So now it has been FIVE MORE YEARS and still those rotten bastards in NY-WashDC are continuing the wars.. NO... they are starting new ones in Libya, Yemen and Pakistan. We need to stop singing and start mobilizing.
O'Bummer is just Bush with a tan, decent clothes and a better vocabulary. Why in the world anyone expected anything other than what they go is beyond me. He's just a corporate shill like Gore, Kerry, Bush, etc. Guys, wake up! In the WHOLE WORLD only the American President claims the right to order ANYONE killed and claims no on has the right to question his orders, regardless. We live in a genuine Fascist dictator's world and we're to stupid to realize it.
@tom500k: Obama did not start either the war in Afghanistan or the war in Iraq. That was Bush, baby. Those are Bush's wars - or should we say Haliburton's wars? Not Obama's. That's kind of like calling Vietnam Nixon's war, or calling the Korean war Eisenhower's war.
Impeach Obama for killing our troops to loot oil on the orders of his billionaire masters. Obama's insane war mongering endangers us all. Obama is nothing more than a slicker, more cynical, more polished version of the 2nd worst president in history, Baby Bush. Obama is playing right into Bin Laden's strategy to bring down the US just as he brought down the USSR -- by bankrupting them.
@uzb1 And God Bless Bruce Springsteen for singing Pete's songs, including this one on nation TV.
As much as any American, Bruce has become the conscience of the 21st century.
He has always written of the problems of those with little, especially in the folk albums, Nebraska and the Ghost of Tom Joad. But beginning in the months prior to the invasion of Iraq, without become explicitly didactic, he has made his views known - in the songs, in comments from stage, and in the media, and at peril.
@inverkenny Not really. Not when you've seen a beheading video. You need to realize, Mr. Kenny, that radical muslims DO NOT ask if you are a conservative or liberal prior to slicing off your head. They want you dead - -and they want me dead. It's about time you decide what side of the fight you are on -- because being neutral is not on the American side.
blutri10, i am not on the American side, your answer to the problem is too simplistic, do you honestly believe Americans dont do bad things? i'm on the side of humanity and justice, not we're the good guys and they're the bad guys, just how many john wayne films have you watched?
If you and I have an argument, instead of you killing me, we could come to an peaceful understanding.
If you treated me like shit for fifty years, like the Western imperialist states has treated the Arab world it will be harder, but by no means impossible. The difference is that instead of theft, threats and violence, basically what started the argument in the first place, you could simply give back what you stole, ask forgiveness and really try to resolve it before it get worse.
The money spent in Afghanistan and Iraq could in effect have erased poverty and starvation in the WHOLE WORLD for the foreseeable future. Something that would have earned an incredible amount of good will and respect but above all else, it would not have made everything WORSE as the current course of action has.
The strategy has however never been to bring peace to the middle east, but instead to conquer and steal national resources. And in that light the war has been a great success.
@mallestarion We have freed 50 million people over the last 8 years (appx 25 million Iraqis and 25 million Afghanis) It's about time liberal America comes to terms that they have accepted Allah as their God -- or America as their country.
Are you insane or merely istunningly ignorant. We've caused half a million Iraqis to die and another 2 million to be maimed, rendered 3 - 4 million homeless. What are they free from? Not poverty. Not suicide bombers. Over 90% of the midle class have fled the country.
As for Afghanistan, what have we freed them of? Their livlihood? Their poverty? Their fear? Their weak government?
Must Americans need to accept *your* God? You're more dogmatic that the worst islamic extremists.
@mallestarion Shameful comments Mr. Mallestarion. Such anti-American comments would've been known as treason back in the 30's and 40's -- back when the chrome was thick, and the women (and the men) were straight.
Yeah well, back in the good old 30's and 40's, the writer of this song Pete Seeger was not allowed to perform his "anti-american" treacherous songs (this one among others) and the FBI did their best to make sure he got no job or were able to live a normal life. The world of thick chrome and straight men you imagine never existed, the only thing that was a plenty during that period was ignorance. And in that sense not much has changed in America since.
Oh -- and by the way -- We have failed to win against al Qaeda for the same reason we failed (politically) in Vietnam. We lost because of twisted anti-American people like you who hate this country more than the enemy. Have you ever seen a beheading video? Have you ever heard the enemy chat "Allah Akbar" as the rusty knife makes the first cut of the American's throat? We are all finished because people like you fail to stand up for this country. I'm sure there were innocent German kids who had their hands blown off in World War II. What's your point? That's war. I don't like war -- but if it means someone killing us before we kill them -- it needs to be done.
I don't know if they did want to kill me OR YOU. Innocent death is such a shame and tragedy. -- but one of our goals in Iraq was to stop the destruction by Saddam Hussein. Thanks to President George W. Bush -- there are no more rape rooms -- no more people being thrown off buildings...It's a tragedy that the lives of innocent people are lost -- but that is war.
Things didn't go so well after he went. But, are you saying we should bring him back? Why are you so obsessed with Saddam Hussein? Why do you think he was such a great leader? This isn't hard for me. This is quite easy. I don't think anyone wanted any innocent people to die, including President Bush. But this is war. We have been unsuccessful so far against al Qaeda because people like you don't have the stomach to defeat the enemy.

