  • lol "always start the car". right on little dude, keep on truckin

  • looks like he's been doing his homework

  • nice done, but once you're behind the steering wheel you'll see it's not that simple. not because you don't know, but you'll have to get used to it. anyway, if canada is anything like the usa then 8 out of ten drivers never drove a stick shift. man if i ever were to drive an automatic i think i'll fall asleep. STICK SHIFT ROCKS!!!

  • WOW clever kid, though in UK everyone drives manual.

A bit more info on dropping gears for turns:

You can either drop directly to 2nd gear or work ur way down, to stop the jerking you can either rev match by accelerating a bit whilst at biting point with the clutch, (REV match) or the simple way slow down enough.

  • Hes so smart for his age too! lols

  • haha when i started watching this video i was thinking about hating on this kid, but then i kept watching and realized that this kid is a stud.. at 13 he can frickin drive stick. Not only that, he can actually talk like an educated human being rather than an average american 13 yr old. this kid deserves props. LOLS

  • smart kid! im 16 i dont even know(didnt now) how 2 put it in reverse! damn

  • heeh... now now i am in 16 year old. i can fly the B747 now expect A380 for PRO only..

  • You could teach my 56 year old dad a thing or two about manual..

  • Holy fuck he is changing the speeds and i hear the noises but the car is not moving...WITCHCRAFT

  • Awesome tutorial dude! You remind me of me when i was 15, before i even got my license i was learning and practicing stick. Just a word of advice to all the people out there, you dont need to ride the clutch when coming to a stop nor do you need to downshift through all the gears sequentially. You can just throw the car into neutral and stop accordingly. Now if you need to stop faster than normal, a downshift to the correct gear is necessary though. However normally, just neutral and then brake.

  • nice vid

  • how does he know all that stuff. he is only thirteen!

  • that kid is gonna in the next fast & the furious lol

  • e-brake, does the 'e' stand for emergency? Might sound a strange question but I've always known the particualr brake as a 'hand brake'. Good video too by the way :D

  • Real men drive stick shift!

  • good job

  • Smart kid. Great job and great explanation.

  • dude real good job!

im 13 also and my dad works 4 ford and brings home mustang g.t's alot and i always shift 4 him its pretty fun manuals r the way 2 go!!

  • hey good job kid honestly guys it doesnt matter the age to know alot about cars. i mean yeah so hes like 4 years younger than he should be driving but hey it doesnt hurt to study the technique, and this kid proves it. excellent "how to" video man good work hope your generation are a lot smarter drivers and such. probably by then no ones gonna be driving though cuz gas prices are gonna be like what, 8 bucks a gallon? ahahah

  • Awesome video I love Manuals till the Clutch goes out. Shops charge upwards of 1000 Dollars. This kids cute. Try driving in Vegas on Friday rush our on the strip. Small towns are easy to learn how to drive in. I had to learn in Vegas with a short-tempered Dad it was fun not

  • i freaking love driving manual. its so much more fun than automatic.

  • Bravo!! i knew deep down inside that canadians are better than americans. LOOK their kids can drive better than a majority of the adults here [in the good ol' u s of A]!!

But major props to ya dude.

  • good job man

  • thats the best explanation ive seen on youtube ever! Good job

  • Pretty cool kid! Most people these days don't know crap about stick shift and its nice to see younger kids getting more and more involved.

    A+

  • ur right... A+

    hehehe

  • yo im only 10 and i could drive stick too!

  • Holy Hell!! this kid knows his SHit foo!! lol

  • Very nice :P

  • Funny, I bet he's better driver than 75% of the people in USA.

Manual shifting is real driving :)

  • heck yeah! I mean I dont drive a manual cuz I dont have it but Im so getting one

  • heck yeah! I mean I dont drive a manual cuz I dont have it but Im so getting one

  • Pretty much right, but if its in neutral you don't need the clutch engaged when you start the engine because you cant stall, and these days you don't need to downshift because stalling speeds are lower. Also if you don't have it in neutral when you come to a stop you need to engage the clutch.

  • You do need the clutch in to start the car in manual. Don't diss some 13 year old when he has more knowledge than you. Dunce.

  • you're right, the car can't stall while starting when its in neutral, but newer cars require you to apply the clutch when starting.

  • It still helps to disengage (hold down) the clutch when starting your engine, especailly in cold weather, on older cars, and often with small diesel engines, this helps starting by disconnecting the engine from the transmission (which will create resistance even when in neutral the engine still has to turn those gears)and on newer models this habbot reduces wear and tear on the engine, that is why it is a great habbot to get in to.

  • It is easier on the engine to start with the clutch pedel pressed, if it isn't the starter has to turn the engine and the gears inside the transmission, disengaging the clutch helps by making only the engine turn.

