  • i am never ever parcheas maxtor HD

  • This is why I prefer SSD.

  • i have a problem like that man its a pain and i dont hav any money 2 buy a new hard disk so i just go into system dynamics and wait for it 2 test and then before it test the hard disk i pres esc as fast as i can so it will work harder 2 find it try it out i hope it works for u my runniing system is vista i have bin doing this for round 2weeks do u think it will damage my cpu?

  • @MACA001able it will not damage any other hardware part, but I strongly suggest you to leave your defective hard drive stopped until you will buy a new one; if you continue to use this hard drive you may lose all data stored on it!

When HDDs click as this one, they will work for a very short time before experience a complete failure.

  • ow my god i still have maxtor and its painful to see this :/

  • This is painful to watch.

  • maxtors like to die with the telltale maxtor click beat.... dont ever buy maxtor stick with WD

  • @c0rrupts3ct0r555 Yes, stick with WD

  • i';ve had more trouble with WD than maxtor, but samsung are the way to go :)

  • My two WD HDD never gave me a problem, I test they every month and the SMART values are ever within normal limits.

Also in case of failure WD replaces the faulty HDD in 24 hours if it is under warranty

  • well, my WD would cut off in power, but it could also be the supply of the power too. maybe your right I mean their hdds are pretty good, but, i guess it depends on make of the drive? like different versions?

  • If your HDD cuts off power by itself i guess you have a faulty power supply, probably the power cable is damaged.

If you have another power supply with same output features you can try to power up the HDD with it.

  • It was in the enclosure, maybe that enclosure was bad. It hasn't lost power since, though.

  • my samsung died at the beginning of year 2009! I installed it in my Acer TravelMate 2300LC in 2005

  • that's a laptop hdd yeah?

  • No it's a 3.5'' desktop HDD, laptop HDD are 2.5'', little small than this Maxtor.

  • ohhh fair enough. I got a SATA one not long ago.

  • @TeamXR07 I've run at least 4 Western Digital drives, probably many more in the past before i was aware what I had, and I've only ever had one fail, and that was a Protege manufactured in 2001 that had had a very hard life - and came with an ex-office PC I'd purchased. I currently have 3 WD drives across my two PCs.

  • i had a couple of maxtors...... most of them failed. i've used quantum, hitachi, western digital, seagate, fujitsu, samsung, and amung other drives i've had no problems, i get alot of maxtors, that are dying or died.

  • I think Western Digital HDD are the best, I've saw one of them 6 years old and is still working perfectly.

  • Diamond max minus 9 or 10? either wayy. maxtor is way unreliable.. We even have a taken apart diamondmax minus 9 at work thats musical (stuck bearing).... always WD always!!!!!!

  • maxtors suck get western digital or somthing JUST NOT ANOTHER MAXTOR

  • Western Digital are the best! I want to buy two Raptors, they're very fast.

  • well did you figure out that maxtors suck yet?

  • I knew that even before, Maxtor HDDs are famous for their click click of death XD

  • well they do...

  • I'm back! (old account babybooman6 got deleted by hackers)