Somewhere inside of Bruce's body -- there is a patriot American. Unfortunately, he has degenerated into an anti-American hate monger. Surely, when he says "Bring them home" he means bring back the liberal Democrats to their districts and out of Washington. Shortly after this video, the surge was implemented by President Bush -- and the boys won in Iraq. God Bless our troops...and God Bless America.
Now how is it that a God who transcends both discursive knowledge and phenomenal existence somehow blesses the wanton killing of Iraqi women and children in the name of American exceptionalism, surely this either a God not worth worshipping or one that is merely a figment of your imagination. "God Bless America" is reductionistic soundbite that reveals the extent of your political consciousness!
@PMishkin Killing Iraqi women and children in the name of American exceptionalism? Obama? Is that you? Either you work for Obama or surely you are a member of al Qaeda who has infiltrated the You Tube world. Shame on you for trying to brainwash the American public, Mohammed.
Funny how your only a patriot American if your a war loving "hate monger". Nothing has been WON yet my friend. Just a lot of wasted young lives, "boys" and young women. Pull your head out of the sand put aside your political BS and let's stop wasted young lives for nothing.
@jdgarre01 It's people like you who allow events like 9.11.01 to happen to us. You see the enemy in the cross hairs -- but you don't want to fight. Liberalism is a very dangerous mental disorder -- and you failing to recognize this adds fuel to that statement. If people like you were in charge during World War II, we would all be speaking German, or we would be a lampshade or bar of soap. I will reply to this thread again when al Qaeda strikes again and tell you..."I told you so."
I'll offer an eye-wirness account that this is Concord, a suburb about 30 miles east of San Francisco. I grew up there, although I've lived in Georgia for 34 years. I haven't missed a tour since first seeing Bruce in 1978, but was going to miss this one unless I got on an airplane. I flew out to the Bay Area in early June 06 and saw this show.
Irrelevant coincidental fact: Dave Brubek, who was one of the Kennedy Center Honorees, with Bruce, a few weeks ago, was born and raised in Concord.
As someone who is enlisting in the Maine National Guard next week, I agree wholeheartedly. Bring 'em home! Not only from Iraq and Afganistan, but from Germany, Japan, and South Korea. No more policing the world. Our troops should be in America not Germany.
you forgot Antigua, Australia, Austria, Bahamas, Bahrain, Beligum, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Canada, Columbia, Cuba, Denmark, France, Greece, UK, Honduras, Hungary, Iceland, Indonesia, Italy, Kuwait, Macedonia, Marshall Islands, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Oman, Peru, Portugal, Qatar. Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Spain, South Korea, St Helena, United Arab Emirates, and Venezuela.
@PMishkin I saw a GI in Wales yesterday near Cardiff I think .I know its part othe UK but just wanted to give you a W (although technically it should be a C in the Welsh language). Are the US in the Yemen yet? my guess is you are but its a secret so just between you n me OK.!
There was no San Francisco show on this tour, so I believe this performance is at the Sleep Train Pavilion (suburban Concord, California). Though we can forgive the confusion...even Bruce started the show with "Where the f--- are we?"
Sorry, by "this tour" I was referring to the 2006 Seeger Sessions tour. I checked the setlists again, and there was definitely no San Francisco show in 2006.
I see some don't agree with the message! Then why don't you do this? I'm sure many would love to trade places with you. They were told that there were WMD's, there weren't, then they caught the bad guy, right? This song was 2 years ago and they're still there. The ones that don't agree to bring them home, what more do you want them to do?
@lilbirdy25 We've now been there over seven (7) years. Hell, we won WW II in less than half that time.
"Bring them home, bring them home." Pete seeger wrote it for the Vietnam war but it applies as well now.
I admire Springsteen for being an outspoken opponent of the invasion and occupation in Iraq since before the invasion, when the Bush Cabal tried to turn dissent into treason.
Look what they did to Wilson, for former Ambassador to Niger, and hs wife, Valerie Plume.
Love this song and Bruce does it terrific, very powerfully sung along with the band. This song should be at the Protest Marches and he should be in them too singing it! We need a united song all should be singing just like when the Protesters in the past sung all in unity "We Shall Overcome". That got results.
I cant believe people here are talking about the price they pay for gass, instead of moarning the million Iraqis youve slaughtered in the name of it. May you all choke on your gasoline.
Another GREAT song written by Pete Seeger and performed by Bruce Springsteen. There was a great article on Pete in today's NY times. If you can't find it drop me a note and I will send you the link.
This war is ABSOLUTELY about GREED and OIL....nothing more and once again it is the POOR people fighting the wars for the rich. How many RICH PEOPLE are on the front lines? There aren't many troops with the last name of Bush, Cheney, Kerry, Kennedy or Limbaugh. I wonder why?
i think there will be peace and stability when the fighting stops...and to do that everybody needs to stop fighting...Its easier to make war than peace, and if america is everything its made out to be, it will be the "bigger" person metaphorically speaking, and lay down thier guns...if not, then what america is made out to be is a lie...and everyone else is right about them

