Why are you holding that fish like a child. Grip the peduncle and support the ventral side. Or leave the fish in the water and undo the hook. If you are fishing for sport and then releasing, for the most part you shouldnt need to take the fish out of the water.
When you hold a fish the way you did, you are rubbing off its protective slime. Their slime protects them from illnesses Kind of ironic to hold a fish like that if you are planning on releasing it.
It is amoral to release this injured fish, and handling this fish would by in my country fish-crime, you would loose your fishing licence in my country for brutality handling with fish catched. It is beter to thow fish as soon as posble back to water or kill it imidiately. Trout is against law to hold live in net(sack). Catch and release is mad, if you dont want hurt fish, simply stop fishing. There si no way how to fish and not hurt them. Hunting isnt fun for fish, they always fight for life.
@xmicina Catch and release is mad ? In your opinion. In the UK most fishing is catch and release apart from trout and sea fishing and then many anglers still release.
@xmicina amoral?? really?? just because it's "fish-crime" in your country, doesn't mean it's "fish crime" in another. So you're saying we should just kill every fish we catch, right? unless I read that wrong...here's the thing...If all of us who fish killed/kept every fish we caught...then the fish would not repopulate...letting the small ones go or just doing catch and release gives the fish a chance to repopulate and stock the waters.
@wassermonster77 the injure would of healed and would not effect its feeding so after a while it would be nothing to the fish , so overall it was the best thing to do.
@wassermonster77 still the injure would of healed and would have not effect on the fish , so it could still feed etc... so overall i think it was the best thing to do
Hi, if you read the thread below you will see why it was neccessary to hold on tightly to the fish. Better that than dropping it on the rocks. The fish was back in the water in little over 1 minute so it was a quick catch and release......
I love when you hook into a 15-25 inch pike and another pike or musky slams the piss out of the smaller pike. I have lost so many muskys and pike reeling in smaller pike, bass, and panfish. The best I ever seen was a walleye smack a 12 inch crappie boat side, and the walleye was maybe only 20 inches long....
very true. i myself am going to buy a cradle so i dont do that as much as well. none the less at least you cared enough to let it go most ppl up here keep anything and everything... mainly asians and europeans. i dont think overfishing is in there vocabulary
I take your point and would never harm any fish deliberately, I had even considered that someone might comment on this. Though you can't really see it well in the video the trout really struggled to break free and I would have dropped it onto hard rocks had I not grabbed hold of it against my jacket. Better to loose some protective slime than seriously damage the fish or even kill it.

@chunky1194 why poor? i think he released the fish good and managed to put it gently in the waters without falling on those rocks.
MonoRacer 10 months ago
@chunky1194 it is incredibly hard to hold a trout of any sort with our gloves, they are so slippery/slimy and move alot