  • u have to hold down the clutch to start the car or else it wont start

    now lets see him drive

  • he already said when u start the car always hold down the clutch @ 0:13

  • u have to hold down the clutch to start the car or else it wont start

    now lets see him drive

  • he already said when u start the car always hold down the clutch @ 0:13

  • you really did a good job, you should have told them about double shifting but its still good.

  • people are just lazy, they need automatic

  • okay nice video..but as you lower RPMS to stop, you dont need to go through lower gears you can just put it back in neutral, unless your downshifting for a turn or something else.

  • u can drive?!?!

  • in case u guys r interested, the most fuel efficient time of shifting is between 2 and 3 thousand rpms

  • depends on the type of the engine

  • Nice vid. Sounds like you gonna be a good driver when it's time :) I can post a vid while im driving my volvo =)

  • Haha good job kid. You should come over here to my school, where they dont know ANYTHING about sticks. All they know is how to drive an auto. Again, great job.

  • FYI Guys - That Topaz is on blocks and isn't running! We just use it as a manual transmission "simulator"!!

  • very good the only thing never put ur foot on the gas pedal wen the car is not started as it can flood the carberetta( dont no how to spell it)

  • it's true

  • nice video slick, you're wise beyond your years.

  • well done kid, you should be teaching most o.a.p's how to drive over here in the uk.

  • LOL! I really want to move to London, England. Funny that you say that!

  • i love standard. people scared of standard are gay. im also 13

  • true that....dude standard is waaaaayyyy more fun than auto

  • it is a shame that you cant get a utility van with a standard. For the type of work i do for a living it is necessary for me to have a service van to carry myy tools and equipment. But you can not find a full size utility van with a stick, their all automatic transmission. This really pisses me off.

  • lol its a good video kid but lets see you actually move the car.

  • Thanks for the positive comments everyone! Make sure to check out my new video, my sled.

  • ah. finally more people like me x_x

im 15 and i know how to drive stick, and when i ask other people if they learned they scream "NEVER!" and people i know who have their license also are afraid of stick. i think america is too used to auto and stick is being forgotten.

  • i agree...but people are missing out...stick is way more fun!

  • great job kid!

  • damn!!!! what a hoss 13 year old!! just need to get this stunner a lambrogini and hell be pickin the ladies

  • Very good kid. One thing though. You should never ride the clutch when downshifting, unless you have to do a multiple heel & toe.

  • damn, maby that kid actually knows what to do,but has he ever drove a manual car?

my uncle tought me when i was 12 and i use to drive his volts wogon on big parking lots.but still, keep up da good work!

  • haha i like that. "first thing to do- always start the car"

  • One driving instructor coming up -

  • One instructor coming up -

  • got VTEC int that thing?????

  • LOL!! '88 Toaz with VTEC! That would be awesome!!!!

  • kid knows

once you get to know a car, there are certain rpm zones in each gear where you don't need the clutch to shift. for example, on MK4 2L Jettas in second gear, somewhere around 3800rpm, you can free shift into 3rd, and 4200 to 4th etc

325is '96 is similar, in and around the same zones, except lower rpm.

  • good stuff for a 13 year old

  • that kid knows his shit, good job

  • wow. i'm 23 and i'm learning stick shift from someone 10 years younger.

    great job dude!

  • just to remember for beginners you don't press the clutch all the way down when you switch from 1st to 2nd gear it will cause your car to tingle.

  • Can your car stall if your in 3rd gear and dont let of the gas to chande gears? id like to know can sum one please tell me

  • If you're holding the clutch, the car will only rev but it's probably best to take your foot off of the gas as you are depressing the clutch, even though it probably won't stall. It's best to not try it!

  • nope it won't stall but it would be a good idea to rem your foot of the gas

  • woootttt damn son get this boy into drifting.

  • nice thats the age I started 2 drive manual but im 14 now so only like a year ago. nice video

  • Great video, he really knows what he's talking about...He explained it better than I could of, and ive got a driving license!

  • too good for a 13 years old

  • this is the clearest guide i've seen. congrats

  • if i follow your in i will be dead already no just kiding you did a good job i am only 12 and i want to know how to drive a stick to but my dad dont have a stick car so ya nice video :)

  • nice dillan

  • Very cool video! only one thing, riding the clutch to stop is a bad idea because it will wear out your clutch, best way to stop is just brake in your current gear, and when your are about to stop pop it into neutral, that or if your not going above 45mph throw it into 2nd since in 2nd gear you can keep the car rolling pretty slow w/o clutching.

  • how is it hard on the clutch? as long as you depress the clutch pedal firmly and swiftly, it should be instantly disconnected from the tranny without wearing out the clutch face do to partial connection to the transmission.

  • OMG, a 13 year old can drive. I can't :( Nooooo

    Nicve video btw

  • wow.!!
