  • This song reminds me of my best friend -3 I miss you Esther! :'(

  • This song sorta relates to my life right now :'(

  • favorite!!!

  • :(

  • I love this song so much...

  • This song is a real tear dropper :'(...

  • Heard this on csi ny just now, love my song recogniser aha

  • Lets just all agree this is an amazing song(:

  • i love this song. thumbs up if you hve this song on replay :*

  • I like this version more than the other one!!

  • @Hitsugakuya6695 she is creating a scenario in which samson had a first love. She sings from her perspective. The perspective in which she was samson's and he was hers, but their love was never mentioned in the bible. Its a sad tale and every time she sings "i loved you first" i get goosebumps, because she sings with so much heart. One might think she lived back then.

  • Oh My i love this

  • ILOVETHISSONG!:]

  • @sguas27 well I was talking more about Samson but I get what you are saying

  • this version is more simple, beautiful, open, feeling!

  • I wish this slower version was on iTunes. It's one of the most beautiful song's I've ever heard. this slower one sounds a tad bit more melancholy. brilliant.

  • @bassaltotreble You actually can. She recorded to different versions, for two different albums. I believe this version is on her album "Song." And the faster version is on Begin To Hope. Hopefully this helped.

  • i loved you first

  • "I love to fart" You cant un hear it.

  • @Shaelinie Oh God. You're right.

  • But the Bible does mention Samson

  • @Hitsugakuya6695 It doesn't mention her and Samson, but it mentions Samson and Delilah.

  • This song reminds me of a woman I used to like...

  • Comment removed

  • It's based on the story of Samson and Delilah. Delilah cut Samson's hair to steal his strength, in the biblical story. I think this is just a spin on that story, in which Delilah and Samson are free to love each other without strife and fighting and just be together quietly (bible never mentioned us).

  • can anyone explain what this song is exactly about? i cant really get the meaning :S

but i love the melody anyway (:

  • @violin0728 I'm not 100% sue but I think that Samson and her loved each other and then he got cancer, making him lose his hair ( Your hair was long when we first met ) and she feels like she still doesn't want to let go ?????

  • i love the snowflakes with this :)

  • this song is awesome but OH GOD THE COMIC SANS IT BURNS

  • @juliewasneverhere LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wasnt the only one!

  • i love this song, when it's added to a tv series or movie makes it sadder

  • nakaka miss ang song nato..

  • i fully love metal, black metal. screamo and all that dark stuff, but this song is still fucking amazing to me.

  • @YourFavoriteRanga I concur.

  • Its about her friend who had cancer. His hair had to be cut before chemo. And all he could eat was wonder bread cuz thats all that didnt taste like metal.

  • SDTG. :)

  • most beautiful song.. ever. period.

  • This song makes me cry

  • thumbs up if until now (2011) you're still listening to this song! :)) LSS. -- YOU ARE MY SWEETEST DOWNFALL. <3

  • And when her boyfriend had cancer all he could really eat was a slice of bread (wonder bread) because he was so weak. Just a little info for you guys. I'm sure you can find more about it on the Internet if you google a bit

  • It has nothing to do with the bible or Sampson... It's about her boyfriend having cancer and having to cut his hair. Not everything is so literal guys :) some people are deeper than that

  • The song says the Bible didn't mention Samson and Delilah, but it did. The story of Samson and Delilah is in 2 Kings and Delilah was working with the enemy. She had deceived him, she didn't love him.

  • @TheRealmOfInara Actually, it's not talking about Delilah in the song, is it. It's talking about Samson's first wife but their marriage failed... So, this song is talking about how the Philistine wife-- the first failed wife of Samson is talking about how the bible never really mentioned any great triumphs of love about them. If you also look at it, the actions that the wife is talking about is very awkward signaling the fact that their love is fading away but the wife still loves Samson.

  • @mrshadowbehindme but the song says "i cut his hair my self one night" and thats what Delilah did...isnt it??

  • @bigbadroo13 No. Delilah called for a nameless man to cut Samson's hair. Now, let's use analogy here. Regina Spektor mentions that "the Bible never really mentioned us" which must address that Spektor's talking about Samson's first wife. Now, since the Bible never really mentioned them, We can don't have a defense against whether or not she cut Samson's hair too. Her lyrics pertain to most of the literal meanings that may be annotated differently by people. The same goes for Oedipus by her.

  • @mrshadowbehindme Why would she mention wonder bread, then?

  • @MeepingDino but what exactly IS the significance of wonder bread? All I'm doing is questioning the thought of probability.

