote "NO" on Prop 9.
