  • I am not disputing you, I am just pointing out that the 110 was never designed as a "heavy fighter" as the Lightning was. Remember, the Lightning was designed as a fighter, but was incorporated in a multitude of roles. The difference between the 110 and the P-38 was the way the props rotated. The P-38's turned opposite each other making for a more stable platform. It is as a Lockheed engineer stated, " The P-38 is two super-charged engines, with a cockpit as an afterthought."

  • Look at the name of the 110, "Zestorer" (Destroyer). This aircraft was designed for bomber interceptions, not as a "heavy fighter". It was unfortunate that, like some of the other aircraft in the Luftwaffe arsenal, the 110 was used in roles that it was never designed for.

  • @jmac0414 - well you hear that a lot about German WWII planes, ill suited in roles not designed for. Yet Allied planes were used in non-planned roles and did an outstanding job of it -- P-38, Catalina, Mosquito, Beaufighter were all multi engine planes pressed into service on multiple roles, in particular the P-38 as fighter, escort, light bomber, dive bomber, long distance bomber, high altitude reconnaissance, night fighter and interceptor.

  • The 110 was designed to seek out the enemy aircraft over their (enemy) homeland hence the long range and also the name destroyer.Because of its long range it was initially used in the Battle of Britain to plug the poor endurance of the 109. However it got stuffed when met with single engined fighters. It was used in Russia as it had a better chance of survival, well initially. Where this aircraft came into its own was as a night fighter during the twilight battles over Germany with the RAF.

  • The "Destroyer" was actually a poor design and could not come anywhere near the performance of other 2 engine fighters of the time, the P-38 or British Mosquito. Goehring himself reportedly said the waste of attention on the Destroyer instead of real solutions probably cost them the air war.

  • @CaptainQueue Fat Goering was actually a preponent enthusiast of the Me-110 early in the war over the Me-109.

If not for Goering and Milch, Luftwaffe would have ruled the skies during the entire war.

  • big fucking deal, the krauts still lost the tank battle at kursk

so this flyboy bullshit is gay

  • it is a messerschmit made by him the tide was turned by russian blood and british stubborness us money comes fourth after her troops.stalingrad was were hitler lost the initiative

  • yeah, i love that plane too.

  • One of my favorite german aircrafts,it could fullfill many tasks :- )

  • I don't know what you mean by that SSWolf80 but if money makes things "right" then I would agree if you consider the WAR DEBT the USA floated to Europe rebuild (to include Germanyas well as Japan) was then forgiven.

Now we in the states we've been purchasing auto's from Germany for decades now... Mercedes, VW, BMW, Audi, plus all the Japan and Italian imports here...

    Ya' you betcha'.

  • The tide started turning in 1944 when the allies had to start paying people off to join their side. Isn't it amazing how American money makes the "right" side?

  • I guess bullsxx walks.

  • The Reds made sure the Nazi Thugs had a very unlucky time on the Eastern Front. The tide started turning Dec 5 1941 with the Battle of Moscow.

  • Brilliant aeroplane- Henschel were truly revolutionary in their designs

I love the folk's fighter- brilliant design.

  • "folk's fighter"?

  • Yes the Heinschel Volks fighter

  • @purbanegoro u mean the He-162? it was a Heinkel, not a Henschel.

  • @1987jkilla

Yes. But I am also referring to the brilliance Henschel displayed in advanced aircraft- built in modular sections of surplus materials, by semi-skilled skilled workers- to be flown by partially trained pilots- "der Salamander"

  • Very cool!