I am a big fan of Bruce...and I do deeply love this land of the free...but I could not disagree more with this bring em home song...unless you add the lyric...bring em home when the job is done...don't be afraid of success and stability and peace in Iraq.
I thought Ron Paul had a lot of potential until I heard him talk for an hour on the radio (Ed Schultz show).
Paul also plans to get rid of social security, medicare/medicaid and de-regulate the federal bank in favor of letting private interests run everything and "let the market decide" what will work.
Allowing private corporate interests to take over without any government guidelines to stop them when they value money and power above human life and liberty, is not my idea of a good plan.
Ron Paul believes Social Security is unconstitutional. He believes the government has no role to play regulating corporations, including banks. NO FDIC. Money in banks would be uninsured and used as bankers saw fit bankers. The free market would weed out poorly managed banks, like B of A and Citibanc, and insurance companies, like AIG, and those who owned stock, or had a 401K, or just a savings deposit, would be out of luck.
This is what led to the 1930s depression, complete bank failures.
CPSJSMSUUMUGA: I hope for the day when the pranksters of B of A and Citibank go belly up. Do you know that the FDIC is only required to have 1.15% of the total monies deposited in a bank. In other words, if the banks collapsed, 98.85% of the people would be shit out of luck. The system is broken and the bankers can't be counted on to fix it.
You Americans are quite fucked up, complaining about high oil prices while in Europe we pay about three times as much as you do! Stop buying fucking pick-up trucks and SUV's and start doing something for the environment instead of whining your lazy asses off!
In europe we pay for a liter, they pay for a gallon. relative speaking, we pay about the same. Americans even more since the dollar is at his all time low...
I don't know where you come from but in Sweden we pay almost 14 swedish kronor for a liter. 14 kronor equals 2.3 dollars and in USA they pay an average of 4 dollars per gallon. A gallon is 3.8 liters. Ergo they pay 1.05 dollars per liter. That's about six swedish kronor. We pay 14 kronor/liter and they pay 6 kronor/liter. We may not pay three times as much (my mistake) but we pay hell of a lot more.
God doesn't bless countries that slaughter millions of people for oilmoney, if there even would be a God. God has left this planet a long time ago. Your global atrocities prove that.

