  • Who saw Clarence Cleamons.

  • The Boss looks like an undercover cop leading a Band of pimps here...God bless the 70's :)

  • Clarence's suit is the fuckin tits!

  • 2:20 made me sad.

  • gotta love it

  • This is their best performance...the talent they had/have is unreal

  • fuck these guys are cool

  • Comment removed

  • can you listen to this and not dance, wow it is crazy energy!

  • I thank you for uploading this...you beat me to it..lol!..it's an Essential Bruce and The E street Band concert at their best!

  • FELIZ CUMPLEAÑOS BOSS ERES LO MAXIMO eaeaeaeaea SEEEEE

  • You have some great videos of BS, did you film them?

  • happy birthday bossman

  • Ultimate version. Never heard any rendition of Tenth ave. that has beaten this one.

  • I was at this concert .. fookin awesome

  • Clarence looks amazing in that white suit, what a fucking cool dude! RIP Big Man. That energy in his music is gonna live on.

  • RIP Clarence

  • Sorry, his voice is too scratchy for me to enjoy this.

  • 1 2 3 4! Wooooooooooooow!!!! Absolutly fantastic!

  • bruce is coming!

  • I wish i had been born for this concert! Simply FABULOUS.

  • simply brilliant - what can you say?

  • Little Steven is such a good guitar player and his prowess is really displayed in this song, it is a shame with the bigger sound of the band now a days it can be hard to pick out his great rhythm playing

  • Saw them during this tour in 1975 in Mobile, Alabama. They played for 4 hours with no opening band. Still one of the best concerts I've ever been to!

  • These guys make me want to give up performing and only perform more, at the same time. God, what an unbelievable band!

  • such hipsters

  • The eight people who voted thumbs down on this video must "REALLY" hate good music! Geez ...

  • The first Bruce song I ever heard. A rock DJ in Denver played it every afternoon at precisely the same time, as I was driving home from school. I've been hooked ever since!

  • The E Street Band at its best.

Better than the Born in the USA tour.

And I say that as a big Nils Lofgren fan.

(I grew up in Montgomery County, Maryland, and we followed Nils' career all the way from Grin, to Neil, to Bruce.)

  • Not to take anything away from Bruce, and what he had to do with the performance of the band, but what a tight, fucking band, E Street.

  • I'm so glad somebody caught this on film.

At the time (1975), I didn't understand what the fuss was about.

Born to Run never grabbed me. I didn't hear this song until 1980. And it grabbed me. And seeing this video, I understand what the fuss was about.

  • Maybe James Brown compares. Maybe.

  • He's so much better as a standup singer than he ever was as a guitar player.

Or songwriter. This was his best song, and he did it excruciatingly early in his career.

Would love to hear him cover Walter Egan's "Magnet and Steel". Whenever I hear Egan doing it, I imagine Bruce.

  • @brianallancobb he wasnt a good songwriter are you joking?

  • @lztenyearsgonelz Didn't say that. Said he was a better singer than he was a songwriter.

But yes, there are plenty better songwriters than he. Many of them can't sing a lick, though, and his singing made many of the songs he wrote better than he wrote them.

The only singers I know of to cover his tunes were Manfred Mann (Blinded By The Light) and Patti Smith (Because the Night).

  • Sure, while there are some songs that don't need Bruce's guitar playing, you'd be crazy not to love "..Saint In the CIty" from this very show. That little string bending thing he did at the end of "Good Rockin' Tonight" (where all the other E Street Band members stop playing) on the '78 tour always killed me.

  • Bruce is so much better as a stand-up singer than as a guitar player he should never have picked up a guitar. Or as a songwriter.

Would have loved to hear to hear him do a cover of (the otherwise inspid Walter Egan song(, "Magnet and Steel".

He would have killed the airwaves...

  • This is so much better than anything done in the last 35 years.

Please, God, shuffle me off this mortal coil. :-)

  • when the change was made uptown and the big man joined the band LOL

    Big Man absolutely the best!!!

  • Interesting relationship.

You hear Bruce crying out "Clarence" and then "Big Man!"

Had a relationship in jail like that. Had a big friend who could (and can never) do any wrong.

  • great seeing Bruce lead off the Super Bowl show with this classic.

