nice done, but once you're behind the steering wheel you'll see it's not that simple. not because you don't know, but you'll have to get used to it. anyway, if canada is anything like the usa then 8 out of ten drivers never drove a stick shift. man if i ever were to drive an automatic i think i'll fall asleep. STICK SHIFT ROCKS!!!
WOW clever kid, though in UK everyone drives manual.
A bit more info on dropping gears for turns:
You can either drop directly to 2nd gear or work ur way down, to stop the jerking you can either rev match by accelerating a bit whilst at biting point with the clutch, (REV match) or the simple way slow down enough.
haha when i started watching this video i was thinking about hating on this kid, but then i kept watching and realized that this kid is a stud.. at 13 he can frickin drive stick. Not only that, he can actually talk like an educated human being rather than an average american 13 yr old. this kid deserves props. LOLS
Awesome tutorial dude! You remind me of me when i was 15, before i even got my license i was learning and practicing stick. Just a word of advice to all the people out there, you dont need to ride the clutch when coming to a stop nor do you need to downshift through all the gears sequentially. You can just throw the car into neutral and stop accordingly. Now if you need to stop faster than normal, a downshift to the correct gear is necessary though. However normally, just neutral and then brake.
lol i know how to drive manual never drove a car manual thoug drove like a bike with a truck bed in the back back from teh 80's i am 13 no hydrolics the clutch hurts my fingers lol
your a good guide , but when it comes to driving for the first even if you watch a tousand videos , you'll forget everything , it happened to me when i drove for the first time , but believe me , you'll get better with practice . go to an open parking and just drive
I drove my first stick shift at 10.. it was a 1983 chevy pickup since then ive been driving all the time i fell in love with it.. ive gotten into drag racing alot.. u can check out some of my races with out of order or ooo
Nice video. Me...I don't even look at the RPM when my car get loud loud in 1st like WHAAAAAAAA...I switch gears....I mean I don't sit there and wait for it to blow the engine lol NO...you know waaa click waaaaa click wahaaaaaa Kinda like that....I (15 years old drive a Automatic Ford F-F-150 and a Automatic Cadillac. Mom dont really like Stick shifts LOL....But I'm buying the truck off her. I'll put a video up of the truck and me driving the truck...its a big truck.
damn, this kid knows his stuff.... and doesn't even have a license... well I guess if you live on a farm/have a lot of land, you can teach your kid to drive once they get tall enough to see over the steering wheel and reach the pedals
I learned to drive in a 1986 Ford Ranger 2.9 V6 5 speed, i was 9 years old, i am now 24 and i still often drive that pickup, people tell me i drive it very well, i wonder why......
god fucking dmait that kid is smart, right on little dude :) but shifting at 3000 is kinda high for normal driving, mabey at 24-2500 would be safer and do less damage to your motor, but still great vid kid

e-brake, does the 'e' stand for emergency? Might sound a strange question but I've always known the particualr brake as a 'hand brake'. Good video too by the way :D
hey good job kid honestly guys it doesnt matter the age to know alot about cars. i mean yeah so hes like 4 years younger than he should be driving but hey it doesnt hurt to study the technique, and this kid proves it. excellent "how to" video man good work hope your generation are a lot smarter drivers and such. probably by then no ones gonna be driving though cuz gas prices are gonna be like what, 8 bucks a gallon? ahahah
Awesome video I love Manuals till the Clutch goes out. Shops charge upwards of 1000 Dollars. This kids cute. Try driving in Vegas on Friday rush our on the strip. Small towns are easy to learn how to drive in. I had to learn in Vegas with a short-tempered Dad it was fun not
Bravo!! i knew deep down inside that canadians are better than americans. LOOK their kids can drive better than a majority of the adults here [in the good ol' u s of A]!!
Pretty much right, but if its in neutral you don't need the clutch engaged when you start the engine because you cant stall, and these days you don't need to downshift because stalling speeds are lower. Also if you don't have it in neutral when you come to a stop you need to engage the clutch.
It still helps to disengage (hold down) the clutch when starting your engine, especailly in cold weather, on older cars, and often with small diesel engines, this helps starting by disconnecting the engine from the transmission (which will create resistance even when in neutral the engine still has to turn those gears)and on newer models this habbot reduces wear and tear on the engine, that is why it is a great habbot to get in to.
It is easier on the engine to start with the clutch pedel pressed, if it isn't the starter has to turn the engine and the gears inside the transmission, disengaging the clutch helps by making only the engine turn.
okay nice video..but as you lower RPMS to stop, you dont need to go through lower gears you can just put it back in neutral, unless your downshifting for a turn or something else.
Haha good job kid. You should come over here to my school, where they dont know ANYTHING about sticks. All they know is how to drive an auto. Again, great job.
it is a shame that you cant get a utility van with a standard. For the type of work i do for a living it is necessary for me to have a service van to carry myy tools and equipment. But you can not find a full size utility van with a stick, their all automatic transmission. This really pisses me off.
im 15 and i know how to drive stick, and when i ask other people if they learned they scream "NEVER!" and people i know who have their license also are afraid of stick. i think america is too used to auto and stick is being forgotten.
once you get to know a car, there are certain rpm zones in each gear where you don't need the clutch to shift. for example, on MK4 2L Jettas in second gear, somewhere around 3800rpm, you can free shift into 3rd, and 4200 to 4th etc
325is '96 is similar, in and around the same zones, except lower rpm.
If you're holding the clutch, the car will only rev but it's probably best to take your foot off of the gas as you are depressing the clutch, even though it probably won't stall. It's best to not try it!
if i follow your in i will be dead already no just kiding you did a good job i am only 12 and i want to know how to drive a stick to but my dad dont have a stick car so ya nice video :)
Very cool video! only one thing, riding the clutch to stop is a bad idea because it will wear out your clutch, best way to stop is just brake in your current gear, and when your are about to stop pop it into neutral, that or if your not going above 45mph throw it into 2nd since in 2nd gear you can keep the car rolling pretty slow w/o clutching.
how is it hard on the clutch? as long as you depress the clutch pedal firmly and swiftly, it should be instantly disconnected from the tranny without wearing out the clutch face do to partial connection to the transmission.

