this is the last US F5, not the last F5 all together. the true last F5 was the Elie, Manitoba tornado in 2007. ironically, its Canada's First F5 tornado.
This was the last F5 tornado because it was so powerful that they had to change the scale. The old scale went to 275 mph if my memory serves me right. This tornado had the highest windspeed EVER recorded on Earth 318 mph!!! The loss of life was minimal because Gary Englund (weatherman) was telling everyone that this tornado is an absolute killer and that you are not safe inside ANY building. That you need to be underground or it will kill you!
Here is your distinction, and some ground breaking tornado news........blah blah blah blah blah blah, and you all will like ever bit of it! Yeeeeeeeeeeee Hawwwwwwwwwwwww yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, alriiiiiiiiiiiiiiight!!!
Missouri had a devastating tornado in 1896, tearing down brick buildings across St. Louis. Another in the mid 1920's KILLING 695 people, calling it the tri-state. Another in 1959, tearing up news stations and the arena of St. Louis. Now, 1 in Jopolin Missouri killing 144 people. So, where is your 1999 OK tornado the last one? How did you come up with this?
Any of you assholes trying to prove this guy wrong is a dick. He's correct, it is the last TRUE F5, before NOAA changed the ratings to the new EF5 scale prior to the 2007 (and almost by irony, an EF5 occurred that year) season. Sure you guys can claim that the Elie, Manitoba tornado was in F5, but it was in Canada, and their people used the original Fujita scale at the time. So all of you saying he's wrong, please, actually cite your sources before putting up your weak, unoriginal argument.
No it is not the last. Who are you to decide that? Missouri has had more f-5's than you apparently knew about. Go fly your kite or something. Where the heck did you hear this was the last. Wow, goofy is true isn't it? Yeeeeeee Hawwwwwwwwww
@3737373738 I am making a distinction be between F5 (Original Fujita Scale) and EF5 from the new enhanced Fujita Scale. At the time I posted the video it appeared that this tornado would be the last F5 ever rated on the original Fujita Scale. I am well aware of the tragic Joplin EF5 tornado as I was in town when it hit.
the nation weather center reported that its path ran through moore, oklahoma.where most of the damage happend AND i was about turn one 2 or 3 days after that day! :D
This was when the tornado was at it's strongest. It was about a mile wide here. When it hit Moore it was about a quarter mile wide and a high level f4. In this video it is a high level f5.
well there has been many f-5 tornados in the u.s that were caught on tape like the greensburg Kansas that was caught on tape to so you are completely wrong
Oddly, there was an F5 tornado after this rated on the original Fujita scale. It was is southern Manitoba. And Canada has not switched over to the new scale.
@AKABFLCHAMP I remember seeing the AWACS on the tarmac on the way into a building to go to an underground stairwell and thinking 'there's millions of dollars about to be blown away!'
@altagato.... for some reason, hearing this guy say "millions of dollars blown away" of taxpayers money comes to no suprise to me. the government pulls that off on a daily basis. i feel bad for all the regular town folk that actually have to come up with the money to replace all of the shit they paid for with their own money.
I lived in OKC when I was little I was five when we moved and that was a few months after the bombing. I sooo glad I don't live there anymore cuz this always happens there. It's unbelievable that wind can do this!
Ugh... This is my town. I was only 3 when it hit, gawwsh... I'm so glad I live in Iowa now, especially after what happened yesterday.. the 30+ tornadoes that touched down in one day. Wow...
If you think that is bad you should hear everything I edited out. Most of the talking was done by my chase partners. If you watch my more recent videos I try to stay quiet so you can hear the natural sounds of the storm.
It is the last US tornado rated F5 on the original Fujita Scale. Two tornadoes have been rated EF-5 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale since then. One Canadian tornado has also been rated F5 post May 3, 1999.
Thats by technicality only. Since the dagage indicators for both scales are virtually the same, and EF5 and an F5 are the same category for scientific purposes. Therefore, this is NOT the last F5.
Thats where I lived! They put the injuried in our gym, and the dead in our cafeteria. But i live in iowa now. I did live in between Bridge Creek Oklahoma, and Blanchard. My mom said this was scary, i was only 3.
i remember the most HORRIFIYING event i had endoured. flat land, no shelter, funnel cloud 5 ^%^$ING YARDS AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i think it was 5 yards but it was a scary event
the barrel over that tornado is still one of the best ever captured on film, incredible weather event, shows the importance of forcasting these things on a longer time frame
greensburg to me, would be the scariest seeing as it was at night. i was in high school during this one and don't remember hearing about it. typical teenager not paying attention to the news. lol. devastating nevertheless. god bless those chasers.
if i were in highschool id be all over that tornado. idk where you went to school but when i was in h.s. kids would be sperming their jeans because of how cool they thought this was
Well considering the f scale is no longer used it's now the E-F scale. as in E-F1 - E-F5, and there was not F6 tornado on the Fujita scale, sorry to say.
I have heard some people considered adding an F6 category after this tornado because of a windspeed measurement. I do know that they are rated by damage rather than windspeed.
I remember watching this tornado in person. I was with my dad who is a tornado chaser. Even though I was only 5 years old at the time, I still remember those deadly and vivid images of the last F5 tornado.
This storm had the highest winds recorded, yes - but remember that those winds were recorded by doppler radar and was above ground. But it wasn't the largest nor particularly the strongest.
Also, this is - in a way - the last ever F5 in the United States as we've switched over to the EF scale, and there has only been one EF5 tornado.
Ok, for one I don't know shit about these things as I live in the middle of the sticks in outback Australia. But I must say I would LOVE to see one of these things for real but an F5 would be way to freaky for me. Great Vid and thanksfor sharing.
u guys are stupid. It is the biggest. Get ur facts straight. The winds were over 300 mph. It was over a mile wide. Do ur homework b 4 u say smthing stupid.
it was not the biggest... Hallam,NE & Mulhall, OK take that crown. This was the STRONGEST ever recorded though. Hopelfully the last one ever with that kind of power.
it was the strongest by wind speeds, which doesnt matter if its an F5 bcuz if tornaod becomes F5, lots of things are going to be obliterated. I say the Tri-State Tornado is the strongest since it traveled 219 miles, with a long duration
You're right dude, the maximum wind speed recorded was 318 miles per hour. Back when the original Fujita Scale was still in use, the maximum wind speed in an F5 tornado was 318 miles per hour. If the winds were any stronger, it could've been classified as an F6. Good comment dude.
"The widest tornado (defined as damage path, not condensation/debris cloud or radar measurements, though no other contenders are known) on record is the Wilber - Hallam, Nebraska tornado during the outbreak of May 22, 2004, with a width of 2.5 miles (4 km) at its peak.
The widest tornado as damaged by actual radar wind measurements was the Mulhall (1999) tornado in northern Oklahoma which occurred during the Oklahoma Tornado Outbreak.
Incredible footage seen here 5/3/99!!! BTW...my good friend who lives WSW of Wichita KS.. he audiotaped me 4 full hours of severe Tstorms with hail, 5'' rain, and tornado warning sirens -- 13 days later..and sent me the awesome audiotapes of the tons of thunder which I just loved to shreds!
