  • why ya even talkin about straight edge fugazi aint got shit to do with that. your thinkin of minor threat.

  • Comment removed

  • really nice edit

  • awesome fugazi <3

  • @eddiehellboy people who can't accept anything that doesn't fit into their narrow world view = fucking useless idiots

  • @jek21 That can also go for people who are "straight edge"...just saying

  • @Boomoutgothelights It can go for anyone.

  • @eddiehellboy why? is it because we choose not to do drugs or drink alcohol. not all straight edge kids go around preaching it like its a religion. if you drink and smoke around me i could care less its your choice to do that stuff and my choice not to.

  • @eddiehellboy That's a lie!I'm a homo,and I'm not straight edge.What's wrong with any of these,anyway?I don't feel wrong about any of my choices O..o

  • Really great band. They will always have a special place in my iPod.

  • i am starting now to believe they are the best band in the world, keep hearing great tunes that were used on all my old school bmx and skate vids ...amazing energy

  • Nice edit

  • One of the greatest bands ever...

  • El video es de la peli "Instrument"

  • Brian Barker wrote "Straight Edge" not Ian.

  • @Ralelen It's Brian BAKER and anyway, Ian wrote it, not Brian.

  • i really think the beauty of this band is that they gave you the opportunity to make a CHOICE. never force fed ideas or ideologies...there arent bands like this anymore

  • @mihalusj Well they had, arguably, a huge influence on GY!BE who assumed an identity with no apparent definition. Amazing bands! And now GY!BE are reuniting (for who knows how long), so we may have hope again! :)

  • I think the random people in this video were standing in line in New York for a Fugazi show in 89 or something...wonder where they are now

  • break fugazi CD: End Hits

  • @mostrooop thanx for the info even though its not directed to me.

  • what song and/or album is this from

  • it doesnt matter what any of you guys say does it change anything? take what drug you like but youre still gunna die like the rest of us.

  • I am straight edge. I don't give a fuck what you do.

  • Siempre impresionantes!!

  • Hey,drugs make the man,not the music.

  • I want to do drugs all the time. Fuck straight edge people. Don't fucking tell me how to live my life. And fuck your thumbs down as well. Stick your thumb up your ass.

  • Im not fuckin' straight edge! Im smokin' kind-bud as I type. What the Hell you talkin' about!

  • I was supporting what you said about drugs making the man not the music. I was shouting out to all the straight edgers out there.

  • Righty-O-Man!! Pass a lude,dude!

  • Straight edge is about choosing not to take drugs, not telling people what to do, so take a step off your soapbox.

  • Want to arm wrestle over it?

  • ok, but make sure you inject your roids up and pop your speed pills because it will give you an edge.

  • @RubenKrakenable i meet these cats before 13 s and I LOVE DRUGS

  • @RubenKrakenable my bad ur reply isnt as my high mind saw earlier, all love

  • @RubenKrakenable I'm straight edge and I approve this message.

  • @theghostsofgiants I can't say I'm Str8 edge, but I also approve this message

  • @RubenKrakenable the first straight edge person who doesn't have their morals rammed up their ass. do your thing don't press on others you got the right idea!

  • @RubenKrakenable forgive me for asking , but what has straight edge got to do with fugazi??..wasn't that a 'minor threat' ethos from the 80's??..I don't ever remember Fugazi championing the straight edge thing...

  • @jaytv777 My comment was a response to someone who felt they were being oppressed by straight edge. YT lays out the history of comments in a stupid way so it ends up looking like a random war cry for straight edge, but the original comment is down there.. somewhere. The soapbox comment was for both sides.

  • @RubenKrakenable ahhh..now I geddit!..no offence intended just crossed wires! :)

  • @RubenKrakenable Yeah but you still get to brag that you're better than everyone because you've never smoked, drank, or done drugs.

  • Why are you talking about this in a Fugazi vid commentary field? I never got this. Yeah, Mackaye wrote the initial song called "straight edge", but he never told a single person to adhere to the idea - people jumped the bandwagon because of the ridiculously misconstrued general perception of the song - they turned the song into basically a rallying banner for assholes. I'll agree, with one caveat - fuck the straight edge MOVEMENT, not the IDEA. If you wanna do drugs, suit yourself, whatever.

  • Fugazi rules!

    Such a respectable band...

  • lub it

  • if it wasn't for ted nuget fugazi wouldn't have existed so kids it all goes back to the nuge

  • I don't know why the thumbs down. True Story. Ted Nuget was a huge influence on ian mackaye

  • thumbs down come from ignonat fugazi internet warriors who equate nugent with his politics, not music, and as disciples of all things p.c., they must look down their noses at such facts, and in the typical liberal way, they try to supress the facts they don't like, in this case by using the thumbs down.

ian is for truth not lies.