  • SPRINGSTEEN is the best who can play as him nobody can

  • "There were giants on the earth in those days..." Genesis 6:4

  • ahh...the 1970's. a time when it was ok for an entire band to wear pimp hats.

  • springsteen is a great musician but hes not my favorite personally but i agree what the hell is this song about?

  • From the coastline to the city all the little pretties raise their hand... fu****g classic!!

  • what the hell is this song about..?..somebodies heater going out..?

  • I really like Born To Run played live, without the Wall of Sound production. Gives them room to breath, they're even more exciting... Still love the album versions, don't get me wrong, though. Plus, I love that hat!

  • The only problem with bruce springsteens music is I can only listen to one track at a time. The next hour is cut out for me because i want to hear it ALL. Everyday.

    Long live the boss.

  • that is so true. my ipod has over a hundred boss songs and once i turn it on turning it off is so hard.

  • BEST song intro ever

  • This a awesome video!

  • One of the most epic openings to a song.

  • I, too, was Born to Run.

  • RockRampage74, your only 15. You may still get that chance to see Bruce live and I hope you get to experience that for sure. I saw him when I was 16 and had to work (mowing grass, shoveling snow, et al..) to buy my ticket. Just keep on trying. You have the drive, now go out and see the Boss!! BTW, thanks for posting!!

  • BUT: THIS performance in THIS time, when hippies were deadly hit and crumbling all over and punk was on its eve, WELL, gentlemen: THAT WAS cool!!!!

  • I introduced myself to Bruce, because my dad is a little restriced in musical views and my mom, she'll even say it herself, doesn't ahve a musical bone in her body. I'm not going to go into the age thing, but I am 15. Bruce is a great inspiration as a singer/songwriter to me, but Roy Bittan comes as the greatest inspiration to me. As a pianist myself, it didn't take lone to learn Jungleland, and I play it constantly. I wish I could see Bruce but my family doesn't have the money. Youre lucky guys

  • Yeah, how comes one with a not too rich family background like Springsteen can take the balls outta his audience with as well not too rich family backgrounds? Is that called a working man's blues? I call that dream-selling, not more ...

  • @RockRampage74 I am just a view years younger than Bruce and live in a country where he is not that well known (yes, it's possible!) and have really explored his work during the last year. I am a writer (fiction) and I find his life and work a great inspiration. His music brings a lot of positive energy into my life which I find I can channel into my own work. Thank you, Bruce!

  • Dude I'm 14 and I fucking love Bruce! My dad brought me to him in Dublin!

  • Now, being 14 there arent many springsteen fans i know

But when my dad offers me a flight to see him, i really dont care

That and hampden are the 2 greatest gigs of my life

  • So young, so skinny - and so damn good!

  • and so damn hot!!!

  • I dare anyone to not move a muscle to this one!! Saw him the same year this one was made! Seen them all but nothing compares to the boss in 76!!

  • this was 75

  • I'm 21 and I can tell you music sucks compared to Springsteen.. Not lookin' in the right places my ass. I'm in college and when my buddies and I get ready to party all night. there is no Kanye West on the stereo. It's Springsteen. TEN TEN TEN TENTH AVENUE FREEEZE OUTTTT.

  • @rloebe34

Bravo. Freezeout is one of the party songs.

    Bless you, young' 'uns

    You keep my faith alive.

It's the only Bruce song I've kept alive through bad marriages (that Lake O. girl) and Super Bowl appearances (he still did Freezeout -- he knows it's his only real song)..

  • He is blowing me away again.

  • im 14 and let me tell u that bands today suck and springsteen and co. from the 80s are what real music is

  • So is the attitude of young people today. If you're not finding good music that is current, you're not looking in the right places.

  • @dunnnerr

It's true to a certain extent, however I don't of any current band that are as great as Springsteen and The E Street band,The Stones, The Beatles, Zeppelin, The Band.Arcade Fire and Wilco come close but there's still something missing

  • Arcade Fire, and Wilco are two great examples. Check out The Gaslight Anthem if you're looking for some great music, and some great modern song writing. Even Bruce loves these guys

  • Rutgers you give me hope for the youth today

  • @Rutgers3795

And there I was worrying about the next generation.

    What's up with music today?

Maroon Five sometimes seems to get it, but does anybody else?

