  • I like this score. Unfortunately after a certain point some idiot has used some silly pink floyd 'music' as background 'music.' It was the only way I could watch the complete movie in English. Had to turn the sound off because the 'music' was so annoying and didn't fit the movie at all!

  • These guys only had steam. Imagine if they went nuclear?

  • Classic, i seen it in netflix too play it online.

  • @ 3:10. Moloch's hunger has been satisfied.

  • some very occultic symbolism throughout this movie

    Behold, Moloch!

  • silly management. that disaster could have been diverted if they had just installed an automatic relief valve in the first place.

  • @kevinkuei Ha!

  • the machine never stops. it will never stop. it will be still be fuel by the death of others until they perish and then it will get replace again and again.

  • Man, CG was pretty bad in the 1920s...

  • you changed music!!

    you're a vandal -.-

  • @annihilationgrl haha - it isn't called Metropolis RESCORE for nothing...

  • @mrbenjaminspeed dont listen to him surely the original score cant be beaten but your is a worthy an honorable tribute tu metropolis

  • The jazz-singer came out in 27 to, but then it was moslty a gimmick used in musical films.

  • this is the best part. freakin sweet

  • Sadly its all here right now.

  • The template for our times - visuals, ideas, messages.

Most science-fiction films hark back to Metropolis.

  • in Berlin they show now the complete film. This Version was lost for decades.

  • @CapitanoGUC this is the most 'complete version' released right now but they have found the full film in south america and are in the middle of restoring it for some kind of release sometime this year...

  • yes - they did release it right no in Berlin .....

  • I watched it yesterday on german TV...

Great, I saw it for the first time.

    It went like 2:30 Hours.

Unbelievable when I think about that I was born 100 years later after Mr. Lang.

  • soon the will color it and ad voice ..... - just kidding :-D

  • I don't know if its because my name is Moloch, or just because this scene is so amazing, but definitely my favorite scene from the movie! And because Colorado Fire Conclave is doing a Metropolis themed performance at Burning Man, I wanna be the machine! Now how to make a costume personifying this, hrmmmm...

  • @MolochJests how about you have an outer shell that resembles a robot or boiler, that you can shed to be like an Amazon or Egyptian thing with Lion claws and huge teeth? a

and eat gummy bears or sour patch kids for the slaves...i dunno

  • Thats AN AMAZING IDEA!!! Thankyou so much! I would want minotaur horns

  • @MolochJests yeah, it could be like bolt covered block parts that slide off to reveal demonic smoothness...

  • This scene creeps me out every time I watch it.

  • I actually dont find this very cheesy. Something really wonderful about the "living machine." The machine-creature looks art-nouveau and ancient egyptian to me. I love how the machinists move in coordination before the explosion. Lovely. And this music adds so much~! Thank you for doing this~!

  • yes, lots of silent films - even the best ones - have their cheesy moments by today's standards.

  • @mrbenjaminspeed

A good point-- not only were acting standards different in the silent era than in the sound era, we should bear in mind that these actors and the director were a lot closer to Victorian stage conventions, including melodrama and broad characterizations, than we are-- so some of the ways in which the actors moved and reacted will look quaint to us.

  • Sorry, but that's part of the Expressionism Movement of that period, acting, even the make up is exaggerated.

  • Metropolis is mentioned in the book The Parade's Gone By and it indicates that the acting styles even by the standards of silent film were quite over the top.

  • Of course, it's a mute movie. Acting had to transmit what couldn't be told.

  • @Tsubahi most of these actors and directors were also coming from a stage background. theater was all they knew before this "moving pictures" thing came along. and theater does tend to be exaggerated in it's movements.

  • @Tsubahi They were still heavily inspired by theater-acting. It's easier to display emotions in this way, when complex dialogue was unavailable.

  • see, one of the points Lang was trying to make was that the workers were being "fed" into a machine that served no specific purpose.

  • hahahahaaaa the guys falling from really high up, hahahahahaaaaa

  • lmao !

  • When the Moloch came out of the smoke, it scared the crap out of me.

That's what gets me about black and white movies, they feel too real.

  • Deep. An illusion of sacrafice. children and workerbee's.

  • whoa.. sacrificing the children to Moloch..(Molech)... cool

  • and this is the truth right here

  • e pensare che mi vedev questo film da piccola...!!!wow
