  • What a bloody show off! Wonderful! Elisa

  • Carlos and his band mates (especially Armando on the congas), should be recognized as one of the greatest musicians that ever walked the earth, people from around, please, listen to the beautiful that these masters have given to ya, as a gift...

  • El gran maestro Carlos Santana, unico en su genero.

  • 1981ネシャブールの出来事~サンタナ必須曲~フィルモア最後の日のアルバムもこのキラーチューンだったナ!

  • Loved this since it was introduced. Takes me back.

  • 3:40 tear every time

  • i have been only in two concerts of him.

i want at least one more, before he retired.

  • my favorite guitar player.

    hes style is unique.

  • despite the quality the beauty shines through, amazing , love it !

  • dude lol howo can you dislike this video/song...what were those three people thinking

  • Awesome, do you have any other videos from this concert? I know the version of Europa he did during this concert was phenomenal.

  • Armando Peraza (perc/vo)

    Graham Lear (ds)

    David Margen (b)

    Carlos Santana (g/perc/vo)

    Richard Baker (kbd)

    Alex Ligertwood (g/vo)

    Orestes Vilato (perc/vo)

    Raul Rekow (perc/vo)

  • His note at 3:38 was so good that it made the video skip.

  • This is opne of the BEST jams EVER!!! Aw, it would have been amazing to be there :P

  • Love Graham Lear's Toronto Maple Leaf jersey! That's my Ontario boy!

  • ENORMMEEEEEEEE !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • niceeee

  • Holy shit! That was AMAZING!!! AAAAH!!!! Love it!!!!

  • Who's the lead pianonist ?

  • Richard Baker.

he played in the band '80~'82

  • Superb musicianship.

  • Santana had a lot of accomplished bass players, but David Margen was not one of them. Listen to Doug Rauch, David Brown.

  • Great Jam!

  • The sustained note at 3:35 was sharp but i'd bet Carlos wanted it that way for a little tension. ~cg5

  • Sounds like he was having equipment problems! The last few times I saw him it pissed me off. It seems like he always has problems with his equipment when I show up! LOL! Notice how he starts out with a rich reverb when his solo comes in at 1:39! Then all of a sudden the reverb is gone and his tone goes thin and dry! Doesn't explain him going sharp but suggests that maybe he was a little off his game because of frustration.

  • Michael Shrieve was the best drummer Santana had. Read a little history of the band.

  • .....And ya GOTTA LOVE THAT YAMAHA 175 B... it was the precurser to the production model SG 2000, he also had a green one with a hindi woman on the front .....!!.

  • Not really! The Yamaha was too bright. It sounded tinny and metallic to my ears. Or maybe it was just the EQ that Carlos was using at the time. But the Les Paul was more fat and warm than his Yamaha. Although the Yamaha did do a good job at times. Tunes like Europa and Tunes on the Swing of Delight LP sounded really nice on the Yamaha! But Santana's signature sound will always be from the period when he played the Les Paul.

  • By the way ...! Carlos had his Les Paul pickups put in the Yamaha.

  • You're right man. That Yamaha has a spiritual sustance, and I remember a black and a blue one with an inlay dragon [I think], but I haven't seem that green you said above. I would like to know a webpage with that Yamaha green.

    Regards from Barranquilla, Colombia..!!

  • I guess Denis Chambers doesn't count for shit huh?

  • Who is on keyboards?

    ¿Quien toca el piano?

  • It's Richard Baker, who payed with Carlos and his band from 1980-82.

  • lol no BB

  • and no srv??

  • Viva Santana,

    more from this concert!!!!!

A cold thrill runs through my vains....

  • Graham Lear looked a little like Mike Shrieve...that's where the confusion happens.

  • @gooneybird47 I'm sure Carlos was counting on that.

  • @gooneybird47

    daang, they look like bros...lol

  • Viva el Santana.. forever..

  • BAD ASS ORGAN SOLO!

  • DAMN RAUL IS BAD ON CONGAS!

  • yep, its Michael Shrieve, making a great combo with Mr. Carlitos.

  • I love Carlos but his more recent stuff seems to have lost some of the magic, I guess he's been forced down the commercial road.

  • If i'm not mistaken, this was shot in Germany. Greatest guitarist ever, period.

  • Man, where and how can I get this concert? I definetely want to get this whole set. You have Santana here playing the classics in the Zebop era, this is unique stuff! From the remaining lineup today appears Raul rekow, Vilato and Peraza were at the percussion, and Chester Thomson was not there yet in keyboards

  • AWESOME TOM COSTER KEYBOARD SOLO !

Santana the greatest for ever...EVER.... EVEEEEEERRRRRRRR !!!!!!!

  • It's not Tom Coster on keyboards / piano on this one - it's Richard Baker playing the keyboard solo here. He played with Santana from 1980-82. Tom Coster played with Santana from 1972-78 and 1983-84

  • who's on keyboard?

  • Richard Baker.....

  • shot

  • huh?

  • thanks

  • Oh hah sorry no problem.

