This is a perfect example of how religious fervor has a direct correlation with political and social ignorance. Somehow I doubt the portly white women in the car would support a "bow to Allah" billboard. It's amazing how the United States can maintain dominance while it's rank and file citizens are among the modern world's most ignorant.
@TheRainMustFall It's not amazing at all. For a government to rule with the power the US government has on its people (I live here, btw), you have to rely on their ignorance and under-education. But it's not everybody and our (free thinkers) numbers are growing. I think things will get better... eventually.
All religions are crap, everyone that believe in god is an idiot. Are you offended by that statement? Tough shit, get used to it, it's going to get a lot worse. People like me are sick of this religious crap, especially from those retarded creationists, aka cretards.
Maybe there is a God, or maybe there isn,t. Why do we need religion? If we think for ourselves we are capable of arriving at the what is good for all of humanity. Religion is man made.
I can testify about how political churches kill free speech because on Nov. 14, 2011 I was fired by St. Vincent DePaul in Saint Petersburg, Florida for my newspaper article about my YouTube video. See me admit this in the video called "What Women Want is Worship".
After all, don't Catholic churches pray to Mary? And look what the feminist movement has done to families in America. Most men are now either henpecked or homosexual. And few women are feminine now days. Can I get an Amen?
If your offended by anothers point of view, then you're dogmatic right? Pro religious advertising is common and ok. Asking to consider a world where choices are made independent of religious dogma is not ok. And we wonder why the world is so screwy.
If someone worships a pile of dog shit as their god they are more than free enough to do so in this country. Heck I would die fighting to defend their right to do so. But my freedom of speech right also allows me to publicly state I think worshiping a pile of dog shit as some kind of stinky god is stupid. We insult each other all the time, but when it comes to insulting someone's belief why is that off limits?
Being a Christian, myself, I would have to agree. If someone disagrees with my religion then I have no problem. If someone insults my beliefs, I have no problem either. It's not like their insults will change my beliefs or alter them in any way. It's just silly to be offended by words.
Funny how some people are happy to support freedom of speach when it's THEIR speach. But whent' someone else disagrees with them and expressess their view - that's too far!
The ones that are offended are the ones with the problem. The christians just whine and whine like little children. Watch for many more of these billboards to go up. Already I see them on buses in Canada and have seen some in the US and they are increasing. You christians out there better rethink yourselves. Eliminating free speech is what got Hitler started.
...And so does atheism when you low life hypocrites want to eliminate the word "God" from the pledge of allegiance even though 80% of us believe in a higher power such as that. If America is too conservative for you, then just immigrate to Europe or Canada if you hate it so much here. As a Pacific Islander, I came to the U.S since I didn't agree with some norms from my own country. So, if you people feel the same way about the United States, then just do us a favor by leaving and going away!
@IcedCoffee81 The word God was ADDED to the pledge of allegiance in 1953 due to people being scared of communism. In God We Trust wasn't put on paper money until 1956. Christianity was never what this country was based on. There was ALWAYS a separation of church and state. What do you think our forefathers were getting away from? A king that was "appointed" by god. So like you, the forefathers of this country left THEIR country because they didn't like the norms.
I'm ashamed to be living in Rancho Cuamonga after watching this. That billboard was located on Foothill and Archibald, just south of famous musician/atheist Frank Zappa's first recording studio (now a hair salon).
Someone needs to learn what free speech is. That billboard is advertising space. The space was contracted and paid for. The owner of the billboard received a large number of complaints and took down the advertising and REFUNDED the advertiser's money. No one's free speech has been trampled here. You have a right to free speech. You do not have a right to advertising. You have the right to speak, but you do not have a right to be listened to.
@qawamity You don't understand the problem here. No religious sign would have been taken down due to any "outrage." The groups are protected by equality laws EVEN in advertising. Nobody has a right to take away RIGHTFULLY purchased advertising space, and they certainly shouldn't have to have it taken away due to hateful calls and death threats.
Imagine if nobody but Christians could put up a message without being harassed into silence. Is that really free speech to you?
@DeadlyChinchilla People have the right to protest, it's part of free speech. The owners of the billboard refunded the money to the group. This is exactly the kind of pressure any protest group uses. "We find X objectionable, and will refuse to do business with you if you continue to do business with the people behind X." Replace X with slavery and suddenly it doesn't sound like a free speech issue, does it? The advertising space was purchased LAWFULLY, no one has a RIGHT to advertising.
@qawamity We're not talking about a protest. They're free to stage a protest under the billboard with badly spelled signs all they like. And how is slavery even relevant to the issue of free speech and fair advertising laws?
Do you not understand the word "law?" There are laws guaranteeing equality in advertising. ANYONE, literally, can put up something if they abide by the rules of the advertising agency (no nudity, cursing, what have you). But the agencies cannot pick and choose.
@DeadlyChinchilla Slavery itself is not relevant, the equation is. Maybe you need to study what free speech is. Free speech is having the freedom to say what you want, it does not mean you can force people to make business decisions to support or disseminate your message. Free speech applies to your message, it does not give you a legal right to force others to spread it for you. That's closer to extortion. And advertising agencies can, will, and do choose who they do business with.
@qawamity So you make an irrelevant analogy, get called on it, then its the "equation" of slavery that matters... and you're telling ME to study more? Please.
I'm talking about advertising law, which includes billboards. Operating advertising businesses aren't fighting against these rules last I checked, and the rules are there to make sure messages are not unfairly silenced, as they were with this atheist board. Your ranting about slavery and insulting my intelligence does not change that
@DeadlyChinchilla Fine, replace "slavery" in the equation with "potatoes", ok? Are you really that obtuse? The equation isn't about slavery AT ALL. No one has the legal right to force someone to do business with them, that includes advertising.
So, please, tell me what laws there are that force a business to sell advertising space to people. Show it to me. Give me a link. I want to see this.
