I was a firefighter in that fire for 3 days. i can say that with the oil in the trees and the winds blowing at 25 and 35 miles an hour each day simply cutting a plow didn't work as we did sevral times and setting a new fire was out of the question due to the dryness and the high winds
thats an easy fire to stop. just take some dozers make a control line then burin it out. fight fire with fire do it all the time with project fires in canada
@SM110989 That would not of worked. For as close and fast moving this fire was every time they tried to do something like that the fire was already on top of them. They did get one backfire started but it didnt do anything. But at least its out now!
time to get serious about this embarrassing problem ,we want to conquer space and pretend to be so advanced but live in DISPOSABLE JUNK HOUSES and can't put out a WILD FIRE.
TIME TO BUILD FIREPROOF HOMES they are as cheap as wood and will resist fires, tornadoes hurricanes and more.
and we need a FLEET OF 747size water carrying planes and big water carrying copters placed in all states and put any fire out in HOURS.....
i was there for Spring Vacation for my brothers baseball tournament idk if any you guys heard of it: Mingo Bay High School Baseball Tournament. anyways on the last day me and my dad saw smoke to the south and we were staying at Myrtle Beach Resort and thought that was the start of it after watching the news...
I live at Barefoot landing. Today it was sunny, beautiful, hundreds of golfers and hundreds of sun-bathers. The fires are inland a ways. It was a normal day for most people.
Fuck you, Barefoot landing is a bunch stores you retard, go to hell, normal day? suck my balls cartman style bitch, my girlfriends house burnt down and she is totally normal
it's because of morons like you that we have out control fires like this and people get killed in what is a simple wild fire. u can have an opinion just not your own facts and the fact is that the FDs are a joke and can't put a mild wild fire out and the problem are not the people the problem is the equipment they have that amounts to garden hoses and buckets when compared to the fire they are fighting.
Again all i said to you was since you seem to have all the answer's why dont you join a fire dept and teach them how to do it, since you seem to know how, i am sure they would love to have you teach them. go for it
unions control fire departments and for the most part the less they are able to do the better, this way they can claim they need more people and more money and that equal to more power to them.
it's the government that can solve the problem, if they had the brain or were not so busy funding their friends in the banking industry or the scum in IRAQ or other scam they come up with to do nothing and waist our money
I have to ask do you think all fire is bad because it is not fire is part of nature, maybe we should stop building in places where fire is going to happen and floods and what about building on the ocean waiting for a hurricane.
some will claim that some controlled forest fire is not only important but necessary and i have no problem with that.
but where people live we don't need a fire and should take all precautions to avoid them and to minimize losses if they occur.
we can build in the forest ,on the beach or anywhere in between as long we do it smart, a house can be easily be built to withstand fires, hurricanes , tornadoes or floods without any damage other than cosmetic and without having to evacuate ever.
It appears that is a pine barren type forest. If so then fire is actually benefitial to the forest by keeping the pines dominating, and the cones open from the heat of the fire so new pines can grow in. Unfortunately mega-fires like this one often occur because smaller fires are put out, which leads to a build up of fuel.
and now the development is BARE the cut down most of the dead trees...

Plenty of places to go on vacation. Tonight there are over 70 families in that area that don't have a home to go back to.
