  • Oooh my God this makes me sooo sad...Neva leave my animal...Fuck Dat!!!

  • I would never leave Chester and Maguire I would rather die then leave my babies alone scared and cold :'(

  • i hope the people who took these pictures saved these animals in the picturesx

  • i love my 2 dogs marley and dora..if i'll be in that situation i will never leave them..id rather bring nothing except my two lovely dogs..

  • animals are just like people..they eat sleep and shit just as humans..how can they leave these loved pets behind???

  • i love animals i want to be in the animal hesite and god bless all of the peopel and animals that made it

  • no matter what the first thing i would grab in a fire, tornado or w.e it would be my pets even tho i usally have alot i have 3 dogs right now and 2 cats well my one dog is having babies in august but i would NEVER leave an animal during anything like that.

  • i don't see any reason why i should save myself and leave my pets behind...NO WAY!

i should be responsible for their safety too.

  • fuck WMG

  • i will never leave mine

  • people have choices and the understanding to get the fuck out.... pets are innocent beings with nothing bt love ...

  • i rather choose to die than left them alone...

  • Beautiful video it made me cry...thank to the rescuers many animals were saved. Amazing people they are!

  • Theres no way I would leave without my dog, I would have stayed behind with him before I would have left him to die.

  • This is so sad,so sad!

  • That's so sad. I saw many pictures with pet owners towing their dogs and cats in bins or in their arms. Thay weren't left behind. Maybe some of these pets owners were killed or something. That's what I would like to think happened.

  • I would never leave a pet...Even if I had to stay behind.

    If I go, they go.

  • Im right there with you! i would never ever go with out them, and NO one would make me leave them!

  • @Treemeadowsbackup

I totally agree, if there was a disaster here in CA, i go, my pets go with me, if they can't go then i stay with them it's my choice, my life. They are my family

  • Only the dumb people who stayed and did not take the mandadory evacation order seeriously were the ones not allowed to take their pets. It was a mess at that point trying to get people out.

Everyone else could have taken their pets, I took all 6 of mine. Most people thought Katrina would turn or fizz out and we would be home in 3 days & everything would be back to normal.

Katrina was a horrible-hard lesson that everyone has learned from. I hope people will continue to learn.... :)

  • I ran a triler park remember the GULCH FIRE-in California-------deveasting it was-----people let the animals tied in the yard-dogs -cats where in the house-they did NOT-car-I called animal shelter to come and help me rescue the pets-CBS cameras were waiting to film the blaze as it was coming to this park--------ARNOLD CALIFORNIA-I would not go and we broke in the trailers and tagged every animal people I would ever go and not take my pet-I would rather go to Rainbow Brige together-Susan

  • This video breaks my heart everytime I see it.I could never leave my dog behind no matter what anyone says.

They are more then an animal to me and look to me to keep them safe.

  • The people were not allowed to evacuate their pets due to law enforcement.

The state did not or would not allow owners who were being removed from New Orleans to take them with them.

We now have a plan to leave our house and take just ourselves and my dog long before a storm strikes.

The sad part is many animals died through no fault of their own or their owners.

  • Yeah i could never ever leave my animals i would even take my fish in a cup if i had too lol.

The sentence i first wrote didn't make sense sorry.

  • Yeah i could never ever do leave my animals i would even take my fish in a cup if i had too lol.

  • iv got 3 dogs 6 rabbits and 10 guniea pigs and id neva c owt appen to an ov them they al get feed the same n lukd after the same its nt fair the animals av feelings to just think if we was goin thorw wot they ad to it makes me cry wen i watch owt like this:(

  • they live n breathe the same air...baske under the same sun ..play in the same rain ..and sleep under the same moon ..we are ALL the same..born and die..and deserve to live happy safe and free

  • poor babies

  • irienuts,

You are free to give to whatever cause you choose. If you are concerned about the welfare of humans, please feel free to contribute to and volunteer with charities that address those needs. That is your choice. My choice is to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome animals. I am free to make that choice for my time and dollars.

I hope some worthy organization benefits from your humanitarianism.

  • irienuts,

feel free to view my other Katrina video that deals with the human casualties. Don't be an ass!!!!!!

  • BULL SHIT!!!!!!!!!

Animals have the same rights you are an animal too

  • @irienuts you are apparently not catching on...

  • @JASONROCK1983 well? i am slow!! what am i not catching on too?