@qawamity Lol! Geez, you really don't get it, do you. There are laws on the books, have been for a long time, that determine that groups cannot be "excluded" from making legal purchase of advertising space, be it a commercial or a billboard. The companies cannot legally refuse a valid submission based on being a minority group/message so long as they adhere to the standard. You can google these for yourself, I'm not going to spoon feed them to you. Educate yourself why they exist, THEN whine.
@DeadlyChinchilla Who's whining? Oh, that would be the atheist group. Just to humor you, I just did a little Google search for "advertising protected speech" and found NOTHING stating that advertising space must be sold to anyone. So, how about you do some research and tell me what you find?
@qawamity You made one google search, and you searched for the wrong thing, and you expect me to be impressed? Its advertising LAW I'm talking about, not protected speech. Do try and initiate a few more brain cells and put out a little more effort than that.
And I'm not talking about "atheist" groups, I'm talking about ALL minorities. Companies cannot refuse advertisements because they don't fit some majority model or opinion.
When you've actually done some real research, let me know.
@DeadlyChinchilla So, protected speech isn't part of the fucking law now? When did this happen? Show me some damn links if you want to convince me, or shut the fuck up. Is that a difficult concept for you?
Prove me wrong and I'll say I'm wrong. But don't just sit there and scream "NUH-UH!" at me.
@qawamity You're obviously not interested in having a real conversation, evidenced by your IGNORING things that are inconvenient for your opinion. I've already explained I'm talking advertising law, not protected speech. I've already told you what to google to research it, and you didn't do even that much. You've been proven wrong, so now you curse and flail about like a child in the hopes I won't notice the attempt at distraction. Sorry, but I can't even say "nice try." You're clearly done
@DeadlyChinchilla Once again, show me I'm wrong, give me some links. You had an hour and a half, between my last post and your most recent to find something. I'm serious here. Show me how I'm wrong. Not just say I'm wrong, show me.
And, no, you haven't proven me wrong. All you've done is say I'm wrong, and backed it up with nothing. I made an effort to find what you say is there, and found nothing. You either haven't made that effort or did and also found nothing. What am I to believe?
@qawamity You've made it clear you'll believe whatever you like, and not bother to do more than one flawed google search in your effort to *appear* interested in the facts.
I've told you how to find the info, and I've told you I won't spoon feed it to you like a baby. Make a real effort, or don't bother commenting again. I won't either, until you've demonstrated an actual desire to understand what you're talking about, including the difference between free speech and advertising law.
@DeadlyChinchilla Why is it I keep asking you for links and you provide me with nothing. If you prove me wrong and I don't admit it, does it not prove the factuality of your claims not just about the legality of the situation, but also about me?
So far the closest you have made to an intelligent argument is that there are laws that state that companies cannot refuse to do business with people/organizations because of race, creed, sexuality (depending a lot on local laws on that one), etc. That does NOT mean that a seller of advertising space cannot refuse business for other reasons.
Christians should put the sign back up and support no religion..And build a teach a relationship of what we have..Religion is of the AntiChrist..The AntiChrist will be ok with all religions,But Not of Christians cause we are a Holy People seperate from the rest and not willing to accept false Gods and idols,AntiChrist will say he is the God and all religions lead to him so they are ok..He will teach believe in all religions that all your Gods lead to me,That leave Christians out..Seek Jesus Now
@GemTech2012 Christianity is a religion like all the rest. Pretending your cult is "special" does not change it being EXACTLY the same as every other religion, which makes the same empty claims of being "the True path."
We need more of your Jesus and Christianity to solve lifes problems like we need to be shot in our feet to make us run faster.
Christians should have been for that sign as much as atheist..problem is most Christians are clueless and know very little about the God we serve...Jesus warned us against religion..Christians are not a Religion..Religion is everything outside of a relationship with your father vreator Jesus Christ..Christians..get to know your God..Jesus is a personal relationship,We have that in our God.Religion is everything else..Our Father i heaven is family,we know him, feel him love him,He is Real.
@Culturalheathen No, actually you do need to be a mindslave to be religious! A religious person is impelled to look at the world through the filter of their religious dogma and so in effect are mindslave to that dogma. Just as the point of this will be filtered out by your silly religious dogma! This is precisely the reason religious (even "moderates") people are aptly called mindslaves.
@personEks Just like your dogma will filter out my response. ;) I've made my own personal religion, dude. It changes all the time and I critique it objectively. It's essentially my outlook on things and there's no separation because my beliefs are personal and mutable. Just like how someone's philosophies will change over time so do my beliefs. So shove your 'dogma' back down your throat.
I also like how I didn't say I was religious... I could have been atheist and you would've looked silly.
@personEks In general terms (funny enough) an existentialist, pantheistic pagan druidry loosely focused on nature, creativity, and a degree of socio-anarchism, with inspiration from Celtic and Viking history and mythology.
If that can't be up there then neither should religious billboards.
People, what is it doing to your faith? What are you afraid of? If you want to keep praying and worshiping a God, freedom of speech isn't doing anything to stop you. You have the freedom to believe what you want. Stop trying to change things just to suit your religious insecurity.
@IsolationInstigation Those are the ones that don't have faith. The ones that were born into the religion but don't practice it or fear God. No God fearing person would commit such crimes because the ones that do they let the devil overpower them that is why there is violence in the name of religion, and people who are Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist, Hindu, but still they are greedy. Who killed Gandhi? A Hindu radical. People are evil period, look at communism and their atheists.
@MobHeataEnt And your point is what? There are plenty of countries that do fine without a high religious population. Is it the devil you`re afraid of? Or just the unavoidable evil of humankind? Cuz I assure you, some people will do evil things, no matter what you make them believe, or fear, or worship. What then has religion done for them?
I have a question. Would you kill a man if you knew there was no God? Do you base your entire moral structure on religion? Are you helpless without it?
@IsolationInstigation That is what I just said, people will be evil even with religion because its people themselves that do evil not the religion so stop saying religion is the cause of wars and corruption. That is why I brought up communism.