I lived in Italy for four years, and Mexico for two, and they still have melody and lyricism in their songs, something I don't think is present anymore in American pop.

  • @brianallancobb Bands like Modest Mouse are not bad...

  • @Rutgers3795 Right there with you man!

  • @Rutgers3795 14 and a TRUE rock fan..very nice! You are a rare find and a breath of fresh air. This 37 year old thanks you..haha

  • @Rutgers3795 15 and I think the same thing man since the day I was born (literally) i was listening to him

  • @Rutgers3795

Same here 14, my dad introduced me to this music.

  • @Rutgers3795 I'm the same age and I feel the exact same way. Sometimes I wish I could go back in time.

  • @Rutgers3795 it dosent matter if your 14 or 40 or 400 good music is good music. keep it real.

  • @genez0r yep, and this is what I call heartfelt music. The best the US has produced

  • Im only 17 so i have been brought up almost realising that most bands are shit live but i went to see Bruce Springsteen in Dublin in July 2009 and he was unreal, he is the only person that i have ever heard where i like the live version more than the the actual recording on quite a lot of songs, like this one for example and Dancing in the Dark in Barcelona 2002, He DESTROYS any shit i hear today haha

  • YES. his live version of this song is SO good, even the build up to the start is absolutley amazing

  • this is so amazing i love this concert i wish i could download it to my ipod

  • buy the dvd then

  • dude you can! they have it on itunes! the album name is Hammersmith Odeon, London '75 (Live)

    enjoy! :)

  • I wish I was at this concert.

  • shit, man, this song was the 'B' side to Born to Run ,as a 'single'. If you don't know what a single is ; look up 'vinyl 45's' on wikipedeia.

I'm sure there are over 1,000 youtube videos of Bruce live. This performace is probably in the top 10.

I used to pay 25 cents to play this 'B' side on the juke box when we were playing foose-ball at the tavern in 1976.

  • I am 47 bruce has been my passion since I was 14 and my big brother brought home his albums bruce shall reign FOREVER!!!!!!!

  • I'm 21 and I bought the rising, devil and dust, magic and working on a dream, althought it's not very common in people of my age. I think it's a beast

  • well his last 4 albums went straight to number 1, but people are always gonna buy newer artists music over old ones, sadly

  • I totally didn't know that! I stopped following the scene years ago. That's nice to hear, and very interesting.

  • And how could you not love this man?

  • heroes there´re a lot but ``BOSS´´ ONLY THERE´S ONE

  • Saw them last year and they're still smokin'

  • same with me!

  • The legend begins, actually it had a good start in Jersey but this is kind of like the comming out party for the rest of the world. Bruce says of this time, that we were just being born as a band. They were/are so good. He sounds as good yesteryear as he does today, unbelievable.

  • Best live concert I've ever heard. The E Street band was on top of the world that night. So much soul and energy. LOVE IT!

  • I've never seen such a sheer display of energy in any live music such as this in my life. This is the best music I've ever seen.

  • ha, yeah, I don't think they're into it. And they're definately not having a good time!!!

  • -->?

    excuse me?

  • You're exaggerating. I've told you a million times not to exaggerate.

  • @coupelikeacaravan I agree

  • @coupelikeacaravan

Exactly. There's loads of Bruce and the E street band out there, but the sheer...edge..attack...vitality- call it what you will- make this Hammersmith series (thanks glammer, and booo Sony who keep trying to take it off) one of the greatest performances I've ever seen.

  • Congratulations Bruce! You must be one of the best looking 60 year old men in the world!! Not to mention your talent!!!

  • roy bittan is a marvel of modern science

  • Nobody does it like the BOSS!

  • this is my favorite Springsteen song of all time...

  • I wish I have been there, one of the best shows of springsteen ever!

  • when you see Bruce hat on like he is in 1993 Pearl Jam band rockin out .... peeeps dont get it thats the beauty of you tube it brings it back to life @!

  • man, just listen to how great they sound live.

  • 3:31........ no one yelps like that, maybe james brown........... cant beat old school bruce

  • yep and just like 1:40- 1:42

  • if this doesn't put a smile on your face and make you move, nothing will. LOVE IT!

  • What an amazing concert. and a superb track. I would have been there had I not been only 5 months old!!

  • Love you Boss! :)

  • a lot of tempo fluctuations

  • From which year is that performance?

