I loved seeing them grow and get pretty. Are both the babies female? It's so hard to tell. I have a 4-year-old single female cockatiel and have been thinking of letting her breed. She's had one infertile clutch so far, and keeps trying to do it again. Congrats on your sweet and healthy birds.
One thing I cannot say about baby birds is that they're cute when they're really young. Sure, after a month they are, but they go through a lot of awkward growth stages very quickly lol
I've read that the male is suppose to help. Mine became more aggressive and we had to separate them. He would peck at her to get out of the box and then would not sit on them. So he's been banned. Lol. She has seed and millet. Someone said to wet wheat bread with milk. She likes spinach leaves. I'm going to get some pellets tomorrow. Pet store sells them for mom to feed babies. Hope she handle it by herself. We work full time and our clutch was a surprise.
my bf used to own 4 cockatiels, he always told me how amazing they are. it never occur to me that i could have one too. but after this video, we decided to have a new pair cockatiels. Now my lovely little two month old snow white is sitting on my shoulder, watching me typing... she's such a sweetie...great job!
my beloved misty boogles a grey 13 year old passed away 1week today. After watching this video the joy of life returned to me. Where i felt my beloved die in my hands i see these beautiful new babies in the world. Ive rarely felt so happy that my eyes tear up. Amazing footage. <3 keep up the good work! :*D
@angelofhope7778 So sad about your bird! I had a Bourke's parakeet that was very attached to me pass away a year ago, so I know how you feel. Thanks for the comment! I'm glad my video cheered you up. Btw, I have a pearl cockatiel named Mitsy which is kinda similar to your bird's name. :)
wow this is the most beautiful cockatiel video on youtube! put aside the cute birds, you did a great job editing the video, frame shots... you should go to hollywood!
i have few questions though:
1- what were u feeding the parents while they sat on the eggs and while feeding the new ones?
2- i can see that youve put them in a nest box which is pretty open to space, mine are (at this very moment)sitting in a nest box which i could never open and take pictures this freely. werent they disturbed?
This is adorable :) im buying a cockatiel in a couple of days, and he's still a baby. Not one that needs to be with his mother, but more like 50-60 days old.
Around a week ago, my parakeet, Flauffy died, and I just have that instinct that I need to take care of an animal. Without him, nothing is there to fill the void.
AMAZING! May I ask a few questions? What camera did you record this? Was it on macro mode? Do your cockatiel parents feed their babies or do you feed them using a syringe ? Thanks!!
Awwwww! I so want a cockatiel now! (A baby) my birds flew away yesterday and I'm really sad :( I left there cage out with food water treats etc. And they may come back but probably not until a long time. I wangted anothe r bird but a different type or the same. I have 2 cages so yeah...I really miss my birds though :(
I just got a mated pair of cockatiels who have had healthy babies in the past. I've had them almost 2 weeks, and the female has alread laid 2 eggs since January 22nd. The eggs have a pinkish hue to them. Does this mean that they are fertilized? I don't have an egg candler, but I thought the pink hue might be a good sign??? Btw, LOVE THE VIDEO!!! The music is awesome! You did an amazing job! :)
@Few70170 Hi, thanks for your comment! :) If it's only been three days since the eggs have been hatched, it's too early to tell whether or not they're fertilized. You can check out this website for reference: avianweb.com/eggtoparrot.html --- But you do not need candling equipment. All you need is a dark room, a bright light and if your light is small enough, you can cup the egg with your thumb & forefinger to concentrate the light into that small area. I hope that helps!
@thegreensnake13 Thanks! It was a racing pigeon my coworker found. The owner later told me that it was probably attacked by a hawk on one of its training runs.
@GoogooEyedChihuahua From what I know, a bird's first clutch usually doesn't always hatch, sometimes b/c they're too young or lack of experience. I'm not sure how long they haven't been sitting on the eggs, or if the eggs are even in a nesting box, or if the eggs are fertilized, but if I were you, I would wait over a week or so and if they don't sit on them, just throw the eggs away. And I wouldn't get an incubator and do feedings on your own b/c that's for experienced breeders. :)
@EmmaHambleton Hehe, birds do not have boobs. Btw, the huge lump around their neck is called a crop which is a muscle that stores and processes food before it goes into their stomach. :)