Why? we don't want puppy killers here. Guess there is a purpose for war. And Bruce.. what is this free country you fight for? The one that incarcerates people by the millions for doing what you do every day, for doing what made music what it is today? For your proof, just listen to the Beatles music through the years. Seems that Bruce is just being what he thinks people will approve of. Yeah he's a sellout allright. Sellout in the land of hypocrites.
Why rehash that the US did not attack innocent people - Saddam funded terrorism, violated 14 UN resolutions, & was suspected by ALL to have WMDs? or that nobody doubts that the war was constitutional? ..zzzzzzzzz All that sheeyite is past. This is not about oil - it's about WOMEN's rights & a religion that will deny them by force. It's about a generation indoctrinated to hate the fragile freedom you take for granted here.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
What if Bruce is wrong about the threat radical Islam poses to the west? Having "brought them home", imagine newly enriched & energized Mullahs using current terror techniques to spread Sharia through the Mid East & Europe. Then, for half the world, woman's rights would regress to middle ages status. The Mullahs would have the bomb, the means for new WMDs, & countless martyrs to deliver them.
Paranoia?? Fellow Bruce fan, listen to Rad Islam's rhetoric + actions! Tragically, OUR Bruce is wrong.
And why would there be "newly enriched & energized Mullahs" to worry about... ummmm oh, because of our attacking innocent people (you know, Iraqi people) and us having occupied their land for umpteen years even before 9/11. But I'm with you..it's their own fault..keeping all of our oil under their sand, how dare they. I know we're 9 trillion in the hole and have to print money to keep this unconstitutional war going...it's all worth it though because Bush Jr and John McCain told me so..
I AM NOT FOR THE WAR, I just can't stand people who believe we should count on politicians to end this war for us. These morons got us there in the first place.
Ron Paul would bring real fundamental change, true, but only would -- he's not electible.
If you want to see real change happening, vote for Obama. Not only will he bring home the troops, he will also make America strong again and respected the world over and at home. He will put the American people first, and lobbyists and special interest will take a distant back seat.
His feel good speeches serve to inspire and motivate people, to bring them together for a common purpose. This is important for his diverse agenda to be realised, because real change happens from the bottom up.
You ask for evidence. Check out his Chicago years as a state senator. He reformed a failing death penalty system, redistributed wealth to the middle class, provided health care for struggling families. And he did this by working across partylines even while Dems were in the minority.
Derivative of Pete Seeger's anti-war song of the 60's
Check out a song I wrote about an American soldier who survives Vietnam, only to lose his son in Iraq. When you open the video, you can view the lyrics by clicking on "more" to the right of the screen.
I don't need you to preach politics to me. If you had looked at my page you would see I'm an anarchist. I don't mean to upset, or offend anyone, it's just that everyone's a critic. His music simply does not appeal to me. Contrary to popular belief, people think differently. Ednahall, if Springsteen is the most political music you've heard, than you don't know much about music.
punkska, I think you're doing the right thing. Let where you're from (geographically or metaphorically?) dictate your thinking. Independent thought, having your own opinions, being able to defend them - that's apparently out of the league (you come from). I'm continually amazed at how people who have accomplished nothing, can be so quick to criticize the giants among us. And Bruce Springsteen is a giant. You, Sir, are a pigmie & a coward for refusing to defend what you write.
Being infamous isn't much of an accomplishment, either. We can all see what the NeoCon agenda has done for us -- the liberals certainly cannot do any worse, and might even do better. Bring our people home now, before more American blood and treasure is wasted in that useless debacle.
You're harshly mistaken if you actually believe the liberals will change anything. Yeah, conservatives suck, but liberals haven't worked nearly hard enough to get us out of this war.
punkska, you're talking about a man who, for the last 30 years has maintained a strong and consistent message in his music and who means something to everyone on this page, and you generalise his music by saying 'he sucks' and you havent even given a reason
Beautiful song. Only one candidate is for bringing home all of our troops stationed overseas. (And his name is most certainly not Barack Obama.)

There was no San Francisco show on this tour, so I believe this performance is at the Sleep Train Pavilion (suburban Concord, California). Though we can forgive the confusion...even Bruce started the show with "Where the f--- are we?"

Your forgiveness is always welcome, but this video was shot in 2006 with the (Seeger) Sessions Band, not in 2009 with the E Street Band.

I see some don't agree with the message! Then why don't you do this? I'm sure many would love to trade places with you. They were told that there were WMD's, there weren't, then they caught the bad guy, right? This song was 2 years ago and they're still there. The ones that don't agree to bring them home, what more do you want them to do?
lilbirdy25 3 years ago 3
@lilbirdy25 We've now been there over seven (7) years. Hell, we won WW II in less than half that time.
"Bring them home, bring them home." Pete seeger wrote it for the Vietnam war but it applies as well now.
I admire Springsteen for being an outspoken opponent of the invasion and occupation in Iraq since before the invasion, when the Bush Cabal tried to turn dissent into treason.
Look what they did to Wilson, for former Ambassador to Niger, and hs wife, Valerie Plume.