  • sorry didn't see the info...

  • 1975, it stands in the information ! : )

  • 1975

  • The boss just pulled a james brown at 3:30 !

  • This is really interesting. In this video, it's Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. Today, it is BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN and the e street band.. This is really great, and I agree, this blows away the version on Born to Run.

  • no lol

back then they used to only promote it as BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN.

its nowadays that they give the E Street band credit

  • yeah! i think the piano player and the sax player are really great

  • oh my god, THIS is rockfuckingroll not the crap they send out nowadays

  • i was listening to this song earlier (album version), and its amazing how so much more energy always comes out live than it does on the record. which is really what makes a band great....thus, E Street.

  • I really don't like any of his new stuff..not that its not good stuff, but its not classic bruce..its accoustic and mellow, and the lyrics really aren't that complex and or poetic. Thats why he disappoints me..but I can only imagine how hard it must be to live up to the best albums of your career

  • yeah, after his early stuff, it can get sorta hard to take the new stuff as it is, without comparing it and all. it turns into a whole "yeah its good...but its not [insert classic bruce song here." but i think that really applies to Working on a Dream more than anything. I loved the Rising and Magic, and I still love the fact that none of his records have the same feel--they're all pretty unique.

  • Amazing

  • quite possibly the coolest song of alltime... no band plays like this!

  • This song gives me goosebumps...all his old shyt does...damn bruce what happened??

  • right on man

  • his new stuffs good too man

  • 1:09 makes me bite my tongue...

    DY-NO-MITE!

  • Music of passion...

  • he's just so cool in this video.. the moves, the screams, the clothes.. its awesome

  • Agreed

  • standing tall

  • fuck Dave Marsh

  • Long live the Boss!

Curious: do you prefer Bruce's music live or the album version?

I prefer live ones- they're always different. Sure, sometimes they're unclear, but I think they're worth it (most of the times). However, I do prefer album versions on some songs, such as The Promised Land.

  • unclear?? yeah go to a show this year when he comes back to the states, and u tell me if its unclear

  • I mean, if you try to record it and then post it on youtube. Otherwise live ones kick studio-recorded one's ass.

  • ohhh

  • I was at a concert where he did a brilliant version of Promised Land with an extended harmonica and sax solo, miles better than the album.

  • the promised land, off his live 75-85 box set is the best version ive ever heard.

  • this is about the most soul i've ever heard outside of motown and muscle shoals.

  • I really love the Boss' hat

  • so amazing. i watch this once a week at least. sit down, have a about 9 beers and fucking rock out.

  • You can totally tell... 3:31. I've only heard James Brown, Wilson Pickett and The Boss hit that yelp-like noise... SO GOOD!

  • To me,the heart and thumping of the band is Drum, Organ, Bass and Piano. The brain and the soul come from Bruce, and the Body (the part that completes the others) is the Guitar and Sax.

  • you can tell bruce is inspired by james brown

  • Comment removed

  • I remember starting to sport pirate loops and a wool beanie in the early 90's and my friends telling me I was cutting edge, which I replied "No, I'm just trying to look like the Boss".

  • Music can`t be better than this !!!!!!!!!

  • thats b/c it isnt. this is the best show ever put on by any band anywhere any time

  • Much, much better than the album version.

  • Comment removed

  • I've worshipped Bruce for so long. I'm 19 and my band and I just cut an EP of all orignials but I had to include a cover of "Lost in The Flood" as a tribute to my hero, the one and only Boss. I'd love to get anyone's opinion on it. Search Lost in the Flood by Bad Magic

  • Love this video, thanks for posting it!

    Bruce is one sexy man!

  • aaww he's so young in this vid! lol

love him! love the song! love the band!

I particularly love the sax part and bruce's hat!

    :-D

  • if your the kind of person who likes jimi hendrix and all that then pretend this song never happened because bruce doesnt even play guitar in this one

  • You'll be lucky if you're in half the shape of what springsteen is now... jerk off

  • Big Man is the fuckin best sax player I've ever seen!

  • You can tell this is the 70s: just dig all those panama hats!

  • awesome performer. awesome song

  • Amazing! This song makes me happy! IS ANYBODY OUT THERE ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!

  • He´s still the greatest!!!!!!
