John Wayne was always my favorite , and although I did watch the reruns of Gun Smoke, I'll admit it wasn't my favorite . I love to watch the old westerns and have found a n interest in the old series . Always wished the Duke was a regular on the series. Thanks for posting this clip.
John Wayne is introducing you to Heaven much like he did in this video. While I wasn't alive during Gunsmoke's primetime run, I did watch re-runs as a kid with my dad, who was a fan of the show when he was a child. Thanks for being a childhood hero to my dad and myself, in addition to the many other millions of kids/grown adults who grew up watching Matt Dillon save the day on Gunsmoke.
This was the year I was born, so much has changed since....it makes me sad to see television then compared to now. In 1961 we still had a prayer before class and stood to pledge the flag. We had a sense of decency and pride in our society and country then. I feel sorry for my Grand kids the school they go to is a mess, no respect for the teachers and the teachers have no respect for the parents or any moral authority. Anything goes now a days to our own undoing.
The show wasn't realistic or Godly. The most realistic western ever was Little House. Back when they were filming thi show, the seeds for our destruction were just beginning to bloom. Those seeds had been planted in the 19th Century when the Western Church started to abandon the Gospel for the Enlightenment.
I grew up watching John Wayne, he was my dad's favorite. I loved "True Grit" and "Big Jake." "Big Jake" is my #1 fave of his. It's been so long since I've seen it. Have to see if I can rent it somewhere. I loved that movie! I love "Gunsmoke" too. :) It's good to remember some things, isn't it? :0)
"I've always followed my father's advice: he told me, first to always keep my word and, second, to never insult anybody unintentionally. If I insult you, you can be goddamn sure I intend to. And, third, he told me not to go around looking for trouble."
@ColJimQ Agreed. This country is going down the crapper. But hopefully the Tea Party revolution will slap some sense into our nation.
I still can't believe that this idiot is occupying the White House. But when you think about it it's not that surprising with what our culture has become in the last 2 decades. Illegals, tattoos, Muslims, abortions, public drunkenness, criminal rights, welfare "credit cards", and on and on and on.

Great art or primetime TV doesn't have to be 'godly,' you fucking idiots. . .

Thanks. No one can claim that our nation has been headed in the right direction.

@ColJimQ I wonder if schools even have 'assemblies' anymore, and if they do, what takes place? Anything intellectual?
Juliaflo 1 year ago
@Juliaflo Some of the schools now teach elementary children to pray to allah and have visits to local mosques.

@ColJimQ Somehow I don't believe that, seeing as how we have that separation of church and state thing.

This little clip brought back many good memories from an age when things were more simple, and Godly.
Thanks ColJim /5*

Best it would have been hell to pay if a Muslim had been running for President in John Wayne's day.

This is great footage. It sure was a simpler time in those days. Even in my young days in the sixties. Thanks for posting this.
