Great song by a great banjo picker! I love me some Wade Ward! I'm more of a towney but I certainly have a lot of respect for farming and self reliance. Good luck with your farm. Where at in the country are you from?
Really? I live in Manchester, CT. Have you ever been to the Griswold Inn? I go there sometimes on Mondays for Sea Shanty night. I have friends in East Haddam right across the river from you.
I thought so! I talked to you a bit via PM's way back when I first started this channel, a couple of years ago I think. I remember you asking me about the Griswold Inn, but I don't think its actually in the town of Griswold. I'm down in the south-east corner of CT, actually right on the line between Griswold and Voluntown, about 10 minutes from RI.
The goat yawning at the end was funny...lol. What are highlanders like? Do they have good personality? Can they be milked? Do you have Jersey studs? Cute farm
Thanks. The Highlanders are great, very friendly if they get regular attention. Much more mellow than the Jerseys. My Jerseys escape whenever they can, but the Highlanders don't get out unless you leave the gate wide open for them. They were originally considered a dual-purpose breed, bred for milk and meat, but modern breeding practices are focused mainly on meat. I don't know if you can still milk them or not, but I want to try it when I start having calves of my own.
I got all my Jerseys as bull calves to raise for meat. I don't have any females, but I have raised and sold one bull, and have another young bull too. The rest are steers. I haven't made a video of them yet, but I also have a pair of Brown Swiss that I'm training as oxen. They are great animals too, very calm and friendly. How is Pitambar?
Your Scottish Highland Bull is beautiful. And I really love the banjo playing by Wade Ward. That's so cute the goat in the hammock, and looks like it's singing too.
Thanks. The bull really looks handsome now that he's a little more grown up (now about 16 months, was about 6 months when the picture was taken). The black heifer in the pictures just became old enough to join him in the pasture last week. The goat grew up into a big stinky billy goat, but we still let him have the run of the farm.
I really enjoyed having cows and especially the new calves. Fed them with a bucket with the rubber teet on the front. They always smell so sweet. Wonderful farm you have.
great video, thanks