@IsolationInstigation That all depends on what the situation is for me to commit murder, for my family of course. Would I rape? With or Without religion, NO! Would I steal, sure, Would I be an adulterer, yes. You talk about morals only because you are familiar to it, because religion introduced morals. Before any organized religion, there was no morals. Place yourself in that time period. You would even see incest as a common thing.
@MobHeataEnt Religion did NOT introduce morals. I can only think of 4 things from the Ten Commandments that are even valid in todays society. Thou shall not murder, thou shall not steal, thou shall honor thy father and mother(and thats not always a good thing) and no adultery. The other 6 cant work in a free society. And I would argue that there is far less morality in the Old Testament than you claim. There are absolutely horrific acts carried out for trivial crimes.
@MobHeataEnt Also, Rape is condoned in the Old Testament. Lol, I find it funny that you stated that morals came from religion yet you know you would never commit it if God wasnt real. Thats a tad strange. I know I would never do it, because I know what damage that would do to my life, and the life of the woman etc... Not because a God(who often doesnt) told me its a terrible thing. I know what it does to people. The only way I would kill is in self defense, and under extreme circumstances.
@IsolationInstigation Please reread what I have said before making judgements. I said I would commit murder to protect my family. I said "Would I rape? With or Without religion, NO!" entiende mendes? or should I repeat that in English for you. BTW don't assume that I am Christian, and yes the Old Testament says that.
@MobHeataEnt What you said made perfect sense to me, with religion you would not rape, and without religion you still, would not rape, but my curiosity stemmed from how you stated that morality came from religion. If in your world morality was a product of religion, and religion didn't exist, how do you know you wouldn't rape? How do you know you'd consider it wrong if it wasn't there is what I'm asking. I'm curious to know your answer to this.
@IsolationInstigation B4 religion there was incest, before religion woman had no rights, before religion people would have be sold and traded like they buy apples from the farmer's market. Everything you know about morals, religion introduced. I wouldn't right, and neither would you because we are not from that time period so we don't have a say so. If you say which came first morals or religion, then why by even after A.D. the Romans still practiced incest and Arabs buried kids alive. Islam!
And you`re essentially claiming that every man and woman in Rome practiced incest. And that every Arab buried children alive? Now I`m having a hard time understanding what you`re even trying to say, please write a bit clearer.
I don`t know what such a broad generalization is supposed to offer.
Also, if you`re not going to answer my prior questions then what point is there in talking to you? Maybe I`ll reply if you stop ignoring my inquiry.
@IsolationInstigation Organized religion of course. No not every man and woman practiced it, but it was not a taboo thing like it is today. Please stop being so liberal and sensitive, when someone makes statements like that it means "generally." Sociology teachers don't say most, or many. Like saying, Black and Latino kids problem with early pregnancy. You don't always say, hey your generalizing. It just means its a big issue and common. Just like in Rome and Arabia. It was a common thing!
@MobHeataEnt Did you even read the bible? It promotes incest and slavery. Following it will take away many women's rights. And talking about morals. You just called me, Indian Americans, Chinese, or people from Alaskan or Siberian tribes immoral! Do you want to take it back?!
@MobHeataEnt Actually there are more Christians in this country than any other faith so all of those things you list (High Suicides rates, High Murder rates, High Rape rates, Slavery, Incest, etc.) can be attributed to a majority of Christians.
@DannySinfield 1) “For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass the law until all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:18-19 RSV)
@DannySinfield Clearly the Old Testament is to be abided by until the end of human existence itself. None other then Jesus said so.
2) All of the vicious Old Testament laws will be binding forever. "It is easier for Heaven and Earth to pass away than for the smallest part of the letter of the law to become invalid." (Luke 16:17 NAB)
@DannySinfield 3) Jesus strongly approves of the law and the prophets. He hasn’t the slightest objection to the cruelties of the Old Testament. "Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest part or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place." (Matthew 5:17 NAB)
@DannySinfield 3b) "All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for refutation, for correction, and for training in righteousness..." (2 Timothy 3:16 NAB)
3c) "Know this first of all, that there is no prophecy of scripture that is a matter of personal interpretation, for no prophecy ever came through human will; but rather human beings moved by the holy Spirit spoke under the influence of God." (2 Peter 20-21 NAB)
@DannySinfield 4) Jesus criticizes the Jews for not killing their disobedient children according to Old Testament law. Mark.7:9-13 "Whoever curses father or mother shall die" (Mark 7:10 NAB)
5) Jesus is criticized by the Pharisees for not washing his hands before eating. He defends himself by attacking them for not killing disobedient children according to the commandment: “He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.” (Matthew 15:4-7)
@DannySinfield 6) Jesus has a punishment even worse than his father concerning adultery: God said the act of adultery was punishable by death. Jesus says looking with lust is the same thing and you should gouge your eye out, better a part, than the whole. The punishment under Jesus is an eternity in Hell. (Matthew 5:27)
@DannySinfield 7) Peter says that all slaves should “be subject to [their] masters with all fear,” to the bad and cruel as well as the “good and gentle.” This is merely an echo of the same slavery commands in the Old Testament. 1 Peter 2:18
8) “Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law" (John7:19) and “For the law was given by Moses,..." (John 1:17).
9) “...the scripture cannot be broken.” --Jesus Christ, John 10:35
Jesus says that those who have been less fortunate in this life will have it even worse in the life to come. Mark 4:25
Jesus sends the devils into 2000 pigs, causing them to jump off a cliff and be drowned in the sea. Clearly Jesus could have simply sent the devils out, yet he chose instead to place them into pigs and kill
@DannySinfield Jesus kills a fig tree for not bearing figs, even though it was out of season. Jesus must not be as smart as Christians would have us believe, for he was retarded enough to do something this silly. You’d think the son of god (god incarnate) would know that trees don’t bear fruit in dry season. Mark 11:13
Jesus is criticized by the Pharisees for not washing his hands before eating. He defends himself by attacking them for not killing disobedient children according to the commandment: “He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.” Matthew 15:4-7
@DannySinfield Abandon your wife and children for Jesus and he’ll give your a big reward. Jesus asks that his followers abandon their children to follow him. To leave your child is abuse, it’s called neglect, pure and simple. Matthew 19:29
Jesus criticizes the Jews for not killing their disobedient children according to Old Testament law. Mark 7:9
Jesus says he is the only way to salvation yet he purposely disillusions us so that we will go to hell:
