why the hell would someone wanna go that fast and not see another car going the same speed infrontof you. I mean someone in real life driving a car that fast on the autobond would slam on the brakes or steer away.
its a crash test you idiot! they want to find out the strength of the cars and how much pressure the bodies and interiors and travelers can take..for that to work in full captivity, its a good idea to have a straight on collision!..to find out whether its safe for morons like you to drive..
@copymaser20 : This kind of crashes kill in my land over 2000!!!! people every year ( the most of Europe) because on an open road between two towns there is no separation between the traffic and on coming traffic... And chances are ( > 80 %) you wont steer away to avoid in time the crash ...
Hm...well...they both were at apx. 110 km/h...that means the hit each other with 220 km/h!!!! And modern cars WOULDN'T have a better chance....no car has a chance at 220 Km/h...and everyone would brake or get into a field or something before it gets to this...
i know a way you can prevent accidents. as john muir says in how to keep your volkswagen alive: "If we all constantly drive as if we were strapped to the front of the car like Aztec sacrifices so we'd be the first thing hit, there'd be a helluva lot less accidents"
No! It"s not the same like hitting a wall at 120 Miles per hour because both cars share the energy. You can prove that if you want on a physics internet site.
Volvo maintained most of the compartment cage, whereas he said the BMW had crumpled all the way through. People probably would have lived in the Volvo, but certainly not the driver.
looks sort of like the grey car went through the red one... from one veiw at least. Thats scary that the type of car you buy might eventually end or save your life! even though ur driving it...
Is this from Top Gear? I love that show, and that looks like one of the guys on it. I need to find the video where the other guy tries to destroy a Porsche 911.
I agree with the idea that the crash is similar to one car hitting a solid wall as long as both vehicles where similar in weight. If you had one vehicle that was one half the mass of the 940, like a ford punto or a rover mini, the results would have been drastically different. The smaller vehicle would still have to absorb half the energy of the entire collision, as if the smaller car was going 90 into a brick wall and the 940 going 30 into a brick wall.
Sigh. Two at 60 is the same as one at 60 into a wall. That stationary wall will push the car back with the same force it hit it at, the same as getting hit by a similar vehicle at the same speed.
If both cars were traveling at 60 MPH when they both collided with each other, then that would be equivalent to one car crashing into a stationary object at 120 MPH. I do not believe there is any car capable of allowing the passengers to survive in that kind of collision.
You are wrong! A head on collision does not mean the impact is as strong as the combined speed. In a head on crash the forces and the damage to the vehicles is actually the same as if each vehicle were to hit a solid concrete wall. Anyone who doubts this logic need only imagine a collision between two identical vehicles, where a very large sheet of tissue paper across the road barely moves as the vehicles collide precisely at that point. How can that sheet of tissue cause twice the damage?
1. You've essentially said the same thing I've said.
2. Two vehicles colliding head on, both travelling at 60 MPH, does approximate a single car collision into a solid object at 120 MPH. The higher the speed, actual or combined, the greater the inertial energy that must be displaced through a collision.
The reason the tissue paper survives is that the vehicles impart each other's energy through it and into the other vehicle. Each vehicle imparts it's energy into the other vehicle at the same time. You are pretty much fucked in a 60MPH headon into a stationary object anyways, especially in vehicles that old, so another car at 60MPH replacing that stationary object only doubles thine problems.
This isn't true hitting a solid stationary object at 60 mph is the same as hitting a similarly sized vehicle, with similar speed, head on. It has to do with the conservation of momentum.
The kind of collision we saw is what would be described as a frontal offset. This kind of collision is actually much worse than a full frontal collision. This is because the impact energies are being acted upon on only about half of the vehicle's structure instead of the full structure bearing the brunt.
