cvt gets better fuel economy?? theoreticaly, yes. mechanicly, no....slipage and inefficienty not taken into consideration here...not to mention mechanicly weak. not a 200,000 mile transmission.
I bought a 2008 rouge with ALL available options, and I love it!! I always get compliments. But I gotta admit I'm already having transmission problems! It slips gears, over revs, won't shift. And the thing sucks on gas. One year we took my bfs 97 Nissan maxima on a 250 mile drive, and when we made it to the destination, we still had a quarter tank left. We took the rouge, and the gas light was on before we even made it there. So, I don't know. It soooooooo comfortable, and I love absolutely eve

Good car! The 2009 Toyota Matrix is a contender with this. Nice clearance better than the Matrix. Interior cargo is 57.3 Rogue 61.5 Matrix. Nice console there and glovebox is better than the Matrix.
One big negative is the fold down split--they are arched downwards very bad! Matrix is perfectly flat. Pluses and negatives on both camps.
alrite- im looking for my first car and need some help. i'm 18 years old, and i want something fuel efficient, sporty, and roomy so i can transport snowboards/dirt bikes/ect... im debating between this and the 2008 nissan frontier. the only reason why im even considering this is cuz theres room in the back for.......uk.......the "play room" ;)
Nissan is just as reliable as Honda or Toyota if not more. I have own many Nissans old and new a 300zx,maxima, and my current 02 X-Terra with 135k miles on and a 02 Altima with 95K on it and no problems ever. I own a Nissan 300Z when I was in high school that had 250k miles and was 14 years old and I put another 48k gave to my little brother who is driving it for 4 years now. I love Nissan. For anyone having secong thoughts, give them a chance they will not let you down.
thank you for saying that, I'm not having any regrets so far about my trade in but you have put my mind at ease in regards to the future reliability of my Nissan.
I did a lot of research before buying the Rogue. I let go of my Jeep Wrangler (Very Fun To Drive!). Got practical and I can tell you from day one of Rogue ownership... I'm not disappointed at all. This CRV is very versatile. Drives solid. Is very well built and gives me the ability to sit higher up over other cars when driving. Its downfall.... no door guards (yet).. Other than this... its a winner in every way! Nissan did great in the building and design on this one.
I agree. I too did alot of research and HARD thinking before making this decision after all I ended up trading in my roomy and reliable Honda Element. Atleast for now, I feel it's the best decision I could have made. I LOVE my Rogue!
Ok first off let me start off by saying that my Element was the 2003 base model DX edition. It didn't have cruise control, power side mirrors or any kind of stereo system. My Rogue which is the 2WD SL edition does have the cruise control and an AMAZING Bose sound system. It also has the power side mirrors. Let me be frank with you and say that for me, my Rogue and my Element are as different as night and day not that they aren't both great vehicles but it really doesn't depend entirely on....
I mean does depend on what you're looking for in a vehicle. For me being in the Rogue is COMPLETELY different than being in my old Element. The Rogue is all Luxury while the Element is all about utility. When I had my Element, to me it wasn't like I was driving in an actual car, I felt like I was in a room. I'm 5'11 and I had a good foot and a half or so of head room and to be in the drivers seat and turn around and look into the back, well there's just so MUCH open space...
You could either lay your seats flat and have more space or fold them up and clip them to the sides with a metal clip and have even MORE open space. The floors are are a kind of vinyl, and the seats are a kind of canvasy sort of material, everything completely wipeable. One thing is for sure, the Element is built to get used hard and get extremely dirty.
Infact if you went camping you could use it as a tent or you can use it to haul your mountain bikes or in my case when I moved out of my old place I hauled everything except the huge stuff. When it comes to handling, my element handled pretty well except for, of course, on windy days. You also had a tendency to feel every bump in the road. I also wasn't a fan of the breaking system, not that it was bad or unsafe by any means, It's just that when I put my foot on the breaks to stop at a light...
I felt like I had to be a little more heavy footed than in my Rogue. As far as the over all ride or feel goes when handling, the Rogue is just a smoother ride. Even sudden stops or breaking in general just feel so much more smooth in my Rogue. Now when riding in my Rogue versus the Rogue isn't as roomy as the Element I really like that everything is well with in reach and just a touch a way. I LOVE my Bose stereo system with its controls mounted on the steering wheel.