  • @TheRealmOfInara i think that it mean that it didnt talk about when she did love him ..cause it says beneath the paper lies my truth...and im guessing its talking about a time where she had loved him...or somthing like that

  • All her songs are very meaning full the second or third song even mor ethen the first time !

  • I think the song is about one of Spektor's loves AND the first wife of Samson in the bible. Samsonw as married when he Delilah and the bible only mentions his first wife in passing. So it's like her sad love song to Samson, "I Loved You First".

  • timeless song

  • what is this song about? bread and hair and love... idk someone explain. i love it but i dont get it.

  • @Alyssa987321654 Well, in the story of Samson and Delilah, Delilah cuts Samson's hair so that he loses his god-given strength. This song basically is kind of about a woman who ruined a man, but feels like he was *her* downfall, not the other way around. It's kind of a slice-of-life song about two people who loved each other, but couldn't do it.

  • my ex-fiance's and my song we always listend to. it would get to the part about cutting his hair, we would always be driving by this field, and she would kiss me on the cheek and say "ill always love you". so much for that. god i hate my life. that was over a year ago.

  • This song makes me think of my first love.

Wow, that was painful and full of memories...

  • Never has the word wonder bread sounded so poetic!!

  • my lastname is Samson

  • This song always makes me feel close to crying. its just the way she sings it, and the meaning of course, but it's mostly the way she sings it. So emotional. I love Regina Spektor. <3

  • Thank fuck someone put the good version of this song up. The one from Begin to hope isn't so good.

  • Her songs are actually meaningful, not just random stuff crammed together about some teenager's crush, ruined with autotune. She can actually sing and she's smart. Thumbs up if Regina Spektor is awesome.

  • @weaslytherin You don't have to say thumbs up. :) she is. Love her.

  • Her songs are actually meaningful, not just random stuff crammed together about some teenager's crush, ruined with autotune. She can actually sing and she's smart.

  • I love it when people say,"If i get 100 thumbs up ill sing this.." Yeah well if your singing at your school talent show we're not even gna see.

  • God now i miss her.

  • Pop chliches, pop cliches and more pop cliches, typical contrived, basic chords, but you know what, it's a good song

  • @schclum Whaaat? Did you even listen to the lyrics? What exactly about the story of Samson and Delilah told in a different light is a pop cliche?

  • @geegeezlouis86 the lyrics are unique... but lyrics have nothing to do with musical style. I could have a heavy metal song about raincoats and a jazz song about buddha... am i right? I like the song, I'm actually admiring it's simplicity, it just came out sounding negative. i believe less is more

  • i lost my best friend to cancer. i have never gotten over it. i broke down when listening to this, but if i get 100 thumbs up i'll sing it at my school musical recital. i'm not trying to copy anyone i just think it will make me stronger if i'm able to sing this to others.

  • @ciaralaveexo you should just sing, cause you want and not cause of 100 thumbs up...my opinion ;) do it for your friend...

  • This song is so beautifull.. and so sad. Awesome voice

  • what is the story of the song? love it! <3

  • @heyheybea its aso a bible story..

  • @dreasmsicle777 ohhhhhhhh. thanks :)

  • @BlackCurtainTV actually I think it was a boyfriend of hers.

  • to all you people who dont know this song is about her friend who got cancer

you can interpret certain parts however you want

but im pretty sure it is, if you pay attention you can tell

  • I love this song!!!!

  • At school the other day, I was listening to this on my iPod before school actually started. I broke down crying, as I do whenever I listen to this song.

I'll always love you, but you'll never know. I loved you first. You're my sweetest downfall.

  • What a sad song, when you really think about it.

  • everytime....i cry so hard. i love you.

  • i just lost my Granny to cancer at 3:35am today on tuesday, september 20 2011

and i love this song and have been playing it all day

  • @gabbie2snazzy ; : ( I'm sorry to hear that. When my 1st Grandmother died, I felt like I lost my best friend. A couple of years later, my Grandmother I'm named after passed away...and I felt a deep sadness. Sometimes, I have dreams about them : ) they are either telling me something or my family members, or I'm telling them that I love them or miss them. I try not to think about "how" they died, but of how they affected my life in a positive way. They were awesome women! God Bless You

  • @gabbie2snazzy I'm so sorry.

  • It's about samson's lover before Delilah

  • she's pretty religious isn't she? all of her songs have at least one sentence that is somehow related to god.......

  • @noisette91 Actually, she's more of an agnostic, based off an interview she did in New York. At times she said, she thinks the atheists are "awesome" and at time she finds theists to be the same. I think her focus on religiosity has a lot to do with her Jewish identity, but more in an ethnic sense than religious sense. The interview, I think, is still on YouTube.

