    Perhaps then one needs to look at changing the matrix a bit - adding larger(10K+ufd) capacitors across the rows and columns would give you a bit of extra life time if all LEDs are used. Won't work if a mix of LEDs and incandescent of course.

  • It would seem simpler to delete the transistor delay circuit and instead put the47ufd cap directly across the LED - the LED and cap charge together through the 330R resistor, and the cap will discharge through the LED. You do need to add a blocking diode ahead of the resistor otherwise the capacitor will discharge through the other lights in the circuit. Remember that this is in series parallel with a number of other bulbs (LED or Incandescent).

  • Great thinking Jerri. I've often thought about what would be involved to remedy the flicker but never took any time to experiment with it. Your circuit looks promising. If it could be produced cheaply enough overseas in the correct bulb packages it would really improve the pinball/LED dilemma. Thanks for sharing this. Steve G
