I've heard this live with guitar only, with James's backup singers, with Yo-Yo Ma and, recently, with Carole King harmonizing. I agree with larry1955 -- there is no bad version, although the last two are astounding. Wish I'd been at Tanglewood this year: same song with both Yo-Yo Ma and Carole King; can't get better than that. Thank you for posting; that cello is hauntingly beautiful.

I'd like to know something. When does James Taylor sound anything less than perfect.If and when it does happen it's more relative to one not liking a song versus his performance. Those in the know realize this is simply not how it works with musical artists. They have nights their voice is raggy or their instrumentation is lame, or worse yet the arrangement might be awful. James never seems to falter, so it's easy to forget how remarkable he is, and underrated to many. Of course we know better