Not to mention I'm a HUGE fan of cruise control, it's so nice not to have to constantly look down at the speedometer to make sure i'm not speeding which incidently is a blessing in the Rogue since the CVT transmission doesn't able you to feel when your car is shifting gears. I know some people complain about this but I actually love it, it just makes the ride that much more smooth.
Also I will say that you do feel some bumps in the road when driving the Rogue however I don't feel it to be as bad as in the Element and I feel the Rogue hugs the road and maneuvers incredibly well during tight turns even more so than the Element.
Look as I said both are FANTASTIC vehicles but it really all depends on what you plan on doing with your car. For me the Element is the pick up truck of SUV's lol. You can dirty it up all you want to because for the most part it can be cleaned and that is absolutely what its built for. Now if you are looking for something thats roomy and does have space to haul things (yes the seats fold down in the Rogue and in some of them, mine included, the front passenger seat also folds down) however...
unlike my Element, I DO care about maintaining the interior of my car. The Rogue just isn't built for hauling mountain bikes and using it as a tent to go camping. That was why I got it, because I was tired of utility, I was looking for something that contained alot of my old utility in something that was more luxurious and thats what I found in my Rogue. Seriously though if you do alot of out door activities or plan on hauling things with a lot of dirt on it go with the Element.
If you want a smooth ride that looks beautiful on the inside and out that does have alot of hauling capacity but you might want to sling mud all over the place in, go with the Rogue:) Btw, my Rogue has cruise control, a 6 disc cd changer, not one but two power adapters, power side mirrors, stereo control mounted steering wheel and roof racks, none of the things my Element had and all for only $4.11 a month more than what I was paying for my base model DX edition Element. Lets just say....
That is an incredible buy. I also hope you find lasting satisfaction with your new car. Thank you for such a thoughful reply, I really appreciate it. I'm thinking about getting the Element because of the headroom. (I have a very long torso, and like to sit up straight while driving.) But it's such a boxy car, and like you said, so much about it is utility. The rogue seems like it could drive like a sedan. Having said that, I know that Hondas are known for their legendary reliability.
You're absolutely right, they are known for their legendary reliability, infact before I settled on the Rogue I did stop by my local Honda dealership and get a closer look at the new CRV's because in passing on the road I absolutely LOVED the look of it. After actually getting a closer look at one however, I decided it wasn't for me. Another reason why I decided on the Rogue was because I was really interested in a Murano but the Murano just wasn't in my price range.
Have you test driven both the Element and the Rogue? I'm very curious as to what you thought about each of them...I can tell you that for your long torso you will most likely immediately fall in love with the Element but I guess you have to take into consideration all aspects of both vehicles but now that you know what I think of both, as I said, I would very much like your opinion.
I am not sure Nissan has the same reputation. I have had a 99 Civic without any problems whatsoever. And I drive like a maniac. =P Thanks again, niteangel!
No the Nissan doesn't have the same reputation that Honda does but what auto maker does? I do know that they much like Toyota have really started making a name for themselves, PARTICULARLY with their Altimas. I've also read that their Murano have done very well upon their release too albeit I think they had some sort or recall back in 04 maybe? Hmm...since then they haven't had any problems since I decided to go ahead and take the plunge into their new for 2008 Murano look a like...
I just pray I don't drown because with one year to go to pay on my Element and almost all of my payment going to principal instead of interest, this could prove to be one of the best decisions I've ever made or one of the biggest mistakes I've ever made. So far I'm feeling great about it, I'll let you know if things take a turn for the worse lol:) Good look with your decision. Whatever you decide on, I hope it makes you very happy!
:) Thanks! As far as testdriving is concerned, I LOVED the interior space, esp. headroom in the element. I can literally elongate my spine while driving (this is a good way to maintain my posture and stay alert)... I have yet to try the Rogue. I will let you know when I do. Enjoy your vehicle!
i have test driven a CVT transmission and its feels better than any other cars with conventional transmission to date, I really like it that there is no shift shock.
This is a great, the only cheaper than this is a Jeep Compass, but this get better Fuel MPG.I still think this is more practical than CRV and RAV4.