  • I'm a liberal (and into Fugazi) and you're exactly right about Ian being into Nugent. But what does that have to with me being liberal?

I gave you a thumbs up anyway.

  • it has to do with nothing about you.

  • FLIPSIDE!

  • I love the fact that all fugazi albums sound different. my all time favorite band.

  • for some lucky reason, i got to sit behind the drummer with my girlfriend at the time while they played a show at my undergrad (CMU strangely). it was pretty amazing. i don't think anyone was as prepared as they should have been at the time.

  • was that in 2001 or so, if so that was an awesome show, not that there are any bad fugazi shows

  • holy shit! where did all this talent come from?!

  • Fugazi = perfect style... hard and melodic they've got the key...

  • Love the song, love Jem Cohen's work on the band, but why is Kevin McHale in the front row at 1:02-1:04?

  • joe lally is amazing!

  • got curious. which song?

  • fuck death cab for cutie

  • i love that song

  • Hell yeah. Ian is incredible.

  • pretty sweet :)

  • atomstyle

  • looooove eeeeet...

  • What a sweeeet Vid! Thanks for sharing!

  • that was one of the most blessed two minutes of my life

  • Man theres some pretty crazy conversations going on on this age. Alot of big words being thrown around. Very cool.

  • É música pra toda hora!!!!!

  • love this song

  • i laazy fugazi

  • geez...all that's being pointed out candygirl is "are they doing it for the money" or are they doing it for "art's sake." Fugazi did it for art's sake. take it or leave it.

  • Just so you know, I wasn't talking about Fugazi at all. A bunch of people were getting on my case for listening to pop music. That's what the discussion was about, and I was upset that people were so irritated with my personal musical taste. I was also upset that they were talking about hating pop music when people should just be appreciating Fugazi. You might know that if you looked a few pages back. =]

  • Oh and I absolutely agree that Fugazi did it for art's sake, etc - but I have to point out that I'm a boy. Don't judge a book by its cover and don't judge a person by a few sentences. You have some nice musical taste there, by the way.

  • joya

  • Fucking fantastic. For what Fugazi has implemented on so many people, is irreplaceable.

  • yeah! =)

  • great song!

  • Is it me or are there too many musicians in the USA. 8 million musicians on myspace. I mean that could be worldwide but if thats just the USA then that is way too many.

  • sorry...just listened to some patd and they've got the backstreet boys on the run for their identity.

  • Nah, They really dont,

    I liked PATD

    When i was seven ^^

  • i assume that PATD means Panic at the disco. yeah, they fucking SUCK. I am from Vegas, and there's a reason why they got a bottle thrown at their head. Its cuz they suck.

  • We don't hate pop music, we just hate pop that isn't real music (a.k.a PATD).

  • haha - that's fine. I don't really care if pop music is "real" or not. I don't understand why people focus their disdain on silly pop music when another pop group will take it's place in 6 months, maybe 1 year's time. Oh - and your reply was pretty unimaginative. One time I got this: "PATD is just Fall Out Boy with keyboards." Note the snarkiness and the humor.

  • There's a difference between pop that is meant to be bubbly, and then pop that's posing as art. That is where pop-acts like falloutboy, hawthorne heights, Tokio, Panic should be lined up and shot. repeatdely. They've fooled a generation of kids into thinking that they're making 'real' deep stuff when all it is stock-catchy hooks and beats, right off the assembly line.

    Backstreetboys with guitars.

  • If anyone should be shot, it should be the "original" and arrogant masses who are offended by such bands - for their immaturity and hypocrisy. Perhaps it's just me, but reality is pretty much boring and pointless - what's wrong with listening to fun music that makes you laugh, cry, and dance around [with or without irony]? I see "pop that's posing as art" as an art in itself - and much more entertaining than the remarks of [bitter, "witty" and "subversive"] pseudo-intellectual hipsters.

  • If you consider lazy song writing "real music" then go ahead, enjoy the modern pop punk bands. Enjoy what they give you, they've put a lot of hard work into it (sarcasm).

  • Placing the word 'sarcasm' in parentheses was redundant. Fugazi is one of my favourite bands, not only for their musicianship but also for their ethics; I also like [supposedly bad] pop music. I'm sorry that offends you so much, but for your own sake get a grip and whine about something with ACTUAL meaning. [Can I get an amen?] It only shows shallowness, arrogance and a narrow-mind when one thinks they are an objective source when it comes to deeming what is "real music" and what is not.