MyPetGoat2U 3 years ago 4
i think there will be peace and stability when the fighting stops...and to do that everybody needs to stop fighting...Its easier to make war than peace, and if america is everything its made out to be, it will be the "bigger" person metaphorically speaking, and lay down thier guns...if not, then what america is made out to be is a lie...and everyone else is right about them

Falloutfollies 3 years ago
Amen
TheFrankFactor 3 years ago
Ron Paul believes Social Security is unconstitutional. He believes the government has no role to play regulating corporations, including banks. NO FDIC. Money in banks would be uninsured and used as bankers saw fit bankers. The free market would weed out poorly managed banks, like B of A and Citibanc, and insurance companies, like AIG, and those who owned stock, or had a 401K, or just a savings deposit, would be out of luck.
This is what led to the 1930s depression, complete bank failures.
CPSJSMSUUMUGA 3 years ago
CPSJSMSUUMUGA: I hope for the day when the pranksters of B of A and Citibank go belly up. Do you know that the FDIC is only required to have 1.15% of the total monies deposited in a bank. In other words, if the banks collapsed, 98.85% of the people would be shit out of luck. The system is broken and the bankers can't be counted on to fix it.

You Americans are quite fucked up, complaining about high oil prices while in Europe we pay about three times as much as you do! Stop buying fucking pick-up trucks and SUV's and start doing something for the environment instead of whining your lazy asses off!
iLoveSalami 3 years ago
In europe we pay for a liter, they pay for a gallon. relative speaking, we pay about the same. Americans even more since the dollar is at his all time low...
Disseased 3 years ago
I don't know where you come from but in Sweden we pay almost 14 swedish kronor for a liter. 14 kronor equals 2.3 dollars and in USA they pay an average of 4 dollars per gallon. A gallon is 3.8 liters. Ergo they pay 1.05 dollars per liter. That's about six swedish kronor. We pay 14 kronor/liter and they pay 6 kronor/liter. We may not pay three times as much (my mistake) but we pay hell of a lot more.

Why? we don't want puppy killers here. Guess there is a purpose for war. And Bruce.. what is this free country you fight for? The one that incarcerates people by the millions for doing what you do every day, for doing what made music what it is today? For your proof, just listen to the Beatles music through the years.

Tragically, OUR Bruce is wrong.
scotchscotch 4 years ago
And why would there be "newly enriched & energized Mullahs" to worry about... ummmm oh, because of our attacking innocent people (you know, Iraqi people) and us having occupied their land for umpteen years even before 9/11. But I'm with you..it's their own fault..keeping all of our oil under their sand, how dare they. I know we're 9 trillion in the hole and have to print money to keep this unconstitutional war going...it's all worth it though because Bush Jr and John McCain told me so..

VOTE! Ron Paul for President 2008!
susietwotoo 4 years ago
Ron Paul would bring real fundamental change, true, but only would -- he's not electible.
If you want to see real change happening, vote for Obama. Not only will he bring home the troops, he will also make America strong again and respected the world over and at home. He will put the American people first, and lobbyists and special interest will take a distant back seat.
Go Obama '08!

IDICU2B..Just curious what evidence has Obama given you to beleive he will be any different than any other Politician, Dem or Republican?
I hope you are right, I just aint buying into his Feel good speeches. Heard it all a thousand times before.
God I hope This time I am wrong. But I fear again I am right.
crawdad1914 4 years ago 2
His feel good speeches serve to inspire and motivate people, to bring them together for a common purpose. This is important for his diverse agenda to be realised, because real change happens from the bottom up.
You ask for evidence. Check out his Chicago years as a state senator. He reformed a failing death penalty system, redistributed wealth to the middle class, provided health care for struggling families. And he did this by working across partylines even while Dems were in the minority.

I don't need you to preach politics to me. If you had looked at my page you would see I'm an anarchist. I don't mean to upset, or offend anyone, it's just that everyone's a critic. punkska, I think you're doing the right thing.