Jesus explains that the reason he speaks in parables is so that no one will understand him, “lest . . . they . . . should understand . . . and should be converted, and I should heal them.” Matthew 13:10-15
Jesus explains why he speaks in parables to confuse people so they will go to hell. Mark 4:11-12
The beast and the false prophet are cast alive into a lake of fire. The rest of us the unchosen will be killed with the sword of Jesus. “An all the fowls were filled with their flesh.” Revelations 19:20-21
Jesus condemns entire cities to dreadful deaths and to the eternal torment of hell because they didn’t care for his preaching. Matthew 11:20
Jesus, whose clothes are dipped in blood, has a sharp sword sticking out of his mouth. Thus attired, he treads the winepress of the wrath of God. (The winepress is the actual press that humans shall be put into so that we may be ground up.) Revelations 19:13-15
I'm offended that Christians believe that their God is love, deaths in the #Bible: #God- 2,270,365+ #Satan- 10 (So much love the Christian God shows in the bible)
@nolobede Often, the questions are worded so that someone who isn't reading carefully enough will make a vote that they didn't intend to. This tactic has been harnessed to make trolls look like they're winning by large margins on their opponent's territory; i.e., atheists suddenly becoming creationists.
I'm sure this has been said numerous times but to all the moronic twits in the video clip who were pissing and moaning about how the billboard offended them:
My Constitutional right to freedom of expression is superior to your non-existent right to be free from offense.
If you want to be free from offense weld yourself into a box and have it dropped into the deepest part of the Atlantic Ocean.
Ironically, this would also end my offense at your arrogance and stupidity so it's a win-win!
@captwasabi True, there will always be numerous exceptions in any population, But to be very general, knowledge tends to encourage curiosity, usually these people attempt to search for answers based on facts and reality. They may still have a lingering sence of spirituality but likely won't accept that holy books have any answers, just stories of morality. Personaly I'm an athiest, I don't hate those that belive in god just the ones that make it their mission plaster the world with their faith.
@55metalmonkey IT funny. I used to list myself as an atheist too until I just saw a clip from Sam Harris on the topic. I didn't get a change to watch it all but essentially he was saying that if you're not a racist do you identify yourself as an "aracist"? Then why would you identify yourself as an "atheist"?
As for your points, I guess you're just not as jaded as I am.
@captwasabi Unfortunately the world loves lables for everything and we are stuck with atheist, never understood it myself. As for being jaded, I used to be, I took almost every opportunity to bash the bible thumpers and put them in their place, but I realized that I didn't hate the ones who kept it to themselves and don't offer unsolicited opinions... I just hated the general ignorance that all religions encourage and the blind faith fanatics/fundimentalists that can't seem to ever STFU.
WOW! The chick at 1:42 saying that it is offensive to anyone with religious view is ignorant. And then she draws parallels to the "Yes/No on Prop 8" thing for gay marriage, reinforcing that THAT is religiously motivated. Good lord.
i agree that religion does kill free speech. I am a christian i do not mind gays, or other religions. and my church members will never know that cause i want to save myself the lecture that if i dont repent i will go to hell. Man i am so ashamed of the crazy christians out there, making good christians look bad
I don't have atheists comin round knockin on my door. I have christians and JW. I dont have atheist messages in my face all the time, i have christian messages everywhere confronting me. They are offensive, always searching for another mug to convert to mental nothingness. No doubt about it, the pope needs a lot of followers if the catholic church is to maintain its gross heirachy. We need balance, one atheist sign for every church sign.
It is out of fear they are religious in the first place.
It is out of fear that they whine when their baseless beliefs are questioned.
It is out of the realization of mortality that they live their lives in willful denial of that which deep down, to the core of whatever rationality they have available, that there is no god, no heaven, no hell, no life after death.
Imagine no religion, and the ability to live your life unencumbered by baseless fear.
@nolobede Shut up, Atheism is created out of a guilt of having to face someone for all your wrong doings. You sin and feel bad about it, but become an atheist so you don't have to feel bad abou it.
You are so confused, and isn't it ironic that you state that we become atheist so we won't feel bad about our "doings"? Hahaha, oh, the hypocrisy in that one. Instead maybe we should make up some story about a sky daddy who sends himself to earth to be killed, and then rise from the dead to be with himself, meanwhile claiming that all your "wrong doings" wont count and you won't have to feel bad about them.
... and let us not forget that the VAST majority of violence, murder, war and torture is derived directly from religion... THAT is documented historical fact.
Its obvious your response to my post was due to the fact that deep down, you know its correct.
Sad how merely asking someone to imagine something is "offensive". If you thought that religion was a good thing, then having people think about a world without it would be good. If I asked folks to imagine a world without art, history, or sunsets... that would merely make people value those things more. Of course, the religious know that imagining a world without religion somehow doesn't make people value it more.
Funny. Atheists like me give the video thumbs up because it calls attention to the fact that we're here, and gets people thinking. Christians give thumbs up because the billboard was taken down. People who are wondering whether or not to believe in Christianity see the way both sides act. Atheists say "Think!" Christians say: "Don't!"
@ndrthrdr1 WHOA! you managed to commit an unsupported assertion and a hasty generalization fallacy at the same time!! I'm quite impressed... So who clicked thumbs down? Buddhists? This video doesn't show who clicked the buttons or their religious beliefs, so you have absolutely no right to make that statement...
Its not related to Free Speech, its related to advertising capatalism. The billboard got bad reviews so the billboard company decided it was a bad business move. Noone forced them to take it down.
@redbaron998 Please tell me you're joking. You do realize that the FFRF pays a fee to get their billboard up there for a set period of time. How much attention the billboard gets has no effect on how much money the billboard company makes.
I think the big problem is that Athiest are afraid that Christians are going to take away their rights, and Christians and other religious people are afraid that non-believers would rise up and take away their rights by saying that it's not right to have the beliefs they have.
Also the main reason I have a problem with keeping church and state seperate is for the truely religious, the religion guides their whole life. It's like saying seperating bone from marrow.
