@rr425x Yea, I can explain it very easy. The poor don't pay federal income taxes. In fact, the bottom 48% of wage earners don't pay federal income taxes. They either get it refunded to them, or even get back MORE than they paid in. We have a progressive tax structure, so they more you earn, the higher percentage of your income goes to taxes. In other words, the higher income earners are already paying their fair share, and several other people's fair share.

So the CEO, who risked all of his capital (to hire people, to design products, to market, to pay for taxes, patients, to keep everyone employed, to again, risk his own money, shouldn't be rewarded? Who is holding the workers hostage? Why did they accept the pay they do if they are unhappy? They didn't risk ANYTHING. All they did was labor.

@rr425x Yea, I can explain it very easy. The poor don't pay federal income taxes. In fact, the bottom 48% of wage earners don't pay federal income taxes. They either get it refunded to them, or even get back MORE than they paid in. We have a progressive tax structure, so they more you earn, the higher percentage of your income goes to taxes. In other words, the higher income earners are already paying their fair share, and several other people's fair share.

He spent $800 billion (closer to $2 trillion) on STIMULUS and he lost jobs. He keeps playing games with the unemployment numbers. The "participation rate" has dropped 1.7% in the last 30 months. If it were held constant, the unemployment rate would be 12%.
His programs are complete failures because he does not understand why all of the manufacturing jobs are in China and SEA and what it means to our economy.

An employee is paid to perform a specific job. That is it. They get paid whether the owner makes any money or not. They work their 40 hour week, and go home. A small business owner risks EVERYTHING when they start out, their savings, their free time, sometime even their marriage. NO 40 hour work week...NO weekends off... or paid vacation. Plus, whatever the employee pays in social security tax HAS to be matched by the owner! An employee is GUARANTEED a paycheck but a business owner is not!

That's what the CEO of Wal-Mart, my boss, gets paid every year to give speeches, talk on the phone, ride on private airplanes, and basically point at things and say 'do it'. Giving it to the government only mal-invests the capital into something less productive, less quality and by no means a profit. Plus, people making 20x more than someone else, sure, probably didn't work 20x as hard, but they probably improved society as a whole. Do you have anything made from Apple?

@ddstar Capitalism is the best system we will have until we can move to a Resource-Based/Post-Scarcity economy. But what we have right now, whether you call it crony capitalism, government collusion, corruption, etc., is working against the best interests of the people.
I love me some capitalism, but it only works when you've got good competition (not monopolies), and the government is there to make sure everybody plays fair.

So the CEO, who risked all of his capital (to hire people, to design products, to market, to pay for taxes, patients, to keep everyone employed, to again, risk his own money, shouldn't be rewarded? Who is holding the workers hostage? Why did they accept the pay they do if they are unhappy? They didn't risk ANYTHING. All they did was labor.

I did not make it to the top by myself with my own two hands, I'm standing on the shoulders of everyone else who helped me to get there- everyone who worked to make my products, everyone I hired to design them, etc.
I am not at all saying that someone who takes a risk shouldn't be rewarded- I'm saying that they are rewarding themselves disproportionately.

If they don't like it, they can act in a manner that provides a better quality job for those who work for them- namely cutting the fat from their own paychecks to make sure those who work for them can have a livable wage. None of these arguments reasonably establish why any CEO deserves a salary above perhaps $1 million/year. To put this in perspective, that means they would earn in one year what someone on minimum wage would earn in their entire lifetime.

An employee making 15k a year is usually paid that because they can be replaced very easily and have no skills. Also there are very few minimum wage jobs out there. I am still amazed when people say they cant find jobs since there are 10-12 dollar an hour jobs everywhere!

I work with people who make this, and I cannot tell you how many people who have literally had to choose between medicine and food during some months. However to be a CEO requires someone who is a great businessman and proven leader among many other attributes that are hard to find....they are considered the best in their field and they make huge sacrifices. Also, please don't impinge my work ethic. I worked 100 hours these past two weeks because I was the only cart pusher at my store and they needed people to cover. I could have stayed home and did the minimum possible; but they needed help and I provided it.
