For the critics out there! This fish was legal, by the hair on his chin legal, but legal.  47" with the curvature and weighted in at 46 pounds. The only true way to measure a tuna is with a string not a ruler! Measure from nose to fork with mouth closed following the natural curve of the fish. A 47" tuna will measure close to 2" less using a straight edge or tape on the deck. Thanks Capt Dave

The recreational daily bluefin tuna (BFT) retention for limit for HMS Angling and HMS Charter/Headboat vessels (while fishing recreationally) is 1 BFT/vessel/day/trip, measuring 27 to less than 47, and 1 BFT/vessel/day/trip, measuring 47 to less than 73" CFL. This limit effective through December 31, 2009.

And it also says you can keep one 73" or greater per year or something like that. Although it might be different for charter boats like the purple jet..