*sigh* why do Christians continually make themselves look more idiotic... I am a believer but I basically stopped associating myself with them. If that sign was for separation of church and state then I'm in! Even my good friend who is a devout Catholic knows that this was/is not a Christian country...
@pianoboypiano At our founding everyone knew that separation of church and state was a good thing. Even the christians understood and supported secularism. They knew the oppression that their fathers suffered from in Europe from competing religious groups would not happen here because they were all equal and god was UNDER, not ABOVE, the law.
@pianoboypiano By definition: secularism is the separation of church and state. Religion demands dominance in all walks of life and in a secular society, religion is kept under the law. In fact, religions are only tolerated in this country as long as they obey secular laws. For example: Mormonism was not tolerated until they abandoned polygamy/child marriages. Freedom of religion exists as long as the religion obeys secular laws and does not take from the rights of others.
@Pooternackle5 umm. no, it doesn't. maybe some religions try to force their way into the government, but religion in and of itself has had nothing to do with the state. Also, religions have ALWAYS been tolerated in this country... remember "FREEDOM OF RELIGION"?!
@pianoboypiano Name any major religion that has not attempted to influence or commandeer the government. The only one I can name is Jainism.
Religions are only tolerated as long as they do not take away from secular freedoms. That is why mormons were not allowed to practice their beliefs until they abandoned polygamy and child marriages. Freedom of religion does not give religion the ability to get away with criminal activity.
@Pooternackle5 I'm not arguing that. Of course some religious people try to force their beliefs into the system. And don't blame the religion- blame the people... America has to tolerate a religion because of the freedom of religion. But because of the secular laws, if a person commits a crime because of their religious beliefs, he will be tried.....
@pianoboypiano I'm convinced that most people are good and that religion (and other ideologies) can make them evil. For example... I'm sure most of Germany's soldiers during WW2 were moral people, but they were driven to evil deeds by Nazism. Another example would be groups like Al Qaeda. Its not like they were born the evil monsters that they are: their minds have been corrupted by religion. Al Qaeda militants are 100% sure they are doing good deeds, but most of us know they are aren't.
Imagine someone tells you that the Statue of Liberty or the Sydney Opera House were made by chance as some pieces of concrete & iron just haphazardly started to entangle together & after a few years they became these magnificent buildings on their own. That metal started converting into all sorts of cars & airplanes. Even there are no such people as Civil engineers, architects, software, web designers everything is happening on its own. These things only happen in "LOONY TOONS"
@ImagesByDavid Imagine someone tells you that everything and everyone, especially the universe itself, needs to have a creator. Then the same person says that creator just happens to have always been when eveything needs to be created. These things only happen in bullshit.
@ImagesByDavid Lol, he confronts you with a flaw in your logic and you don't address it at all, but just go about your business with totally failed logic.
What if the question was about the grass being green. You show me a blade of grass and say "see told you it's green." Then I respond with "Grass isn't green."
Sometimes it seems like these serious religious people are just pulling the biggest prank ever.
yes...please do imagine a world without religion...a world without the one and only God, the creator. There wouldn't be a world without Him, anyway, but do imagine. I implore. It'd be pretty bad.
@namjah " one and only God, the creator. There wouldn't be a world without Him" that is most likely --- a lie --- but, i digress. you clearly missed the point of this video and the billboard. stop proclaiming your religion and listen. you attack the only thing that is protecting your religion --- freedom of speech
I'm just saying atheist/agnostic billboards in general. Also, the stumbling of another is sin. I'm just saying all will be accounted for. God will see one as righteous if they have faith in the Savior, Jesus Christ; however, he will not totally forget.
Doubting God, and contemplating God is sin. Job, the righteous man, was rebuked and reproved for contemplating what God had allowed happen to him.
The truth is that Jesus Christ is Lord. How sad it will be when you die and then judged by God? An eternity separated from God is the worst punishment. If you actually search with a genuine heart and desire to find the truth, God may grant you grace. Turn from your sin, and admit it that sin is prevalent in your life, and confess that and ask GOd to forgive you through Christ's death and resurrection.
@namjah truth? religion operates on faith therefore you could never know what is true or not. "Jesus Christ is Lord" is an opinion you gain by faith. your religion just like any theory -- it's just speculation. ....truth.....
are you saying what you said is true? Because, from what you said, you're not speaking truth.
The reason why I can say that Jesus Christ is Lord, and say that it is truth, is because of what the Bible has to say about it. The bible is in and of itself evidence for God. Liberal scholarship cannot keep up with all the TRUTH that the Bible contains. Especially after the the discovery of the dead sea scrolls in 1949. Which is ironic.
@mrfwest I'm obviously proving Christ...i dont care for "religion" ... i agree with you that other religions cannot be proven from the dead sea scrolls...but neways... take care and GOd bless.
@namjah If you were born in Egypt 4,000 years ago, you would worship Ra; Greece 2,000 years ago, Apollo: India 500 years ago, Shiva; Tibet 100 years ago, Buddha, and on and on. There have been thousands of religions by thousands of cultures across time and distance. And now yours is right and all the rest were wrong, correct? And you know this, how? And your knowledge is better that the other believers, why? Your book is the word of God and theirs was not? And you have no real evidence. Huh.
@namjah That belief system is so sad. In your view, God didn't even give those people in other places and times a chance at salvation, they all were doomed to eternal hell from the day they were born because they were not exposed to your brand of religion, yet a serial murderer and rapist could spend eternity in heaven as long as he accepts jesus on the day of his execution. And that is how you believe your God treats his children? Sorry, I am proud not to accept that view happily reject it.
@namjah you are a traitor to native people, jesus christ was a homosexual and got an erection with his gang of jewish men, jesus christ went into hell for eternity for betraying yahway. the last place you want to go is heaven because heaven is hell. you need to learn human behavior and knowlege from human history. no your preventing freedom for staying in my area of the world and winging like an infant that can't get a ps3 each day of the week, your pathetic and small minded.
You are literally small-minded...you're poor English is bothersome...and your blaspheming is very disrespectful...even in relation to basic human morality. Look at Europe...overtaken by Muslims and Postmodernism...straying from the Word causes death.
so if atheists and agnostics bitched every time a religious billboard went up would they take it down? of course not.