  • @MeepingDino Exactly.

  • Whammo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I did a cover of this song.. I was hoping someone would watch it :) thanks

  • @XssuuppbbrrooX I'm pretty sure they didn't have wonder bread back then... So I doubt that's what it's about

  • this song brings tears to my eyes because she says in the beginning she says he had "long hair when they first met" and then at the end she had to" I cut his hair myself one night,That he said she did alright..." ..

  • For you guys who think it's about Samson and Delilah... I don't think they had wonder bread back then...?

  • This is beautiful<3

  • very emotional voice. suits the song very well

  • Wow, just now that i realized that it was not a story about samson and delilah. this was epic. gave me goosebumps.

  • do you know what album this is from? i can't find this version anywhere and it's the best. i am in love witht this song.

  • this is music <3

  • Listened to this about 20x on repeat -3

  • The song doesnt have to JUST be about the Bible or JUST about Regina's friend! It can be both or either, theres no right or wrong answer. It s a beautiful song, enjoy it.

  • @missRstapleton No. If she wrote it about one of the two, then that is the one it's about. It can be interpreted however one would like, but in the end it's still about whatever she wrote it about.

  • @sasuke1788 Yeah, -she- could have written it about both. using the story of Samson and Delilah as a metaphor for her friend or vic versa, or witing about different elemtns of both at diffrent timesin the song. unless her friend with cancer literally couldnt bring down columns or they had Wonderbread in ancient Israel, its pretty safe to say thers either metaphors or crossin gstories going on here

  • I love this song and Regina Spektor.

  • i like the cancer story better than the samson and delilah one ..... its more sad that way :(

  • this song is NOT about her friend named 'samson' with cancer, it's about samson & delilah, it's their story told my delilah's perspective. it's an old biblical story that was left out of the bible when they were writing it. LOOK IT UP, it's legit. Samson was a really powerful man whose long hair gave him superpowers & some bad guys paid delilah to find his weakness & destroy it. They fell in love & samson revealed his hair was what made him powerful, so she cut it off when he was sleeping.

  • @ lovebeiber15 that's really sad!!! I hope she recovers soon :)

  • My sister has cancer.

  • I thought this song was about Samson from the Bible..like his long hair when him and Delilah first met.

  • @QueenBekahForever me too!

  • This song is about cancer right?

  • Awwwwww. <3 Now that I know that he had cancer, it all makes sense. :( <3

  • My names Samson.

  • @SammySizzonic: And mine is Delilah.

  • I love this version so much better! The tempo is right for the feeling. I'm so in love with samson right now.

  • @jupiterflunk92

But you didn't love him first >:D

  • Love It ;)

  • I love this song so so much!

  • Samson was a lucky person to have known a woman as sweet and loving as Regina.

  • This song is from the first album my husband and I ever bought together. It always brings back such beautiful memories.

  • this song ... -___-

  • love this song so much. she's the ultimate reason for his failure, but he kissed her till the morning light anyway. :)

  • Does me too. Every time I hear it. But mine is a sad cry for an ex girlfriend.

  • @bplemings same

  • I don't know why, but this song makes me cry. A good cry, like I needed to get it out or something. :)

  • 0:00

    pause

    Google "rainy mood"

play this video while "rainy mood" is on

    Enjoy <3

  • As to the bible story part, I think it focuss only on the hair and power part but the love and betrayal part. He had used to be adorable and full of energy. But now with the loss of hair (the same circumstance as the bible story) he was weak.

However, he couldn't get his power back by beging the God, he's just a common person. No hero, no miracle. He lost his life strength gratually and eventually died. Sad song to memorize a good friend.

  • I think it is about her friend who got cancer and she DID cut his hair hor him.

We all know that through the chemical therapy people lose their hair.

So Sampson knew that eventually he would lose all his hair. He went to the singer, asking her to cut his hair for him. So that he didn't "lose" his hair, he just "had" it cut by a good friend.

  • This song is about cancer, jeez people think about it, she uses the story but makes it about cancer

  • I'm so confused.

Okay, if it's actually about Samson and Delilah, the wonderbread doesn't add up.

Then I heard it was about her cancer-inflicted friend, which makes a little more sense. Maybe that's the point of the song: it has multiple meanings, at which point I would point out that you all have an opinion, so instead of swearing and sounding unintelligent, you should just realize that you're right and not rub it in other people's faces.

  • Its like trying to keep spiderman from climbing walls. Stay at home and love me instead.

