My cousin's dog is a 1YO Lab female. She is a food addict. I'm unable to train her for anything because she ONLY wants my dog treats. If I throw something for her to fetch, she looks at me as if to say "Why the heck should I get it? You have the food in your hand." So she doesn't seem so eager to please, but only eager to eat. How would you teach a food addict, self-indulgent type of dog?

@LeftistUprising oh I remember working with food addict dogs. I'd say work on curving her food addiction before anything else. It'll make it easier to work with her with when she's not obsessed with food 27/7.

@Spongebobnopantzz I would resolv this jumping problem by... When the dog lifts it's front laws off the ground, make a couple of short sharp noises like clapping or a very loud mouth noise to destract the dog from jumping and to check out what the noise was. I would advise a "clicker" for this training. Hope this works for you! :D

Hello,tab289! i am a proud "mom"of 2 big hounds, and one of them isnt really safe for children: doesnt know how to receive a treat gently (bites) and inconveniently jumps at me and sometimes other people when excited, wich culminates in me falling some of the times...LMAO..Even though i repreend her for those actions she doesnt seem to stop...Is there anything you can tell me that can help correct that behavior?Please!! Tab289 - do you have another way of teaching this? My dog used her paw to take the tape off, but the next day she really did not want me putting the tape on at all (in fact, she rolled over on her back and acting a bit scared). I even tried giving her treats as I showed her the tape but she was not having it.

@Leneras1988 Try moving the tape to a different spot or use a post it note instead. I had to use a post it note and stick it in between his eyes so that the note was actually in his field of vision which made him paw at it.

okay, here's the thing, my puppy (1 year) is also very smart and even learnt to close a door within 10 mins but unfortunately he is proving to have no common sense and when i put tape on his nose, he sits there quite happily and ignores it!! is there any other way i can get him to do this action?

i have a westie and she is so food motivated that she just jumps and goes crazy when she realises i have food and when i got her to finally lie down she shaked her face side to side when i tried putting the tape and it did not stick , when i finally managed to place the tape on her face she didnt seem to mind and just carried on as if nothing is on her face :/

Just taught my dog this. We used duct tape (scotch won't stick) after just having watched your video & she was pretty consistently doing it with just the verbal command in five minutes. Changing to the sitting position distracted & confused her, but after just three more minutes of trying in the sit position, she was doing it that way as well with no hand signals. Thank you for posting this. P.S. We used the command "Be Shy". I recorded it and may post it here!