TheRainMustFall 3 days ago 5
@TheRainMustFall It's not amazing at all. For a government to rule with the power the US government has on its people (I live here, btw), you have to rely on their ignorance and under-education. But it's not everybody and our (free thinkers) numbers are growing. I think things will get better... eventually.

It's just silly to be offended by words.

...And so does atheism when you low life hypocrites want to eliminate the word "God" from the pledge of allegiance even though 80% of us believe in a higher power such as that. If America is too conservative for you, then just immigrate to Europe or Canada if you hate it so much here. As a Pacific Islander, I came to the U.S since I didn't agree with some norms from my own country. So, if you people feel the same way about the United States, then just do us a favor by leaving and going away!
IcedCoffee81 4 months ago
@IcedCoffee81 The word God was ADDED to the pledge of allegiance in 1953 due to people being scared of communism. In God We Trust wasn't put on paper money until 1956. Christianity was never what this country was based on. There was ALWAYS a separation of church and state. What do you think our forefathers were getting away from? A king that was "appointed" by god. So like you, the forefathers of this country left THEIR country because they didn't like the norms.

I'm ashamed to be living in Rancho Cuamonga after watching this. That billboard was located on Foothill and Archibald, just south of famous musician/atheist Frank Zappa's first recording studio (now a hair salon).
austinwood86 4 months ago 3
Someone needs to learn what free speech is. That billboard is advertising space. The space was contracted and paid for. The owner of the billboard received a large number of complaints and took down the advertising and REFUNDED the advertiser's money. No one's free speech has been trampled here. You have a right to free speech. You do not have a right to advertising. You have the right to speak, but you do not have a right to be listened to.
qawamity 5 months ago
@qawamity You don't understand the problem here. No religious sign would have been taken down due to any "outrage." The groups are protected by equality laws EVEN in advertising. Nobody has a right to take away RIGHTFULLY purchased advertising space, and they certainly shouldn't have to have it taken away due to hateful calls and death threats.
Imagine if nobody but Christians could put up a message without being harassed into silence. Is that really free speech to you?
DeadlyChinchilla 4 months ago
@DeadlyChinchilla People have the right to protest, it's part of free speech. The owners of the billboard refunded the money to the group. This is exactly the kind of pressure any protest group uses. "We find X objectionable, and will refuse to do business with you if you continue to do business with the people behind X." Replace X with slavery and suddenly it doesn't sound like a free speech issue, does it? The advertising space was purchased LAWFULLY, no one has a RIGHT to advertising.
qawamity 4 months ago
@qawamity We're not talking about a protest. They're free to stage a protest under the billboard with badly spelled signs all they like. And how is slavery even relevant to the issue of free speech and fair advertising laws?
Do you not understand the word "law?" There are laws guaranteeing equality in advertising. ANYONE, literally, can put up something if they abide by the rules of the advertising agency (no nudity, cursing, what have you). But the agencies cannot pick and choose.
DeadlyChinchilla 4 months ago
@DeadlyChinchilla Slavery itself is not relevant, the equation is. Maybe you need to study what free speech is. Free speech is having the freedom to say what you want, it does not mean you can force people to make business decisions to support or disseminate your message. Free speech applies to your message, it does not give you a legal right to force others to spread it for you. That's closer to extortion. And advertising agencies can, will, and do choose who they do business with.
qawamity 4 months ago
@qawamity So you make an irrelevant analogy, get called on it, then its the "equation" of slavery that matters... and you're telling ME to study more? Please.
I'm talking about advertising law, which includes billboards. Operating advertising businesses aren't fighting against these rules last I checked, and the rules are there to make sure messages are not unfairly silenced, as they were with this atheist board. Your ranting about slavery and insulting my intelligence does not change that
DeadlyChinchilla 4 months ago
@DeadlyChinchilla Fine, replace "slavery" in the equation with "potatoes", ok? Are you really that obtuse? The equation isn't about slavery AT ALL. No one has the legal right to force someone to do business with them, that includes advertising.
So, please, tell me what laws there are that force a business to sell advertising space to people. Show it to me. Give me a link. I want to see this.
qawamity 4 months ago
@qawamity Lol! Geez, you really don't get it, do you. There are laws on the books, have been for a long time, that determine that groups cannot be "excluded" from making legal purchase of advertising space, be it a commercial or a billboard. The companies cannot legally refuse a valid submission based on being a minority group/message so long as they adhere to the standard. You can google these for yourself, I'm not going to spoon feed them to you. Educate yourself why they exist, THEN whine.
DeadlyChinchilla 4 months ago
@DeadlyChinchilla Who's whining? Oh, that would be the atheist group. Just to humor you, I just did a little Google search for "advertising protected speech" and found NOTHING stating that advertising space must be sold to anyone. So, how about you do some research and tell me what you find?
qawamity 4 months ago
@qawamity You made one google search, and you searched for the wrong thing, and you expect me to be impressed? Its advertising LAW I'm talking about, not protected speech. Do try and initiate a few more brain cells and put out a little more effort than that.
And I'm not talking about "atheist" groups, I'm talking about ALL minorities. Companies cannot refuse advertisements because they don't fit some majority model or opinion.
When you've actually done some real research, let me know.
DeadlyChinchilla 4 months ago
@DeadlyChinchilla So, protected speech isn't part of the fucking law now? When did this happen? Show me some damn links if you want to convince me, or shut the fuck up. Is that a difficult concept for you?
Prove me wrong and I'll say I'm wrong. But don't just sit there and scream "NUH-UH!" at me.
qawamity 4 months ago
@qawamity You're obviously not interested in having a real conversation, evidenced by your IGNORING things that are inconvenient for your opinion. I've already explained I'm talking advertising law, not protected speech. I've already told you what to google to research it, and you didn't do even that much. You've been proven wrong, so now you curse and flail about like a child in the hopes I won't notice the attempt at distraction. Sorry, but I can't even say "nice try." You're clearly done
DeadlyChinchilla 4 months ago
@DeadlyChinchilla Once again, show me I'm wrong, give me some links. You had an hour and a half, between my last post and your most recent to find something. I'm serious here. Show me how I'm wrong. Not just say I'm wrong, show me.
And, no, you haven't proven me wrong. All you've done is say I'm wrong, and backed it up with nothing. I made an effort to find what you say is there, and found nothing. You either haven't made that effort or did and also found nothing. What am I to believe?
qawamity 4 months ago
@qawamity You've made it clear you'll believe whatever you like, and not bother to do more than one flawed google search in your effort to *appear* interested in the facts.
I've told you how to find the info, and I've told you I won't spoon feed it to you like a baby. Make a real effort, or don't bother commenting again. I won't either, until you've demonstrated an actual desire to understand what you're talking about, including the difference between free speech and advertising law.
DeadlyChinchilla 4 months ago
@DeadlyChinchilla Why is it I keep asking you for links and you provide me with nothing. If you prove me wrong and I don't admit it, does it not prove the factuality of your claims not just about the legality of the situation, but also about me?
qawamity 4 months ago
So far the closest you have made to an intelligent argument is that there are laws that state that companies cannot refuse to do business with people/organizations because of race, creed, sexuality (depending a lot on local laws on that one), etc. That does NOT mean that a seller of advertising space cannot refuse business for other reasons.
qawamity 4 months ago

