Not saying that we shouldn't conserve water, but the amount of water we use in homes is NOTHING compared to the amount of water used for industry and agriculture. Taking navy showers isn't going to help much (until you're talking about your water bill).

Good video. I made my kids take Navy showers when they were growing up. They take a fast shower now, the main reason was for hot water conservation so that last 1 or 2 people werent stuck with only cold water if they were last to shower. They make shower heads with an on off button so there is no temp adjusting necessary.

You'll still waste a decent amount constantly having to balance out the temperature of the water EVERY time you have to turn it back on.
In fact, it is entirely possible that doing this method could increase the amount of water simply due to this.
In addition, your claims of saving thousands of gallons and hundreds of dollars are baseless. You cannot make such a claim without comparing water usage with a meter and cost in comparison to normal showers during the same times.

@phuzzman The total amount of H2O on the planet does not change, but the amount of drinkable, fresh water supplies does. Right now, there are several places where we get our fresh water from reserves that we deplete faster than they replenish (see Ogallala Aquifer).
If this doesn't matter, than why do we ever have water shortages? It's because the local supply of water becomes low.
And anyway, you can still cut down on your water bill with navy showers still.

Ships take the the water and potabalize it. But potabilization plants are extremely expensive. There are several places that have them, but since they are extremely expensive, there aren't alot.

Used to, my carrier makes 400,000 gallons per day, about 80 gallons per person. I take 10 minute showers every day underway and we never run low on water. We get of that from sea water. When these other commenters preach about lower local supply, what we need to focus on is expanding distillation and irrigation technologies; not preaching to the masses how they should live their lives. Free-market, innovative solutions; not population control and behavior modification folks.....

Some people work in really nasty environments (oil, grease, other chemicals) and showering this way would never get you clean. I work 7 days almost every week of the year and come home with grease, oil, and other stuff on me every day. I have to SCRUB my hair and my arms every night. While remodeling my bathroom several years ago I installed a pad in my shower in front of the shower head. When you step on the pad the shower head turns on at a comfortable temperature.(Have your Water heater as close as possible and wrap your hot water pipes in insulating foam) When you step off it turns off. This pad can be turned on and off by a switch just outside the shower. The shower works normally also for other purposes. If you have any do it yourself ability this is fairly easy to do.
No one actually dislikes the other branches. We all respect each others service and commend them for it. However, branch competition is what makes our military great. When you have pride in your unit or you want to beat the other guys you work harder. If you were in the service you would understand. I respect all service, and I am a brother of all servicemen... but that doesn't mean that my Army isn't the best branch. Hooah!

i like this vid. navy showers are a good idea i think.
though with hair as thick as mine, it takes so long of having the water running to get my hair wet all the way through, that compared to THAT, the amount of water i would save by navy showering would be negligible to the point of being irrelevant!

While remodeling my bathroom several years ago I installed a pad in my shower in front of the shower head. When you step on the pad the shower head turns on at a comfortable temperature.(Have your Water heater as close as possible and wrap your hot water pipes in insulating foam) When you step off it turns off. This pad can be turned on and off by a switch just outside the shower. The shower works normally also for other purposes. If you have any do it yourself ability this is fairly easy to do.

No one actually dislikes the other branches. We all respect each others service and commend them for it. However, branch competition is what makes our military great. When you have pride in your unit or you want to beat the other guys you work harder. If you were in the service you would understand. I respect all service, and I am a brother of all servicemen... but that doesn't mean that my Army isn't the best branch. Hooah!

I agree with the showering method.
The Prophet Muhammad would perform what is called "ablution" with what is equivalent to 1 glass of water (called in Arabic: 1 mudd).
And he would take a full shower, with 4 to maximum 5 mudds.
This is not due to lack of water, but due to the belief that water should not be wasted, and for other beneficial reasons (like what you stated in your video).

Al, I just tried your method of showering, except without video taping it and putting it on the internet. It's great! The soap stays on longer, leaving the skin feeling softer and cleaner. I'll be paying the water company a little less and conserving natural resources, while still being able to run for President! Warshington here I come!