  • @irienuts Are you serious? People criticized the animals rescuers who went in to save the animals, but those same rescuers also still pulled out people. Aside from that, many people who own pets consider them PART OF THEIR FAMILY and were beyond overjoyed to be reunited with their family members whom they were forced to leave behind. Animals are no less worth our love and compassion.

  • @irienuts WHO said that human lives are more VALUABLE? The "people" who think like you do, destroy the planet and everything in it, believing themselves superior to the rest .. So pathetic!

  • @irienuts Animals are more valuable than humans. They are precious, and loyal to the people that are their owners. It really annoys me when people like you come on here and talk nothing but 'HAHAHAHAH, SOMEONE DIED'. It's not funny. I own a dog, and also a rabbit. If a hurricane or a flood came, I would get them out first. And then, evacuate others. People like you, have no soul, or heart towards animals or people in general.

  • I would never leave my dogs, i would rather die with them than leave them behind and let them die alone. They are my babies

  • mee too i would not leave my baby id rather die with him

  • Many people felt the same as you, and did die with their beloved pets, mostly older people who had no one else in the world. God rest their souls...

  • yyou're right, but i think is amazing that when you stay to die with your pet who is loyal to you and you're loyal to your pet...

don't you think so? i find it amazing beautiful

  • i would never go without my 2 babies. I have a peekapoo and daschund and they are my life. Its truely heartbreaking. I to felt the wrath of katrina living close to the gulfcoast. So many animals left behind its a truely sad thing. If I could id adopt them all. If you have spare change donate. whether it be a dollar or 100 dollar every penny counts. Most of the shelters are just having to put these animals to sleep. Advoid that spay or neauter ur animal.

  • They would have had to shoot me dead before I left my animals behind.

  • id rather stay and die with them than leave them alone to suffer

  • I know the government said no animals.

The rescue people risked being arrested and imprisoned.

They were the only people who could rescue and save the animals.

After this we determined we would never leave my dog behind.

I rescued a Siberian Husky just before Katrina struck and he needs me everyday.

So please help a rescue group today.

They helped when no one else could and did so at peril to themselves and the animals.

  • LOOK AT THEIR WEE FACES!!! waaaaaaaa

  • Let me tell you these animals are one of the many victims of katrina. Many of the rescue groups are tens of thousands of dollars in debt. Please show you care adopt or donate to a rescue group today. For all their kindness and helping hand during the hurricane.Show you care give love and get love.after all the animals deserve it.Not to die or left for dead on the streets, everybody deserves a home and a bed and food.Life is better for the anmals because of people at rescue groups help them please.

  • They did not forget them! The people didn't let them bring them.

  • there's a story behind it. where where hey suppose to bring them? their homes where ruined and most of the pets lost their families.

  • Deppressing.

  • It makes me cry just seeing the title

  • the dog in the air conditioner broke my heart :(

  • They are in a much better place now with other owners that really care. They do not get this emaciated that quickly. We received some of the Katrina dogs in my shelter and my vet said they were neglected to start with. It all goes back to people that should not have animals to start with. To bad there wasn't something that could detect a irresponsible owner to start with and then they could not take that animal home to starve and abuse and throw it into a back yard to take of itself.

  • Oh and don't pull the race card with me. I was born & raised in Wash DC, I don't have a racist bone in my body. I only speak up for the ones who couldn't. Obviously the victims take prescedent over animals, but you were almost attacking people for having feelings about the plight of the forgotten animals. The way our gov't handled the whole thing was terrible, but people were speaking up about it. The animals couldn't because they were abandoned and/or drowning.

  • You'd rather hear about how autistic victims of K survived? Well, probably not very well. Since they are resistant to change, need structure, and if they were moved from place to place...well, I can only imagine how hard it was for them. I never said I didn't care more about the animals than the victims. But animals cannot speak for themselves & were left behind to die. Humans have a voice. Oh, and some Autistic kids can't speak either.

  • btw mela-that was my response (ihearthorsez)to your thoughtless comments. Have a heart

  • hey bug-not sure if you are referring to me as an ass or what, but you seem very narrow minded. I have an autistic son who does pet therapy once a week, and it is very beneficial for him-and others like him. It's really not your place to Hate It when people Feel something you don't. You had an opinion and you stated it. You know what? The Ass you see, is the one you look at in the mirror every day. Lighten up, it's not all about your (and mine)precious tax dollars.