@guyduran Even if they mate, your cockatiels could possibly be the same gender. :) Depending on the color mutation, it could be difficult to tell what gender your bird is. Also, it depends on their environment. My female cockatiels will only lay eggs when they feel that the environment is safe, there's plenty of food, and if there's a place for them to nest. :)
@celestialdls Hi I think your video is awesome loved it. Can you help as I am puzzled by your version of Wake Up - Arcade Fire, I can't find that version as yours seems to have female vocals and is great. Would appreciate if you could advise?
@JKKulin Thanks for the comment. From 2:44 onward is the last part of the song "Wake Up" by Arcade Fire. The song right before it is from Basement Jaxx "Do Your Thing". I hope that helps!
@xsmiley94 It's called a "crop" which helps process food in a bird goes before it goes into their stomach or gizzard. They can also store food in their crop as well. All birds (I believe) have a crop but you can't really see it on full-grown birds b/c it's covered by their feathers. :) On babies, you can clearly see it!
@pencilpush It's steamed mixed veggies with rice, pellets (which have red pellets in there too), and some organic veggie baby food to help soften the pellets. :)
I remember when our cockatiel babies first learned to fly. They went straight up to the ceiling, across the ceiling, crashed into the wall, and landed behind the television.
Great video, especially your captions. We have 12 (or is it13?) tiels, some of whom were hatched here. We also have two African Gray parrots who live apart from the tiels. Nice job!
OMG most baby creatures i find cute but thems FUGLY. And all the vomitting doesnt make it too appealing lol. of course they are quite beautiful when they finally get some feathers!
Awesome... I have a pair of cockatiels but they are really poor parents and do not "sit" on the eggs. It was really neat of you to give a good egg to the other cockatiel... well done. My birds are out of their cage when we are home (a latina ringneck parrot too). And yes they can be noisy.
@Jevandtieriel My cockatiel is the quietest of our birds. It's the 4 budgies that drive my hubby nuts. I don't even hear them any more. But when I do I usually enjoy their song. But my cockateil only says anything when he wants feeding or out of his cage.
When my daughter and I saw the part where you gave one of the eggs to the older cockatiel we started crying. The video was so cute and sweet. Simply adorable ... then not so adorable then adorable again !
@Eirorinon7 Thanks for the comment! The owner of the injured racing pigeon took the bird the morning after. All I know is that he said he was going to treat her in his little bird hospital at his place. :)
My fav part was eating the veggie mix, smooshie all over their beak haha. I always tried to have a little towel closeby before she tried wiping her beak on me to clean the smooshie off. Of course she LOVED peas, the absolute smooshiest LOL
@Mrhetarded Hey there, leave them on it. If you remove the eggs or take them off, they'll just lay more eggs, and it's stressful for the birds. They'll get off the eggs when they're ready. My cocktatiel once sat on her eggs for about 2 months until she got off of them. :) Depends on the bird though.
@celestialdls@Mrhetarded - Agree with celestialdls, and she'll lay so many eggs that she'll become calcium deficient! An egg could break inside her, due to thin walls, and might cut her insides. Just keep food and water closeby, and try to clean the best you can.
Can anyone tell me if my female can still lay eggs, she is 6 yrs old

My fav part was eating the veggie mix, smooshie all over their beak haha. I always tried to have a little towel closeby before she tried wiping her beak on me to clean the smooshie off. Of course she LOVED peas, the absolute smooshiest LOL

Help! My tiels laid eggs and have been caring for them for 28 days.
I'm almost sure they are not hatching but the parents won't leave the nest.
Someone please tell me what to do.
Thx

@Mrhetarded Hey there, leave them on it. If you remove the eggs or take them off, they'll just lay more eggs, and it's stressful for the birds. They'll get off the eggs when they're ready. My cocktatiel once sat on her eggs for about 2 months until she got off of them. :) Depends on the bird though.

@celestialdls @Mrhetarded - Agree with celestialdls, and she'll lay so many eggs that she'll become calcium deficient! An egg could break inside her, due to thin walls, and might cut her insides. Just keep food and water closeby, and try to clean the best you can.

Great video, thanks! One of the most beautiful moments for me was the one when older baby stretched its wings for the first time!
