From the Wikipedia article about the Replacements: "The video for "Bastards of Young" featured nothing more than a single shot of a speaker, while "The Ledge" (which MTV would not play due to lyrical themes that explored suicide) featured the band sitting around in a room with chairs and a sofa doing nothing in particular."
I think the original wave of hardcore bands didn't really make videos because they weren't mainstream enough and would get shown. They were also poor and couldn't get finance.

its hard to say, i would reccomend listening to their super early stuff (split with haymaker).
my favorite is the Two Snakes EP, Baiting EP and Hidden World.
people who jump right into the chemistry of common life usually dont like them, it makes more sense to listen to them in a somewhat linear order and hear how much they have changed in 8 years.
Such simple guitar chords and a drum beat, with a very angry man shouting in the background, this is the stuff I am talkin about! Allllllrrrrriiiiiiigggggggghhhht!
