Am I the only person who would watch this show on ESPN? It's funny, it has the feel of a reality television show with audience involvement, and it forces the viewer to imagine what is happening which is always a good thing.
Hell, they have poker. Thats as much a sport as tabletop rpgs are. lol
Ouf ... I think the thing which puts me off finding a group of people to play D&D with is the worry that they'll be like some of the people in the comments here ... more obsessed with the rules being absolutely 100% obeyed rather than having epicly awesome and hilarious fun like the PAX guys.
Coming back to this having listened to the podcasts now I think Binwin got a bit of a bum rap over the whole 'dissolving in acid' thing. Ok so he roleplayed a bit of deceit and pursued vengeance, but they would have ended up in that fight anyway, and it was Aeofel that got all oath of enmity target-fixated on the Ambershard guy, split from the party and chased him into the acid pit. That said the roleplaying they do here is very cool and makes for a better story, and that's probably the point.
Since the camera isn't on him all of the time, how do we know he DIDN'T roll to see if she held on? You can see him folding dice quite a bit before he says she takes acid damage.
God, that apology moment makes me tear up every time. I seriously get all watery-eyed and feel an ache in my heart. That is some delicious roleplaying.
One thing to consider is that there was supposed to be a panel going on after this so they were pressed for time. So that's probably why they were lenient on the rules. Also, sometimes its fine, I think, to conveniently forget the rules for the sake of everyone having a good time. Seriously though, Citrine falling into the acid and dying was pretty sick and made most everyone happy.

@glrebirth9 I didn't say it wasn't awesome. I just said all the rules lawyers would be celebrating that Chris did forget it, while simultaneously pulling their hair out for the same reason.
@glrebirth9 Chris is a good DM. He knows that sometimes, the rules gotta move so that fun can be had. Sure, there are times the DM has to say "Nope, can't do that, sorry." But there are times when the rules have to let the players have some fun.
@RathxWolf He forgot about the dwarf racial and when a creature is forced off a ledge like that they're suppose to make a saving throw to avoid falling. But all in all it was epic and I would have done the same as Chris and ignored all those rules..
@zameda92 Maybe he rolled the saving off screen so we couldn't see it? I don't know. Does Sun strike slide the target only 1 square? If so, then she wouldn't have needed to do a saving throw at all via the dwarf racial.
@zameda92 Citrine and her minions are all Duergar. They don't get the racial that stops forced movement. That said, it is true that she should have gotten a saving throw to avoid falling off the edge. THAT said, any good DM should know to ignore little things like that when the PCs are doing awesome stuff.

It was an awesome moment for both Omin and Aeofel to see the dwarf fall into the acid.
Can you imagine if Chris stood up and said, "Sorry, you can't do that- the rules say..."
It's more fun just for him to let it slide, or conveniently forget it.