people are just lazy, they need automatic
mansourJmansour 4 years ago 8
okay nice video..but as you lower RPMS to stop, you dont need to go through lower gears you can just put it back in neutral, unless your downshifting for a turn or something else.
ohsocute77 4 years ago 2
u can drive?!?!
dodobird116 4 years ago
in case u guys r interested, the most fuel efficient time of shifting is between 2 and 3 thousand rpms

Haha good job kid. You should come over here to my school, where they dont know ANYTHING about sticks. All they know is how to drive an auto. Again, great job.

FYI Guys - That Topaz is on blocks and isn't running! We just use it as a manual transmission "simulator"!!

i love standard. people scared of standard are gay. im also 13
penisheadmofobitch 4 years ago
true that....dude standard is waaaaayyyy more fun than auto
abnorm2006 4 years ago
it is a shame that you cant get a utility van with a standard. For the type of work i do for a living it is necessary for me to have a service van to carry myy tools and equipment. But you can not find a full size utility van with a stick, their all automatic transmission. This really pisses me off.

lol its a good video kid but lets see you actually move the car.

ah. finally more people like me x_x
im 15 and i know how to drive stick, and when i ask other people if they learned they scream "NEVER!" and people i know who have their license also are afraid of stick. i think america is too used to auto and stick is being forgotten.
ArashixArashi 4 years ago
i agree...but people are missing out...stick is way more fun!

Very good kid. One thing though. You should never ride the clutch when downshifting, unless you have to do a multiple heel & toe.

kid knows
once you get to know a car, there are certain rpm zones in each gear where you don't need the clutch to shift. for example, on MK4 2L Jettas in second gear, somewhere around 3800rpm, you can free shift into 3rd, and 4200 to 4th etc
325is '96 is similar, in and around the same zones, except lower rpm.

jo4nny 4 years ago
just to remember for beginners you don't press the clutch all the way down when you switch from 1st to 2nd gear it will cause your car to tingle.
thedragonsaver 4 years ago
Can your car stall if your in 3rd gear and dont let of the gas to chande gears? id like to know can sum one please tell me
RAD6324 4 years ago
If you're holding the clutch, the car will only rev but it's probably best to take your foot off of the gas as you are depressing the clutch, even though it probably won't stall. It's best to not try it!
pda998 4 years ago
nope it won't stall but it would be a good idea to rem your foot of the gas

nice dillan
zachdk 4 years ago
Very cool video! only one thing, riding the clutch to stop is a bad idea because it will wear out your clutch, best way to stop is just brake in your current gear, and when your are about to stop pop it into neutral, that or if your not going above 45mph throw it into 2nd since in 2nd gear you can keep the car rolling pretty slow w/o clutching.
Slimpack4321 4 years ago
how is it hard on the clutch? as long as you depress the clutch pedal firmly and swiftly, it should be instantly disconnected from the tranny without wearing out the clutch face do to partial connection to the transmission.