  • self-deluded apologist or a dolt? you decide.

Those pop bands you're talking about are whoring out an image, attitude and sound that is utterly antithetical to what they create. The value of pop-art is that is it an attack on the commercialization of 'value'. These bands aren't making pop-art, because they're not in on the joke. They're just cashing in.

You can't get an amen, b/c the argument is about the value of principles & ethics. Go to Wall St for an amen for short-sighted self-interest.

  • If someone else cashes in, that's their affair, not mine. I understand what you are saying - and I agree - but whether someone is anti-material or raking in millions, it doesn't really matter. Everyone is still stuck in this capitalistic society. Look at your own values before you judge others. You're so upset that I choose to defend pop bands - but mostly likely your whole life is built on the cheap labor of others so you can live in a home, eat food, and own a tv. Open your own eyes.

  • What can we do? Well, we have a lot of options. I am still trying to decide which socialist/anarchist philosophy is the best. I like making decisions for myself - clearly the majority of the people on here do not. They get upset about pop music when they should be worrying about important issues if they are against commercialism, etc. - such as the existence of first and third world nations, poverty, free trade, eradication of human rights, and other REAL crises.

  • I agree, I believe in anarchy but the civillized kind.

But we can't do anything about certain things how hard we try which is pretty sad.

Like getting upset about pop music like you say while people are homeless and starving.

Sometimes I just feel powerless because I'm still just a kid.

  • You're never powerless as long as you have your own beliefs, and ideas. The best way you can protest against society is within your own mind. I'm a completely non-violent person, but I think it's okay for people to resist with force if necessary. Yeah - I'm "just a kid" too but at least we're wise enough to see that arguing about petty things is pointless. I love this band and I don't know why everyone is so concerned about what other music I listen to.

  • I agree, thank you for these wise words of justice.

  • Don't you know catsboyscandy that people are not concerned about the world and it's fate or their part in it, they just care about arguing on YouTube...obviously...

  • Oh no, I thought that as well because people endlessly responded to one comment I made. From there it spiraled out of control. As with any other addiction, I have a bad habit of defending myself.

  • Don't feel the need to defend yourself via YouTube...let them be ignorant :)

  • I'm not really concerned with other people's ignorance, as sad as it may be. It's more like OCD. That and I prefer to have the last word, especially in arguments where the opposition is obscene. It seems that we are rather similar - we even have the same background color.

  • I am pretty sure I have OCD...with many things...

    That it does.

    ...purple...I love purple...

  • Its not about materialism, its about sincerity in art and the creative abilities of the 'artist.' Those bands aren't artists simply because they're not creating anything. The fact that their business (and it is primarily a business endeavor for them), is based on exploiting a pre-existing 'style' that is completely antithetical to what they do (insincerity, self-interest, etc), is just insult on injury.

I've lived in the US and willingly in relative poverty in the 3rd world. I'm wide awake

  • No - materialism was brought into the picture with "cashing in" and "selling out". You could just as well say that there are hardly any artists today whatsoever. Based on your reasoning, all artists - painters, designers, writers, etc - are just doing what someone else has already done. For example, Shakespeare was a brilliant writer, but he was creative not original. I see pop as art because it's not being ignored - it's loved and hated.

  • Don't you mean 'consumerism' instead of 'materialism'? Materialism is a philosophy.

  • I meant what I said. This lady with whom I was in an argument was saying "____ is not art because ___ is not creative". But she was also saying that "_____ is not art because ____ makes enormous profit/ _____ is not art because all that _____ cares about is making money". That would be materialism. We weren't talking about people buying what _____ were selling, but that could be implied. But her main concern was not consumerism at all, hence why I said her concern was materialism.

  • The philosophy of materialism holds that the only thing that can be truly proven to exist is matter, and is considered a form of physicalism. Fundamentally, all things are composed of material and all phenomena (including consciousness) are the result of material interactions; therefore, matter is the only substance.

I don't think you mean 'materialism'.

  • I think you meant greed. 'Materialism' is the wrong word to use.

  • Sorry for my offensive American slang. =]

  • Aw its cool, I'm not offended.

  • You probably should be. American English is so disgraceful, I am so ashamed of it. haha

  • Your use of the word "materialism" was correct; " a preoccupation with or stress upon material rather than intellectual or spiritual things." One definition, the one you meant, refers to ethics. The other refers to metaphysics.

Nevertheless, I am always entertained by seeing devolution in action, in this case one moron "unteaching" another how to speak.

  • hmmm... You mean how to write. More importantly though, isn't both your and his language lessons rather pedantic?