Culturalheathen 5 months ago
@Culturalheathen No, actually you do need to be a mindslave to be religious! A religious person is impelled to look at the world through the filter of their religious dogma and so in effect are mindslave to that dogma. Just as the point of this will be filtered out by your silly religious dogma! This is precisely the reason religious (even "moderates") people are aptly called mindslaves.
personEks 5 months ago
@personEks Just like your dogma will filter out my response. ;) I've made my own personal religion, dude. It changes all the time and I critique it objectively. It's essentially my outlook on things and there's no separation because my beliefs are personal and mutable. Just like how someone's philosophies will change over time so do my beliefs. So shove your 'dogma' back down your throat.
I also like how I didn't say I was religious... I could have been atheist and you would've looked silly.

People, what is it doing to your faith? What are you afraid of? If you want to keep praying and worshiping a God, freedom of speech isn't doing anything to stop you. You have the freedom to believe what you want. Stop trying to change things just to suit your religious insecurity.

@MobHeataEnt That shit exists even with religion.
IsolationInstigation 6 months ago
@IsolationInstigation Those are the ones that don't have faith. The ones that were born into the religion but don't practice it or fear God. No God fearing person would commit such crimes because the ones that do they let the devil overpower them that is why there is violence in the name of religion, and people who are Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist, Hindu, but still they are greedy. Who killed Gandhi? A Hindu radical. People are evil period, look at communism and their atheists.
MobHeataEnt 6 months ago
@MobHeataEnt And your point is what? There are plenty of countries that do fine without a high religious population. Is it the devil you`re afraid of? Or just the unavoidable evil of humankind? Cuz I assure you, some people will do evil things, no matter what you make them believe, or fear, or worship. What then has religion done for them?
I have a question. Would you kill a man if you knew there was no God? Do you base your entire moral structure on religion? Are you helpless without it?
IsolationInstigation 6 months ago
@IsolationInstigation That is what I just said, people will be evil even with religion because its people themselves that do evil not the religion so stop saying religion is the cause of wars and corruption. That is why I brought up communism.
MobHeataEnt 5 months ago
@MobHeataEnt ...When did I say Religion caused wars? I mean, it does, and has, but I dont remember mentioning it before you.
IsolationInstigation 5 months ago
@IsolationInstigation That all depends on what the situation is for me to commit murder, for my family of course. Would I rape? With or Without religion, NO! Would I steal, sure, Would I be an adulterer, yes. You talk about morals only because you are familiar to it, because religion introduced morals. Before any organized religion, there was no morals. Place yourself in that time period. You would even see incest as a common thing.
MobHeataEnt 5 months ago
@MobHeataEnt Religion did NOT introduce morals. I can only think of 4 things from the Ten Commandments that are even valid in todays society. Thou shall not murder, thou shall not steal, thou shall honor thy father and mother(and thats not always a good thing) and no adultery. The other 6 cant work in a free society. And I would argue that there is far less morality in the Old Testament than you claim. There are absolutely horrific acts carried out for trivial crimes.
Religion is obsolete now.
IsolationInstigation 5 months ago
@MobHeataEnt Also, Rape is condoned in the Old Testament. Lol, I find it funny that you stated that morals came from religion yet you know you would never commit it if God wasnt real. Thats a tad strange. I know I would never do it, because I know what damage that would do to my life, and the life of the woman etc... Not because a God(who often doesnt) told me its a terrible thing. I know what it does to people. The only way I would kill is in self defense, and under extreme circumstances.
IsolationInstigation 5 months ago
@IsolationInstigation Please reread what I have said before making judgements. I said I would commit murder to protect my family. I said "Would I rape? With or Without religion, NO!" entiende mendes? or should I repeat that in English for you. BTW don't assume that I am Christian, and yes the Old Testament says that.
MobHeataEnt 5 months ago
@MobHeataEnt What you said made perfect sense to me, with religion you would not rape, and without religion you still, would not rape, but my curiosity stemmed from how you stated that morality came from religion. If in your world morality was a product of religion, and religion didn't exist, how do you know you wouldn't rape? How do you know you'd consider it wrong if it wasn't there is what I'm asking. I'm curious to know your answer to this.
Then what faith are you?
IsolationInstigation 5 months ago
@IsolationInstigation B4 religion there was incest, before religion woman had no rights, before religion people would have be sold and traded like they buy apples from the farmer's market. Everything you know about morals, religion introduced. I wouldn't right, and neither would you because we are not from that time period so we don't have a say so. If you say which came first morals or religion, then why by even after A.D. the Romans still practiced incest and Arabs buried kids alive. Islam!
MobHeataEnt 5 months ago
@MobHeataEnt B4 religion? Which religion?
IsolationInstigation 5 months ago
@IsolationInstigation Organized religion of course. No not every man and woman practiced it, but it was not a taboo thing like it is today. Please stop being so liberal and sensitive, when someone makes statements like that it means "generally." Sociology teachers don't say most, or many. Like saying, Black and Latino kids problem with early pregnancy. You don't always say, hey your generalizing. It just means its a big issue and common. Just like in Rome and Arabia. It was a common thing!