  • Look up why she cut his hair. :) no more powers, lol

  • if i get 100 thumbs up i'll sing this at my school talent show

  • @Lizbroome12

Funny, I sung Fidelity at a talent show once. :T

I wish I could of sung this song in grade 8. I hope the song works out for you. c:

  • @Lizbroome12 you'vd better sing this now xD It's almost 200

  • @Lizbroome12 pic or it didn't happen.

  • @Lizbroome12

Does getting 200 means you have to sing it twice? ;)

  • why was her hair red??

  • @chescacastro123 no idea.

  • @2people23 i never 100% had faith that there was a man in the sky and all that bullshit, and supposely Jesus/God wants all his believers to not doubt and have complete faith in them for your prayers to work.

Fuck all that, it's just a lie to me.

  • @2people23 i don't believe in the bible or any religon, doesn't make sense to me.

    I use to be Christian/Catholic.

And it's all intresting but bullshit in my view

  • @OFWGKTA420 how does it make no sense to you.. You USE TO BE a christian? u just woke up one day and it didnt make sense..?

  • @OFWGKTA420 It makes sense if you try having a relationship with Jesus. Nothing else matters but that. I'm not saying you never did, I'm only suggesting that you think about it again. I've never been happier than when I met Him. <3

  • i love this song

  • Theres two meanings here to me, one is that shes comparing samson to her current lover and has let her cut his hair making him weak, thus showing his love for her by sacrificing his strength to allow her into his heart.

The other is the retelling of samson and delilah as a truth from delilahs prospective and her showing that samson gave up his secret out of love and the world wrote lies about it to dirty her name hence " Beneath the paper sheets lies my truth" the bible painted her as a whore.

  • he asked God for one more act of strength, and he knocked down the 4 columns and everyone in the palace died.

The moral pretty much is relationships will either make you or break you, and how one person can harm you alot.

    It's pretty tight.

  • @OFWGKTA420 someone who knows so much abt the bible has such a username..

  • But she was just in it for the money from the persians. So she was suppose to figure out his secret. And at first when she ask he'd lie to her and stuff, they'd try to set him up. And he'd kill all the persians. So he finally got tired and told her the secret. "i have never let anything cut my hair"

So while they slept the persians came in and tied him up and shaved his head.

He woke up and was completely powerless and everyone was celebrating his defeat and torturing him and stuff. And he ask

  • Amazing song

    I'll make it quick.

    It's a christianity story.

    Bible days type shit.

Basically, Samson was this man blessed by God. And he had the most strength ever. He was literally the strongest man. He'd fight off whole villages and beasts and kill everything

And the Persians wanted and needed to defeat him.

And his only one weakness was girls.

So the Persians got this girl Deliah and they encountered and after a while. Samson fell inlove with her. And he believed she loved him.

    But she was ju

  • Wat does the song mean? I don't get it

  • i love to fart,

    i love to fart,

    i love to fart XD

  • @saiyangirl22 Don't we all. ;)

  • @NekoAlias haha, it sounds like she is saying that XD

  • this song is about her friend named "samson" who died of cancer and she is explaining through the song that their story wasn't important enough to be in the "history books" or "bible" and that all that he could eat was wonder bread a.k.a. soft foods because of his chemo that made it hard to digest and eat. It is a very sad story. :(

  • @pinkgal9595 no it isnt

  • @pupprincess23

    Then what is it about?

  • @iwillmakeittonnyc you know when in the bible didnt mention us it ment they didnt mention there love well if your a christian you probly know what there talking about its the story of delilah and samson in the bible

  • @iwillmakeittonnyc i mean she comparing her love to samson and delilah

  • @pupprincess23

not to sound stupid or anything, but who's delilah?

  • @iwillmakeittonnyc find out yourself geez

  • @pupprincess23

Nevermind I know who she is. But how is she comparing her love?

  • @pinkgal9595

My opinion is that she’s re-telling her story of a good friend who died from Cancer, by using references the Bible story of Samson.

  • @pinkgal9595 *of the

  • @pinkgal9595 But she has made it so it at first sounds like she sings about the samson from the religious story´s right?

  • @pinkgal9595 there story was sad?? :-(

  • @pinkgal9595 sry, but i want to clarify something. the bible last chapter is the revelation. LAST Chapter. nothing more is added. the song about samson is sad, but remember, Revelations is the final chapter, and nothing else is added. it would be added, but its too late.

  • @pinkgal9595 but it also clearly referrs to samson from the bible because of the hair thing

  • @pinkgal9595 HAHAHAHAHAHAHA your stupidity cracks me up! I hope you were just joking and I can't pick up on sarcasm...

  • @pinkgal9595 ya no.

  • @pinkgal9595 It's about the bible story of Samson and Delilah. :|
