  • The Honey gate (valve) on the extractor is improperly positioned. The screws should be to the left and right, not top and bottom of the gate, that will prevent the honey from pouring over the screws and prevent the gate from accidentally opening wide as happened.

  • @Rattlerjake1 correct, this was a borrowed extractor, and i didn't want to change the valve in case it broke while tightening, i pointed it out to the owner, eric.

  • Great Video! You guys are awesome!

  • why don't you just spin it the other way instead of turning them

  • @buddoyr you have to flip them so both sides can face out , thanks for watching, eric.

  • Do you have to clean the extractor every time you harvest?

  • @Actorguy0330 yes, you have to clean the extractor, is full of honey that's been flying around. fun to clean up though.. eric - GardenFork

  • Great video and cute dogs. I love labs so much. I have two myself.

  • Very informative videos thanks for sharing..

  • @caddyj1 thx for watching. you can subsribe to our show to get all our beekeeping, cooking, diy shows. we also have a play list of Beekeeping shows on our YouTube Channel. thx, eric.

  • Nice video - and I laughed at the camera woman reaching in with the smoker. My wife is official smoker lady when we're messing with the hives. It's nice to have someone keeping the girls honest when your backs turned :)

  • @samsonje thx, it really helps to have two people work hives. eric.

  • at 1:12 was that a queen cell on the bottom of that frame?I am still learning or trying to learn as much as I can by reading and watching videos

  • @tappakeggaday1 probably, bees will sometimes make queen cells and just leave them empty. not sure why.

  • @tappakeggaday1 queen cells happen, sometimes hives build queen cells that they leave empty. not sure why. check out our beekeeping playlist on our channel page for all our beekeeping videos. new one posts next week. eric.

  • Haha their mugging bees

  • one of my favorites...

  • dude that is totally awesome, I love how fat your frames are!

  • great video short striaght to the point and clear filming thank you for the upload

  • Great video!

  • Dogs do like honey after all :) I love your video

  • ive wanted to try harvesting honey for a while now but its difficult because im always moving around. Question though, did just those 4 frames make all that honey!?

  • Dogs like honey!

  • You ALWAYS start with a pulling a frame NEXT TO EITHER WALL of the hive. Ask your teacher who wrote ''Beekeeping For Dummies''. :)

  • ok fine, but why? best for all of us to learn if you'd tell us. thx.

  • Comment removed

  • i've learned from a beekeeper - viewer that you remove one of the outer frames first so there is room then to pull out the inner frames without damaging the queen.

  • I am planning my first hives for spring of 2010...your video was very inspiring! Thanks.

  • I really enjoy all of your videos. How do you make time to do all of this? It looks like you have a fairly relaxed lifestyle. I'm jealous! lol!

  • I would really love to see the wax get used BY ERIC. Jump in and make some candles!

  • I've always wanted to try bee keeping, your sooooo tempting me, lol. Is there any certain time of the year that is better to start?

As for the knife, I wonder if a putty knife would work better. You would still have to heat it, but cheaper than $80 and would likely fit better in the frame for you.

  • the serrated bread knife works quite well.

you can only start beekeeping in the spring, but you must order your hives and bees in the winter before, and start reading up on how to do it all. we'll be posting a few more videos on Beginning Beekeeping

  • YAY A NEW VIDEO!

  • Man thats some good lookin honey....

  • Five Stars!!

  • thx again for the stars. eric.

  • I would not have thought that there would have been that much honey.

  • we were suprised as well. and the stuff tastes amazing. thanks for watching.

  • interesting! I love honey but on the other hand I hate bees..

  • i think many people confuse honeybees with yellow jackets, who are very aggressive and sting a lot. honeybees only sting when their hive is threatened. opening their hive is a threat to them, hence i get stung sometimes. thx for watching, eric.