  • 'thanks' =-) Its a South African thing

  • OKAY i'll remember that!

  • My best Santana song thanx for the post

  • Is that Michael Shrieve playing the drums? As far as I'm concerned he was the best drummer Carlos ever had. To bad so sad they parted ways. Does anyone know what year this is. I'm shure that is a PRS he is playing which is what he is still playing. Such an awesome band no matter.

  • It's Graham Lear playing drums...circa 1981-1982...during the Zebop, Shango albums...

  • Graham Lear. But people often mix the two up I guess they look alike quite a bit.

It's the Yamaha SG. It destroys any PRS. :-D

  • was he playin a Yamaha SG2000?or is that a Paul Reed Smith?

  • Gibson???

  • SG custom built with gold outlay etc. He lost the Gibson SG sound but still a legend can play anything and sounds top level. Magic song.

  • Its a Yamaha Sg2000

  • the performance at Fillmore East blows this away...unfortunately not available here.

  • wow! great soung i can have a great time dancing to this lol

  • Thanx for this. Incident At Neshubar is hard to find. So thrilling. I love it.

  • WOW A GOOD LATIN SOUND I KNOW I CAN KEEP UP WITH THIS SOUND lol Esperanza Elashry

  • this video would have me dancing latin strong .LOL eSPERANZA eLASHRY

  • Thanks so much. I love this song!!!

  • hes from the town im from autlan jalisco compa

  • orale compa. greetings from the US

  • Cold and stiff compared to the pre-Amigos line-ups.

  • You've got to be kidding !! This is one of the alltime best line-ups that Carlos has ever had - only guy really missing at this point is Chester Thompson on keyboards. Carlos' conga line-up (Raul Rekow and Armando Peraza) + Orestes Vilato on percussion has never been exceeded by any prior or later line-ups.

  • if there any bass players out there, can you play this isong without your hands killing you? hahaha This is my all-time favorite Santana recording, bar none...i love the different moods of the whole thing, the dark jazz arrangements on piano, the slow ending...this song is like sex, minus the foreplay ;o)

  • thats a nice performance right there...Abraxas was the best album Santana has ever put out...way better than "supernatural"

  • Carlos has many very good albums in between but I agree that Abraxas was one of his very best. More remarkably though is that Carlos used to play a lot better - like e.g. in this clip. Since Supernatural and the Shaman album all his playing and solos sound alike and the sound of his guitar sounds like he is playing under a pillow. He used to have much more diversified playing and crystal clear sound on the guitar - as also shown in this clip.

  • you're right! Plus I can't really tell, but is that a PRS? PRS has that "under a pillow"sound you're talking about...even though they are great guitars!

  • No the guitar that Carlos plays in this piece is a Yamaha SG2000. But during the same concert, e.g. on "Europa" he plays his PRS and it sounds great. Thus the problem is not in the guitar but merely in the tone settings on the guitar and the amps that Carlos uses nowadays. Carlos these days seems to like the treble turned down which gives it that "under a pillow sound".

  • i only knewed the live in Japan version from a triple elpee great to sea it on a video

  • That lick that he plays @ 7:11 is from Let Us Go Into the House of the Lord from Love Devotion and Surrender. That was the album he did with John McLaughlin. I always liked that particular lick.

  • That is not Gregg Rolie, is Richard Baker, who played with Santana in the years 1980 to 1982, by the way Tom Coster was in Santana band in the years 1972 to 1978 and 1983 to 1984, oh I forgot to say that this song is full of that special feeling only Santana can put in each string! Abraxas, one of the best Santana albums, no doubt!

  • Yes Gregg Rolie and Neal Schon had started Journey a few years before this and never played with Carlos again.

  • Gregg Rolie has toured with Carlos on some of his tours since the original band brak up and the original Santana band gave a reunion concert some years back which had attendance from bot the original band line-up (incl. Gregg Rolie and Neal Schon) as well as the new Santana band.

  • I didn't know that they had played together again, glad to hear that and I missed out by not being in attendance!

Thanks for the info, it does matter to me!

  • any information on that guitar?

  • I believe that is a Yamaha SG2000.

I love the tone he gets from this guitar, I personaly think it is better than the Paul Reed Smith Santana models.

  • agreed. Sweetest tone Santana ever had. For ballads the Yamaha and the boogie were unbeatable. Carlos was already playing PRS at this time but brought out the Yamaha for Europa, Samba Pa Ti and Incident at Neshabur

  • Agreed - Armando was the best. Is that Greg Rolie on keyboard? Looks like him but I thought he'd left by then and replaced by Tom Coster. Incident is my favourite rock song ever. So many changes of rhythm and beat.

  • that was Richard Baker on keyboards,He played on the Zebop & Shango albums only.

  • Will there ever be video released of great camera work on an extended bongo solo by Armando Peraza? Who knows?

Towards the end ot this cut is a small hint of the greatness that is Armando on el bongo.... Mangual called him the best bongosero he had ever seen, what can I say.....
