  • what sticks you using?

  • Sup again coltraine. One question man. Whats the best quality camera to record your drum play on? By the way, awesome drums fills. Thanx for the teachin f

  • @6Hendrik I would play it RLLKLKKRLKKRLKK

  • love it !

  • nice stuff here this has been favorited

  • yeah, you are a natural teacher!

  • Good Stuff

  • great vid man, way to add tasty stuff to old standby licks

For those who didn't catch it the sticking is

    RLLKRKKRLKKRLKK

The only thing that might throw some people off is that the lick is 15 notes long making it 1 16th note short of a one bar fill. to make it simpler add another R onto those doubles

    making it

    RLLKRKKRLKKRLRKK

  • this is confusing because half the time when you hit your bass drum it sounds like a snare is also being hit, just the sharpness of your snare drum i guess. Good video though.

  • thats true

  • I watched this video like a year ago and I now use this lick all the time. Check out my lessons if you get time man.

    much appreciated

    sam

  • looks like a piccilo snare kinda.

  • 2:00

  • i just like it when your jammin. thats my favorite parts in your videos.

  • Colby, could you give a tutorial on some of those tricky hi hat/snare combos? i.e. 2:15? Sweet licks on the vids- thx for posting!

  • Hey do u use these same sabian cymbal and hihat for ur new videos with the keep it simple songs? plz reply i just need to kno that, dont mean to bother u or anything...

  • what hats are you using i love how they sound

  • Hey Coltraine.. Dude.. your hi hat and floor tom sound almost the same in the beginning.lol

  • hey bro, i was wondering....what kind of snare is that? and what kind of remo heads are those. it sounds nice.

  • I borrowed the drum...I wish I knew...it was very heavy, I remember that. The heads were probably some up-scale orchestral types.

  • The head definitely looks like that of the remo powerstroke series, most likely a powerstroke 3

  • Wrong!! :) It's a Remo Renaissance head. Not very popular, it's a smoky looking head with a yellow tint. They sound great though.

  • @coltrain210 Isn't that one of those frosted translucent style ambassador batter heads? Just a guess, I don't really feel like looking into it. ha

  • looks like a pearl 'free-floating' snare

    another nice fill btw

  • @timnoogen remo pinstripes might help ya

  • very nice man thx

  • Thanks for sharing, but i'd need the stickings written out. I had a hard time following between the playing & listening at the same time.

  • Congratulations...

    Good fills and good teacher...

  • is the hh aax?

  • i like your snare. its pretty tight :D

  • I like how you play your fills and licks. Can you post more videos on licks and fills!! and make them gospel/funk/groove like what you doing now.

  • Colby...this fill is EXACTLY what I was looking for man! Keep up the drumming and please keep posting new stuff :)

  • at 3:48 it just get ridiculous

could you post a video of your foot at regular speed and then slow-mo? pretty please?

  • Ha. I will try. I have been renting the camera from the local school library so, hopefully soon. Thanks for the kind words.

  • @coltrain210

Yeah you have a fast right foot. I thought mine was decent but I think I've started to become lazy since focusing on double bass.

  • Why are you so concerned about feet speed? It just comes natural

  • since when was the 70's cheesy dumbrain the beats laid down at that time were heavier than anything i seen here ?

  • Sorry to offend you. What I meant was that, things being done then by the big artists, are being copied by musicians now at much younger ages. People now are progressing faster. What was progressive then, is being done by lots of people who are not the top tier players these days. It is actually a good thing. Music, especially drumming in the past 5 years, has moved forward significantly.

  • can you explain that better please

  • dude ne one that says learn to teach like in that other vid i watched stfu, dont shut comments let us shut them up, your awesome, ive learnt a lot!!!!!!!!! for those that cant play...teach......flip that around good stuff man thanks a bunch

  • can you make a video showing the sort of grooves you do between 2:00 and 2:20??

  • Nice one bruv!

    You got some cool licks!

  • thats a tight lick

  • mann im sorry liek i think youre a great pleayer and stuff but as a teacher youre kinda complicated lol.. i get frustrated cause i dont get what youre saying...

  • lol, you like that pattern dont you?

  • i hate that snare.. i have the same 1 though(only 50 bucks!)

  • dude seriously..too much haha you are sick man keep the videos comin really solid stuff

  • your kit sounds awesome

  • Are you using the heel toe technique?

  • No- I made a mistake in another post by saying yes, but I am actually doing something different. I basically designate two parts to the pedel...1-the middle 2-the spot right below where the chain is. I hit the middle once then lifting the foot as little as possible I almost slide it to point 2.

  • Is it 2 pedal??

  • no- just one

  • nicely done man but try to keap your arm in a v shape with a flat wrist

  • pretty cool man!! haha whats up with the floor tom.. its reaally low.

  • Excellent tutorial videoon this revised technique

  • dude im in my late 20's and I can't play that stuff

  • This is very helpful! I have leaned gospel drumming on youtube and gospelchops, but your videos have probably been the most helpful. I'm a white drummer that plays in a black church in DC, but I don't have anyone to teach me. You're awesome! Post more! PS the spoons video is ti-zight.

  • Haha. Thanks man. I just moved to Nashville from PA, so it might be some time until the next post, but thanks for the positive feedback.

  • How long have you been playing the drums?

  • nice floor tom hahahahah naa that was ok but you kept stopping :S and none of it realy made sence

  • actually i play some funk and latins tuff...and just new to gospel..i watched some drumemrs like...tony royster, aron spears, teddy campbell, gerald heyward...etc...many of them use a lot of linear patterns..and also many doubles with feet..and single and double paradiddles..anyway..i'm not sure!!anyway..thnx for this pattern..i use it a lot now..it has a sound like dennis chambers or tony rosyter..!!!awesome

  • very nice one!!!

  • man i like your style, and i'm really digging that gospel stuff, i'm no black man, i'm white 17yrs old bpy, i really wondering bout that gospel stuff, its useful in everywhere!! Write us down more secrets... ;) or PM Thanks.

  • hey man nice vids...question bout this lick...so...the sticking is rllfrffrlffrlff...plus an extra R or L at the end to bring it back to one? so RLLFRFFRLFFRLFF(L)

    1e&a2e&a3e&a4e&(a)

that right? wanna make sure iam picking up what your laying down.. ty's for vids..keep it up

  • Yes. You are right. To brng it back into the 1 it is rllfrffrlffrlfflf...now that last note, the foot, is the one, and I would recommend either a crash or you could also give a huge accent on the rimshot which is always funky. Thanks for watching.