  • what about search and rescue dogs, the K-9 units, therapy dogs, dogs for the blind? The list goes on. That seems to be contributing to me.

  • Pets contribute nothing, melabug? You've obviously never had one.

  • Is this the Bette Midler song?

  • I made a video just like this, and you commented on it

  • considering America is one of the richest countires in the world - HOW could this happen? These dogs and cats are so emaciated that doesnt happen in a day. Bush did not help the people struck by this tragedy he should be deeply ashamed of himself.

Those poor babies thank god someone cared enough to help. .I cant believe that in America where so much money has been spent in Iraq that people are still struggling - im so sorry. It shocks me that the american govt has done so very little.

  • Not in a day, but a lot of the animals werent found until weeks later. One german shep was found 72 DAYS after the hurricane still alive.

  • how can people leave their animals behind to die,if they care that little they shouldnt give them back,i lived through this but i kept my baby with me,i didnt have a shelter but we survived

  • I don't know about New Orleans, I'm on the other end of the country, but we just had devastating floods out here last week, with mass evacuations of entire towns & rural areas & none of the shelters were taking animals. Which means the folks who love their pets are left without shelter from a storm. I was to both a Red Cross & FEMA place last week & people were sleeping in the parking lots, in their cars with their critters. Nothing has changed here.

  • I am so sorry ya'll went through terrible floods.I don't wish that on anyone. Here in New Orleans most of the animals in shelters that weren't evacuated drowned. So I can see why shelters and vets don't want to accept them. Here in New Orleans 15 months later there are still folks living in cars,so sad. I wish ya'll the best of luck & God be with you..

  • We are truly a once-great nation on the decline. We can't take care of ourselves anymore, and that's sad. Halliburton is more important than Americans or helpless animals, I guess. How humiliating.

  • lostkatrinapets dot com

Many hurricane victims are still torn apart by grief and searching for their babies...

  • its soo sadd 2 c animals suffer like this its just not right

  • Oh my God, that is so sad.... =( considering that I have a dog myself and it would be so sad if I ever lost it or if it had to go thru something like this (I hope not of course) but its really sad, as I love animals... =(

  • How heartwrenching. I'm thankful that there are now plans in place for pets during disasters. I'm just sorry that it took the suffering of these poor souls to make it happen. Please create your own pet-inclusive evacuation plan before the next disaster.

  • I'm also a local medic who saw many people that didn't evacuate & didn't survive because they didn't want to leave their pets. It's heartwrenching to climb over debris into a house to find a pet & owner who didn't make it out. Please have a plan to evacuate when the next storm comes. Thise images live with police, fire dept, & medics forever.

  • The mandatory evacuation stated you must leave your pets with food & to leave them untied so they could get away if they needed to because they're not allowed in shelters. My pup's original family is probably still feeling guilt & if I had a way, I'd let them know he's one of the best things to ever happen to our family. Please donate anything you can to your local shelters. They need food, bleach, towels, newspapers, pet carriers, & money.

  • The title is dead set accurate. How could the government make people leave their babies? What a horrible decision, be rescued and leave your family member or stay and face certain death. My heart breaks for the owners and these poor animals.

  • OH GOD, THIS IS A TEAR JEARKER, I COULD NEVER LEAVE MY BABIES , NO MATTER WHAT, IS NOT FAIR

  • If you have chosen on already, the Humane Society of South Mississippi is still in need of help. I rescued my baby from them a year before Katrina and they were so wonderful in getting her prescription diet for me after the storm. These people lost alot of animals during the storm but through it all they have purservered

  • wow i really cried...this is really touching...i could just think of my lil baby bubbies goin thru tht...lord have mercy...god bless

  • Its so amazing that after enduring all of that, emmaciated left behind and scared that even those "viscous" pit bulls had love left in them.

  • I went to NOLA 4 times to work with animal rescue. I can't watch this video. Some nights I still can't sleep because of images like this in my brain.

  • "Reality has hit me harder than before. You put it in perspective and the song made it all the more real. I cried and I know no matter how many times I watch it I will cry when I do. It is one of those things that embedds a place in your heart. Perhaps this will help others realize the true importance of what the animal rescuers are doing. Thank you for making it it is genious and heart warming and touching."

  • wow

  • this video is testament to the turly forgotten ones. never before has this song had such meaning to me. God Bless you and yours, my friend