“Thou Shall Not Ignore the Old Testament!”
New Testament Verses Which Demand Following the Old Testament
DannySinfield 6 months ago in playlist The Con known as Religion.
DannySinfield 6 months ago in playlist The Con known as Religion.
DannySinfield 6 months ago in playlist The Con known as Religion.
DannySinfield 6 months ago in playlist The Con known as Religion.
DannySinfield 6 months ago in playlist The Con known as Religion.
DannySinfield 6 months ago in playlist The Con known as Religion.
DannySinfield 6 months ago in playlist The Con known as Religion.
DannySinfield 6 months ago in playlist The Con known as Religion.
A few other things about Jesus:
Jesus says that those who have been less fortunate in this life will have it even worse in the life to come. Mark 4:25
Jesus sends the devils into 2000 pigs, causing them to jump off a cliff and be drowned in the sea. Clearly Jesus could have simply sent the devils out, yet he chose instead to place them into pigs and kill
DannySinfield 6 months ago in playlist The Con known as Religion.
@DannySinfield Jesus kills a fig tree for not bearing figs, even though it was out of season. @nolobede Often, the questions are worded so that someone who isn't reading carefully enough will make a vote that they didn't intend to. This tactic has been harnessed to make trolls look like they're winning by large margins on their opponent's territory; i.e., atheists suddenly becoming creationists.
MrRichardKranium 6 months ago
I'm sure this has been said numerous times but to all the moronic twits in the video clip who were pissing and moaning about how the billboard offended them:
My Constitutional right to freedom of expression is superior to your non-existent right to be free from offense.
If you want to be free from offense weld yourself into a box and have it dropped into the deepest part of the Atlantic Ocean.
Ironically, this would also end my offense at your arrogance and stupidity so it's a win-win!

Religion is a virus that affects common sence, the only vaccine is knowledge.
55metalmonkey 6 months ago
@55metalmonkey It would be nice to think that knowledge would easily destroy the religion virus. Sadly this is not so. Case in point:

Successful banker in Buffalo, New York.

55metalmonkey 6 months ago
@55metalmonkey IT funny. I used to list myself as an atheist too until I just saw a clip from Sam Harris on the topic. I didn't get a change to watch it all but essentially he was saying that if you're not a racist do you identify yourself as an "aracist"? Then why would you identify yourself as an "atheist"?
As for your points, I guess you're just not as jaded as I am.
captwasabi 6 months ago

Good lord.

Instead maybe we should make up some story about a sky daddy who sends himself to earth to be killed, and then rise from the dead to be with himself, meanwhile claiming that all your "wrong doings" wont count and you won't have to feel bad about them.
If only hypocrisy were painful.

Buddhists? I think the big problem is that Athiest are afraid that Christians are going to take away their rights, and Christians and other religious people are afraid that non-believers would rise up and take away their rights by saying that it's not right to have the beliefs they have.
Also the main reason I have a problem with keeping church and state seperate is for the truely religious, the religion guides their whole life. It's like saying seperating bone from marrow.
NoraGoth1 8 months ago
*sigh* why do Christians continually make themselves look more idiotic... I am a believer but I basically stopped associating myself with them. If that sign was for separation of church and state then I'm in! Even my good friend who is a devout Catholic knows that this was/is not a Christian country...
pianoboypiano 8 months ago 10
@pianoboypiano At our founding everyone knew that separation of church and state was a good thing. Even the christians understood and supported secularism. They knew the oppression that their fathers suffered from in Europe from competing religious groups would not happen here because they were all equal and god was UNDER, not ABOVE, the law.
Pooternackle5 6 months ago
@Pooternackle5 God has nothing to do with secular law so he is neither above or below it.
pianoboypiano 6 months ago
@pianoboypiano By definition: secularism is the separation of church and state. Religion demands dominance in all walks of life and in a secular society, religion is kept under the law. In fact, religions are only tolerated in this country as long as they obey secular laws. For example: Mormonism was not tolerated until they abandoned polygamy/child marriages. Freedom of religion exists as long as the religion obeys secular laws and does not take from the rights of others.
Pooternackle5 6 months ago
@Pooternackle5 umm. no, it doesn't. maybe some religions try to force their way into the government, but religion in and of itself has had nothing to do with the state. Also, religions have ALWAYS been tolerated in this country... remember "FREEDOM OF RELIGION"?!
pianoboypiano 6 months ago
@pianoboypiano Name any major religion that has not attempted to influence or commandeer the government. The only one I can name is Jainism.
Religions are only tolerated as long as they do not take away from secular freedoms. That is why mormons were not allowed to practice their beliefs until they abandoned polygamy and child marriages. Freedom of religion does not give religion the ability to get away with criminal activity.
Pooternackle5 6 months ago
@Pooternackle5 I'm not arguing that. Of course some religious people try to force their beliefs into the system. And don't blame the religion- blame the people... America has to tolerate a religion because of the freedom of religion. But because of the secular laws, if a person commits a crime because of their religious beliefs, he will be tried.....
pianoboypiano 6 months ago
@pianoboypiano I'm convinced that most people are good and that religion (and other ideologies) can make them evil. For example... I'm sure most of Germany's soldiers during WW2 were moral people, but they were driven to evil deeds by Nazism. Another example would be groups like Al Qaeda. Its not like they were born the evil monsters that they are: their minds have been corrupted by religion. Al Qaeda militants are 100% sure they are doing good deeds, but most of us know they are aren't.

Take care, God Bless.

God be with you.
namjah 9 months ago
@namjah truth? religion operates on faith therefore you could never know what is true or not. "Jesus Christ is Lord" is an opinion you gain by faith. your religion just like any theory -- it's just speculation. ....truth.....
mrfwest 9 months ago
@mrfwest
"...truth..."
are you saying what you said is true? Because, from what you said, you're not speaking truth.
The reason why I can say that Jesus Christ is Lord, and say that it is truth, is because of what the Bible has to say about it. The bible is in and of itself evidence for God. Liberal scholarship cannot keep up with all the TRUTH that the Bible contains. Especially after the the discovery of the dead sea scrolls in 1949. Which is ironic.

There have been thousands of religions by thousands of cultures across time and distance. And now yours is right and all the rest were wrong, correct? And you know this, how? And your knowledge is better that the other believers, why? Your book is the word of God and theirs was not? And you have no real evidence. Huh.
coolgreyoneabby 9 months ago
@coolgreyoneabby
You don't know that I would have worshiped any of these idols even if I were born in each of those places.
God was there and in all those times. All the people that worshiped those idols in those allotted times...went to hell...i wish it wasn't true..
And yes they were wrong, and still are wrong today.
Evidence isn't important. Please search for God, and you will find Him.
Start with the study of the Bible and really try your best to disprove it.
gnite!