  • I spoke english bester then all people

  • Haha, victory goes to you my friend.

  • Wow, And All That Intellectual Thought Out Of A Person With A Screen Name Such As "JimmyJizzbag".

    Very Eye Opening

  • bahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • If you want my charity credentials, I too have lived in the 3rd world. I'm glad your awake. But that doesn't mean that your philsophy of art is correct. As you say, if one is not creating, it is not art. So iconoclasts' work and destructive propoganda is never art? I would strongly disagree. I'm not an idiot. I am erratic, but I am literate and able to construct my own thoughts. I find it ridiculous that there is such a fuss over pop. I thought people were entitled to their own opinion.

  • yeah, that pseudo-angst crap kills me. The bands that you listed all have the same azz formula. And if I hear one more person comparing these bands to the Clash and Sex Pisols...

  • I couldn't agree more.

  • PATD is strictly mallXcore - get lost

  • dude,,,, holy fuck this is the best song ive ever heard. holy shit

  • Blink 182 was NOOOTHHHIINNGGG compared to Fugazi. Fugazi knew what they were doing, and they weren't concentrated on the money or trends, they were making REAL music with REAL meanings and messages. Any of you who think blink 182 matched or were better than Fugazi know absolutely nothing about music and the hard work behind it. Bands like Blink 182, Fallout boy, Panic at the disco and countless others incorporate lazy song writing. Don't ever say blink 182 was better than Fugazi.

  • i wouldnt call blink concentrated or trend or mony they genuinly wanted to have fun but WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAy different than the awesomeness that is fugazi

  • Well, at the beginning they may have been okay, but nearing the end of their career, it was quite obvious they were obeying what the record labels wanted. This was not the case with Fugazi. In my opinion, that's how you can tell the real music apart from the not-real music.

  • Fugazi had balls. Something all other bands seem to lack. Nuff said.

  • love this video

  • you cant fuckin beat this shit

  • how can you compare stink 182 to the almighty fugazi....i grew up in MD 5 minutes from the dc line and let me tell you guys something...Ian and Fugazi are legends....blink is corporate bullcrap!

  • that was the shit!

  • memories

  • ian mackay is the best

  • cant hate on blink travis is a beast but fugazi is

the shit i agree still give credit where it is due

    respect musicians

  • there was something really special about them. i've heard better songwriting, better lyrics, better playing, but nobody is fugazi...no one. they cannot be touched because they were for real. and when they clicked on a song, a part of me that doesn't have words went soaring. no other band could do that.

i think they were a musician's band. that's why a lot of people didn't "get" them. even the most pompous elitist musicians i know gave them their due, even if begrudgingly. God bless fugazi.

  • man do i feel sorry for whoever thinks fugazi sucks (cough, Bludshot15).. noone understands,, they want to sound sucky,,so sucky that it passes the limit of suckiness and goes back to being awesome,, their the best/worst band ever.. which makes them my favorite band, cuz they know exactly what their doing and why they do it,, their supposed to sound like that. fuck all you teeny boppers with your one hit wonder bands, go listen to blink 182 and simple plan. this is FUGAZI,get the fuck outta here

  • What happens when a punk band starts playing well and wearing makeup? The start a band called Greenday. Fugazi is transcendence.

  • Thumbs way up!

Blink 182 and Simple Plan are multi-million dollar corporations.

    Fugazi can't be bought.

  • Blink were cool dudes I really respect them, even Tom still after that little mess. I don't believe they wrote songs just to make hits, that's just what they liked to write and what they grew up on. I completely agree about Simple Plan though they're so boring to listen to.

But Fugazi are legends that cannot be touched

  • i love this song over all *___*

  • plane out = even out...if you haven't picked on.. heavier music is rooted in undoing the glorious 60's

  • buy a clue.

  • Lyrics don't make a song

  • I'd say they do sometimes.

  • you must be 12 or german because you don't spell very well. tell mommy to put some manson on for you.

  • "Plane out?" What does that mean?

  • that spit was awesomeness spewing from his mouth

if he hawked one, someone would have died from sheer happiness

and this band is great, not all songs need lyrics

  • Dude the spit flying from his mouth is so gross, but still awesome music

  • love the ending!!!

  • This is more than music

    THIS IS ART

  • Ok well I am the only one I know who owns a recordable walkman so that will do for now..hit me up yo

  • I might need to resort to a p2p to get some of this band....they dont exist in my town in any music store and I dont have a credit card so i am fucked until I find an album.

  • Dischord are obviously pretty reasonable guys, e-mail them and see if you can pay by cheque.