The Compass and its brother the Patriot are the modern day Gremlin and Pacer. Im saying this as a Expert, Who ever reads this Dont buy those cars lol. Nissian has perfected the CVT transmisson and If I wanted a car with CVT in it. I would go straight to the guys at Nissian.
I am sorry I don't know much about Gremlins and Pacers because I was born in 80. The only thing I know about is what I read from Wikipedia. I checked out Jeep Compass but its not that cheap when u add in all the options because their base model is just a piece of crap model. The other day I drove a dodge caliber and its the worst piece of crap I have ever driven. I am really not loving Chrysler and jeep at the moment.
and CVT transmission still feel better than anything out there.
The Cailber is trying to be a new Neon and its just not cut out for the job. I was born in the late 80s man, I just know about older guys cause I read to much. If you want a small efficent SUV or CUV get a 09 Escape or its Mercury Cuzin when they come out. The Rouge like he said is a good choice but alot of older people find its ride rather stiff.
No there not all Hybrids. You will be able to pick up a V6 for around 25ish when they come out. The current model Escape is nice but its kinda outdated in the engine and transmissons department
Currently drive a Scion XB (Box on Wheels) as a company car. I've always driven cars, but like the room in the Scion. I'm looking to buy a personal vehicle. I don't need a Murano, or really anything large like an Explorer. The Rogue appears to be a sharp and stylish vehicle. I am a single guy, 33 yrs old. Want something roomy and stylish. Rogue looks like it could be it. Anybody out there with a Rogue that can offer any suggestions?
I wanted a Murano...on my way across the car yard, i spotted a strange car..is it a hatchback? naww too small? a rav 4?? wtf is a rav 4 doing in at a Nissans Car yard? too small for a Murano...,its a *Dualis*(Australian) i walked away, i swear the lil dude winked at me, i was spent 1 hr bargaining a Murano i came to $1K and One hand shake away, the next morning I got the Rogue/Dualis. Dosnt make any sense i know.
this new SUV has made me think twice about going for the new CR-V I already own a 2006 CR-V and it has been excellent i haven't had any issues with it and I am very happy with it, now I wanna buy a 2008 model, should I risk it for a Rogue, or go for something I know will work perfect for me and won't give me any problems like the new CR-V
great car already heave one for two weeks now had a little problem with noise coming from front left wheel had to make trip to dealer it was just some loose screw on caliper cover rest is been great love bluetooth and pedal shifters v6 would make this car class leader ! step up Nissan throw in v6 !
If you haven't test drove one yet, you need to! It rides as good as the new altimas. This vehicle is comfortable, practical, and cheap! I test drove a new crv and it sucked! I thought i was sitting in the bleachers and the blind spots are horrible! The rogue will definetly be on my xmas list.
If you hate Ford and you want all their cars to stop being made then take this and paste it to 3 more vids if you dont then stupid old american ford will still be here
you´re right, but this is more beautiful!, by the way I didn´t poored your comment, you´re a kind of "concerned of his surroundings look alikes" like me hahahaa
Roadfly, you guys are great. I appreciate the dedication of this episode on a single model, which I believe is your show's format. It's very in-depth and informative. I just wish there were more frequent postings, especially since there aren't any vehicle performance coverage. I enjoyed my first episode since subscribing. Keep up the great work!
The Rogue's design is a bit on the funky side, and I don't mean that in a good way. It's most attractive feature in my opinion is the price. If I was to purchase a compact SUV it'd have to be the latest Honda CRV, even if it costs more. The latest CRV is hot!

I will wait for next yr's rogue when they will have sorted out the bugs. Escape and Mercury might be pricey being that they are hybrid.
thomashm9 3 years ago

Thanks!

I like the Rogue for this styling , the CVT, and there is a FWD model. I just don't like the air vents on the dash.

Dude get the Rogue, trust me its way more interesting and exciting than the CR-V (Soccer Mom's Car) and RAV 4

this new SUV has made me think twice about going for the new CR-V I already own a 2006 CR-V and it has been excellent i haven't had any issues with it and I am very happy with it, now I wanna buy a 2008 model, should I risk it for a Rogue, or go for something I know will work perfect for me and won't give me any problems like the new CR-V

Last time I checked Nissan was already in the "compact SUV game" with the Xterra and the X-Trail.
eemanzz 4 years ago
Those are based off trucks, not cars.

The latest CRV is hot!
sournote01 4 years ago
If by hot u mean a Soccer Mom's Car, come on honestly CR-V dont even come close to how good this car looks
